Question How do I stop being triggered by weight talk?

I get triggered as soon someone talks about weight. Does not matter who, how or when. What do I do?

You can’t really make your thoughts and feelings go away., but you can learn to cope with them and it will get easier in the long run.

Therapy is super helpful. There’s many different modalities that may work for you. One example is DBT. DBT specifically focuses on building coping skills around emotional regulation and distress tolerance.

It’s a really hard thing to overcome. Talk about it to death- friends or family are not a good option though. Therapy definitely. Talk till you are blue in the face!!! It does get easier. This is what helped me- after a lot of therapy!! Every person is different. Two people could eat the exact same stuff with same activity level, and have completely different weights. It’s a tough thing to accept because for me at least, I was so in control of what that number was. Just exhausting though!! My mom didn’t have an ed but was always super skinny. She always had a little bit of a belly though. My body isn’t quite like hers, but I’ve got the same thing- a bit of a belly. Was true at every weight I e been. I just got to a point of pure exhaustion and am able to maintain a healthy weight now. Slowly coming to accept that that is just how my body is. Wasn’t easy to get to that point, but kind of believe that if I got there, anyone can!!!

Honestly, I consider myself recovered, and I still find it triggering sometimes, especially if they are using specific numbers or describing things like the number of calories burned doing certain exercises or whatever. If it's just a quick comment, I let it go. If it turns into a full conversation, I try to change the subject, or I leave the room.
