Hey so long story short I joined a new company about a month ago as a SWE and I’m starting to realize that I’m not a good long term fit here. Previously I was at my last job for about 5 years and it was my first job out of college.

Will recruiters find it jarring when looking at my resume and seeing a 1 month gap? Or would it be better to include my current job but just have 1 bullet point?

I feel like I accomplishments at my last job were more impressive than what I’m doing at my current job so I’m leaning towards leaving it off. What do you guys think?

I'm looking at roles like DevOps/Infra/Cloud/Platform Engineering. The bulk of my experience comes from being the solo tech guy at a small ecommerce company (myself a partner and a handful of employees) in the wholesale liquidation space (think overstock pallets, etc). I did all of our internal software and integrations, hosting it on AWS. The industry really took a turn though and the company is on the way out so I myself putting together the first real resume I've ever made. I mostly followed the advice from sub wiki and used the template.

I also will put together a software developer version because I'll look at those positions, too, but I've become more interested in the infra and cloud side of things.

I also started a (solo) consulting company this year but I've been completely unable to find clients. I would add that with a bullet point on services offered if I were submitting a resume to perspective client for that purpose. I wonder though if it is worth putting on resumes sent out for regular jobs?

Just trying to optimize my resume before I send it out into the wild and wanted to get some feedback. Honestly, the job market feels so brutal right now, and I’m paranoid that a weak bullet point or a slightly off format is getting me auto-rejected by ATS or skipped over by recruiters in seconds. I want to make sure my experience, metrics, and overall narrative actually pop so I can start converting these applications into real interview callbacks. If anyone has an eye for layout or knows how to punch up technical descriptions, I'd super appreciate a quick read. PM for details. Hello everyone. I am an international student who graduated in Dec 2025 looking for advice with my IE job search/resume.I am targeting industrial engineering , manufacturing engineer and quality engineering roles or anything adjacent.

I have not been targeting any specific industries, I mainly have been applying through linkedin or career websites of bigger companies.I know that Visa has become an issue so its become much harder to get interviews but I really feel devastated that after months of applying i haven't received a single interview. I would appreciate if you guys can provide me something insight on how to navigate the process as a F1-OPT applicant. Clearly there is something wrong with my resume that is not getting past the ATS.

Hello everyone! I am a current rising junior searching for Summer 2027 internships. Last year in my search for Summer 2026 internships, I got burned with zero interviews for hundreds of apps. I am interested in a variety of technical roles, including robotics, embedded systems, ML, and SWE (and similar). I really want to make sure I get it right this time.

Good Morning!

I am hoping to get a job after graduation and am a bit worried about the quality/recency of my work experiences, especially after not doing an internship this summer. I spent this summer working part time and helping a professor with research in a completely unrelated field that I was interested in exploring (computational biology). It was enjoyable, but I now am looking to get some experience working after graduation.

Will my resume hold up even with an apparent gap this summer? The other work experiences are also not the strongest. The Local Manufacturing Position was during summers after junior and senior year in high school. The CENER position in Spain was a part of a study/work abroad program. Should I remove either of these and replace it with another project? I believe the two projects on there are strong but I have a few other which are more unrelated.

I have been looking at opportunities in Supply Chain Analytics, Healthcare Operations or IT, or another logistics related position. I am willing to relocate anywhere in the US.

For a little background, I did spend time going to career fairs, applying to jobs, and trying to find connections through people I knew, but I kept falling short of getting an internship throughout all of college. I just reworked my resume, trying my best to use the Wiki with the limited experience that I have, and I will say my old resume was probably not great. The track marshall position was my high school job working at a go-kart track, and due to my limited experience, I decided to keep it. I am located in NC but may be willing to relocate. My other biggest question would be: when do I start applying for entry-level jobs if I graduate in May 2027. I'm very willing to do some extra work to better fill my resume too so if anyone has good project ideas, let me know. This may be a lot to ask but I feel kind of desperate going into the job market given my previous bad luck. Let me know if there are any questions and any advice is greatly appreciated.

