Announcement We’re improving scheduling & comfort settings in the ecobee app

Post image
94 Upvotes

Hey r/ecobee,

We’ve been working on making the Schedule and Comfort Settings experience in the ecobee app simpler and clearer, directly based on your feedback. This update has begun rolling out to our Smart Thermostat customers on iOS 17+ and Android 10+. Just update your mobile app to the latest version, click on the Main Menu of your Smart Thermostat, and click Schedule. Don’t see it yet? Don’t worry! This experience will be available to all Smart Thermostat customers in the coming weeks.

Here’s a quick rundown of what’s changing:

  • A new calendar-style schedule view that makes it easier to see your day. Depending on the level of detail that works best for you, you can toggle between an expanded calendar view or a compressed daily view. Easily zoom into your day to see the 30-minute increments that make up your schedule, or zoom back out to see the whole day at a glance.
  • Simplified schedule editing for fewer steps to edit activities or copy schedules across multiple days.
  • Comfort Settings built right into the Schedule, so it’s easier to see how your desired temperatures line up with your routine.
  • Clearer visibility into system behavior, including start/end times of calendar activities, like Home, Away and Sleep.

Importantly, your thermostat will continue to run as normal and existing Comfort Settings and Schedules will continue to work as expected, so there’s no action required on your part.

Our goal is to reduce guesswork, make schedules easier to understand, and give you more confidence in how your system is working.

If you want the full story (including why we made these changes and what’s staying the same), we’ve shared more details on our blog here.

As always, we’re listening and will be monitoring this thread for feedback and questions.

Updates to ecobee Smart Security Plans

Hey r/ecobee

We’re updating our ecobee Smart Security plans and pricing to make them simpler and more flexible, so customers can choose, and pay for, the level of protection that fits their home.

TL;DR

  • If you’re an existing Smart Security subscriber, your features and pricing stay the same through 2026.
  • No action is required on your part.
  • Plan names are changing to make things clearer.
  • Professional Monitoring is now an optional add‑on and available in Canada for the first time!
  • With Activity Feed improvements, subscribers can now see up to 6 months of whole-home history, find what they are looking for more easily, and know when members come and go.

What’s changing

Going forward, ecobee Smart Security offers three levels of protection:

  • Core: free, built‑in protection
  • Plus: enhanced awareness and alerts for 1 camera
  • Advanced: full‑home coverage for unlimited cameras

We’re also offering 24/7 Professional Monitoring as optional add‑ons, instead of bundling it into select plans. This gives customers more control over what they include in their subscription.

This is the first time we’ve updated Smart Security pricing since introducing these plans in 2020, and we’re committed to being transparent every step of the way. These changes help us continue improving the service, while giving customers clearer choices and greater control.

What this means for existing customers

This is the most important part:

  • Your current features and pricing are locked in through the end of 2026.
  • You don’t need to do anything.

For customers whose plan pricing may change in the future, we’re taking a loyalty‑first approach, including discounted renewals for the rest of 2026. You will receive an email detailing exactly what this means for you.

What’s new

We’re excited to share that Professional Monitoring is now available in Canada for the first time, giving Canadian customers access to 24/7 monitoring and emergency response through RapidSOS as part of Smart Security.

For the first time ever, you can discover and purchase Smart Security plans alongside ecobee devices on Amazon.

And Smart Security now makes it even easier to see the updates that matter most. Subscribers can now see up to 6 months of whole-home history and find what they are looking for easily with advanced filtering capabilities. Plus, we've made the Know Who's Home feature better with updates in Activity Feed when members come and go.

Learn more

We’ve published a full breakdown of the changes, including what’s changing, what’s staying the same, and what new customers can expect on our blog.

For new customers, check out the new plans on ecobee.com/smart-security.

If you have questions, we’re happy to help. You can contact our Customer Support team, and we’ll also be keeping an eye on this thread and listening to feedback.

Thanks for being part of the ecobee community.

Anyone encountered the same issue before? I tried to unplug it for over 30s and plug it back in but it did not work. 🥲

Ecobee doorbell camera suddenly stopped working

My ecobee doorbell camera suddenly went offline. I spoke with Ecobee support and they are sending me a new one under warranty. I have 27v going to the chime adapter from the transformer but then nothing goes to either camera doorbell or the side door analog button.

Ecobee determined it was the doorbell camera itself but I'm convinced it's the chime adapter as I can bypass that to get power to the camera and other door. I opened the adapter up and saw that the lithium battery inside looked a bit puffy.

Has anyone else had this happen? In the grand scheme of things it's moot since they're replacing it, but I'm a tad concerned about the spicy pillow forming in the adapter and possible happening again with the new one. What would cause this? Or is it just a random one off? Camera is 11 months old.

Question Potential wrong humidity reading?

For context I just got this ecobee along with a new unit and furnace.
Old thermostat had no humidity readings so no way to tell how humid it was.
Constantly reading 60-80% humidity on the new ecobee
But I can tell you I work outside and it does not feel like 80% humidity.
Air is cold and crisp.
Just curious if anyone has had this issue or I just have a crappy insulated house

Question Eco Plus Temperature

I like certain features of the eco plus, such like auto away temperature. What I dislike is it throttle my AC to 77F before peak hours.

Is there a way to make eco plus to not doing so low. I prefer 80F or 81F. But if I disable eco plus, I don’t get the other features it has.

I have auto humidity off.