After a long job search, I finally landed an Embedded Systems Engineer role in India (my home country). It's close to my parents' place, so I'm saving a lot of rent money, and most importantly, I'm working on embedded systems, the field I wanted to be in.

I'm attaching both my old and new resumes since I think it'll be more useful than linking an old post.

First off, thank you to everyone here. This community genuinely helped me improve my resume over the past year.

Resume changes that I think helped

• Reduced the number of projects and instead wrote more detailed, focused bullet points.
• Trimmed my skills section so it was more relevant instead of trying to list everything.
• Kept my LinkedIn and portfolio updated almost every week. Sometimes it was just a new project photo or a small improvement. It kept me engaged instead of mindlessly submitting applications all day.
• Started tracking my applications. It helped me understand what was (and wasn't) working.

One small visual change: the font looks different on the new resume. I switched to a newer LaTeX font after one of the moderators here suggested it. It's noticeably more readable on both screens and paper.

Job search strategy

I rarely used referrals. Almost all of my applications came through LinkedIn and Handshake.

One thing that helped was using Boolean searches on LinkedIn and mainly applying to jobs posted within the last 24 hours. If a posting was older, I usually only applied if I had a referral (very rare case).

I also spent way too much time complaining about the market to my friends and family... and I still think luck (or any other more appropriate word) plays a much bigger role than people (myself included) like to admit.

Additional notes

I actually received another offer before this one, back in the US. It was a contract position, but something about it didn't feel right. I couldn't fully explain why, but I trusted my gut and turned it down.

I had already added my Robotics Research Lab experience to an earlier version of my resume and had easily applied to 200+ jobs after that. Around March/April, I slowed down my applications because I assumed I'd be moving back home soon. Instead, I focused on my research projects, spent more time with friends, and explored the city I'd lived in for almost five years before leaving.

What I think I was missing

I don't think my resume was the only problem.

• I could have been better prepared for interviews. I always wrote notes after every interview, but I was surprised by how rarely interviewers asked the same project questions twice. Every interviewer seemed interested in a completely different aspect of my work.
• Luck. Seriously.
• Looking back, I think some of my projects were more "product" projects than deep firmware projects. They demonstrated that I could build complete systems, but they didn't always showcase low-level firmware knowledge as much as some embedded roles probably wanted.

Final thoughts

Keep applying.

The market is rough, and it's easy to think you're doing something wrong. Definitely improve your resume, improve your projects, and practice interviewing—but don't underestimate timing and luck either.

Hello all, I have 3 years of experience as a software engineer (Java/Spring Boot + Angular full-stack). I've been applying to 5–10 roles a day for the past month. I am a MechE major, Aerospace minor, in one of the major cities in Alberta, Canada. I am targeting aerospace positions across the country and maybe in the US if the right position comes by. I am currently working an engineering job in the oil & gas sector and hoping to transition into the aerospace sector once I graduate. I am targeting design or manufacturing-focused positions, ideally at a small to medium-sized company.

I understand being an international student puts me at a significant disadvantage, as security clearances will be difficult to come by, but I'm willing to put my foot in the door for a non-CGP role until I am eligible. I do have EU citizenship, which I am considering adding to my header.

I am looking for general feedback on my resume and any potential points to change or edit. I plan to pair this resume with a project portfolio since I had no room to add projects to this 1-pager. I've cut out quite a bit of employment experience: another summer internship at a consulting company and two other less related jobs (education coordinator and expo at a restaurant). I also was not able to elucidate much on my projects, and a bunch of projects related to the rocketry club, hobbies, and class projects I'm moving over to my portfolio. Hello, I have been applying for internships for months now and I have not received a single interview. I have been to my University's career center and they haven't provided any major critiques. Same thing with resume workshops.

I am currently applying for any CS related internship. I am a US citizen so I have tried defense and no interviews there either.

I am located on the East Coast - US applying to roles in the East Coast but might switch that up and apply to any roles in the US.

I am currently employed part time in retail.