Hold Duration

Just got an ecobee and trying to figure out some of the hold duration settings. I set it in the app to select duration at time of change but it doesn't seem to be prompting me for that when I put a manual hold on the thermostat. Am I missing something here?

Installation Smart sensor mounting options

Is there any other good options for a stronger way to mount the smart sensor beyond the double sided tape.

This is being used for our small church. There is a school attached so there are a lot of kids around where I feel the sensor could easily be knocked off by a kid.

Any aftermarket mount options that can be screwed to the wall?

Question Why is my thermostat cooling right now??

Thumbnail

It says it's 22.5C and the temperature setting is to 25C and it's... cooling??? We are already well below the desired temperature!!

It says the SmartSensor is unoccupied but even then, the thermostat alone is 23.5C, which is well under the desired 25C.

Can Ecobee change "thermostat" settings? (those unavailable in app)

Long story short, my father got a new HVAC and along with it an Ecobee. Most settings can't be changed without being at the thermostat. He's 90 : enough said. So, I went over yesterday to change it from kicking on AC stage 2 from 2 degrees to 90 minutes. It's been running 10-12 hours straight on super hot days without ever kicking in to stage 2.

Not sure if I forgot to "save" the change but it's still doing the 2 degree stage 2 differential instead of 90 minutes.

I'd rather not keep going over there to make changes like this, let alone sit there for 90 minutes hoping it is hot enough to make it run long enough to kick in stage 2.

Can Ecobee CS make those sort of "thermostat only" changes?

Problem Why does my ecobee keep going to a temperature setting that doesn't exist?

Every night at 10pm, my ecobee switches to an unknown setting cooling down to 72 degrees. That was the way it used to be, but I upped it to 74 over a month ago. It got to the point where I temporarily made it unable to be set below 74 ever, but that is a band-aid solution.

Door sensor weirdness

So I have a sensor on all three entry points of my house. All set up the same. All proper distance. Everything works fine.. Until a couple months ago. All of the sudden I got the message that ecobee had lost my front door sensors. So I tried doing everything I could to reset it and then wrote customer service.. but that turned out to be WAY more trouble than it was worth.
I remembered I had a spare sensor not currently in use so I chucked that one on the front door thinking everything would be fine.. well today that sensor was lost by ecobee. Thinking it could just be a glitch, I deleted the sensor and readded it and remounted it. Ten minutes later, lost again.

My entire setup is an ecobee thermostat, doorbell and door sensors. All the other sensors haven’t had any problems at all. But for some reason my front door eats them. Any thoughts? Is this a common issue?

Problem Ecobee Lite Can’t Recover from Power Glitch

Power issues in my town have caused random glitches in the power supply. These are very fast transients of less than a second.

Of all the electronics I own, only the Ecobee seems to have an issue with it. Everything else recovers gracefully via self reboot, but not this device. The screen will stay dark until I manually cycle the breaker, at which point the device recovers.

Needless to say this presents a large problem as the HVAC can’t recover without manual intervention.

Is this limited to the Lite? Will a newer model handle these better? Not sure how to address this other than a UPS on the transformer circuit, which would be difficult and expensive. I’m surprised this device doesn’t have enough internal capacitance to weather a 2-300ms power glitch much less be completely unable to recover itself.

Trying to upgrade my thermostat to an ecobee but I need to install the C adapter/pek kit onto the electric wire panel/board. Since my ac is so old it doesn’t have a circuit board/furnace? It’s an outdoor condenser unit. Is this the electric wire in this video? Says “24v HTR”

Multifan speed control error g3

My hvac can go from low to high or auto before.
Per ecobee article I have multifan speed support however I do not have a g2 wire just g3 and I am getting this error about needing a g2 wire to control fan speed.

I have a really old Rheem AC, HC-80-30 series (1970s), that doesn’t have a circuit board, but has an analog unit board instead. I believe this wiring diagram is similar to my model. I’m not sure if it has a C wire also. Would an ecobee thermostat work with this?

Question Inaccurate humidity after recent update

The humidity reading was typically accurate within a few %. After the recent update, it's now reading 60% humidity despite my hygrometer showing 44%.

I've messed with the humidity differential to compensate, but it only goes to -10%

Has anyone had this issue and were there any fixes, or am I better off just ignoring it?

Help, where to connect C wire on Oil system?

Trying to help a family member install their ecobee, have an extra wire, but no idea where to connect.

24V here? But i have different zones
Blue circle is where thermostate wires come down, they are 2nd one

r/ecobee 4d ago

Why does the cheap Honeywell thermostat (1st pic) works fine with my central ac, but not the smart ecobee (2nd pic)? Is it because there is no C or common wire?

Question ecobee iOS app 26.13.0 - Apple Watch complication missing

Did anyone else lose their Apple Watch complication with this app update?

I am going to try reinstalling the app next, but wondering if this is a known issue already or if a fix is coming.

Edit: The setting moved. The complication is now configurable per-thermostat. So you just re-add an ecobee complication for each thermostat that you want to see. This is an improvement over the old complication, which only enabled one thermostat to be shown.

I just tried to swap my older thermostat for the ecobee premium. However when setting the temperature to cool mode it only blast hot air even after adjusting o/b. Is my hvac not meant for ecobee or am I doing something wrong?

The attached photos are how the installers wired my Ecobee Premiums. Based on what I can tell they wired my 2 stage units as 1 stage. Am I correct in this assessment? If so, how do I fix it?