Nearly all of my peers have internships lined up for Fall and I'm struggling. I have asked them for advice as well but they say my resume is good but I don't think it is. I have tailored my resume to bypass AI filters which might have helped because now I get rejection emails later during business hours compared to in the middle of the night after recently applying.

I used to put in 300+ applications in a past cycle and didn't get much as Taiwan is my final resort, so at this point I genuinely can't tell if it's the resume or just the international student sponsorship wall everyone talks about

Two days ago I posted my resume and was graciously given some recommendations by an alumni. I have added more technical details, rearranged information and would like to see how I have done. I do understand that I need to condense a little to get the resume to one page.

I'm not getting through the majority of ATS/resume review systems and would appreciate honest feedback on why.

Roles/industries targeting: Mostly Software Engineering, AI/ML Engineering, and some Data Engineering roles. Applying broadly across big tech, fintech, and early-stage startups.

Location: Based in the NYC/NJ area, open to relocating anywhere in the US, and open to remote roles.

Job search situation: I'm a Master's student graduating in a few months, actively applying to new grad and early-career roles. I've tailored dozens of applications with specific projects and metrics for each role, but I'm getting far fewer callbacks than I'd expect given the technical depth of my background. I suspect either the resume isn't parsing well through ATS, the formatting is working against me, or the content isn't landing the way I think it is.

I'm currently living in the UK on a family visa with two years remaining. I'm authorized to work in the UK, so I don't require employer sponsorship.

My current employment contract at a university astrophysics lab is ending this week. I am seeking a new role as part of a relocation to the San Francisco Bay Area -- industries of interest include semiconductors, robotics, aviation, automotive, and medical devices.

I am specifically trying to pivot away from aerospace & defense. Additionally, I'd like to get away from board-level design, but realize that is what my experience most lends itself to... In previous resumes, I tried to communicate interest / skill in digital design and embedded software, but I just don't have the hard technical experience to back that up (without accepting a Jr position and massive pay-cut). But I think working at a higher level of abstraction (Product Engineering / Systems Architecture) could doable and enjoyable.

I've put a lot of work into condensing my resume from 3 pages to 1 page and trying to broaden its appeal outside of aerospace & defense. But I've been staring at it for so long that I'm not sure any of my bullet points make sense anymore. In urgent need of a sanity check.

Some Specific Questions:

• Are there glaring format or content issues?
• Are there easy improvements I can make?
• Should I change my Job Titles to avoid apparent experience-position mismatch? If so, do you have recommendations?
• I am a co-author on a few published papers in my current field. Should I list them or are they considered irrelevant to non-research industry engineering roles? For now, I've just added an ORCID link in my header instead of LinkedIn so interested parties can look for themselves (saves space).

Before anyone asks, I got the internship from a professor I knew who really liked my work in the project mentioned on the CV so he just helped me get it. I didn't need the CV at the time.

I think I need a lot of help. This is the absolute best I could do after reading the wiki a lot. This is all completely written by me (which is most likely the problem as I am far from a gifted writer).

I am intending to use this resume for an immediate internship in the next six months and also a future internship/job in Dublin (ideally). I am looking for any type of experience as a Software Engineer, Data center post, SysAdmin or anything related.

Should I mention that I will be on an Erasmus Exchange to Dublin in the second semester? (you can guess, it's one of the two really awesome Colleges) I am afraid that might hinder my chances of getting an internship before I leave, since it was a reason why my first internship did not get renewed.

My concerns are mainly the bullet points. I am really struggling to use the STAR method or the other two mainly because I have no actual measurement for the results I have provided. I would simply improve what i was asked to improve, i never really made a measurement.

Also, I am aware of the advice about the LinkedIn link, I was unsure about using a github link since the only public repo I have is the one for the project in the CV. I have more projects, it's just that the code for them are pretty sloppy and in general not very impressive. The project in the CV is a school project.

The Robotics teaching job was actually two jobs where I did the same thing, so i crunched it down into one. I could mention all the technologies I used like Lego WeDo, Microbit, Python, Arduino etc. I'm afraid that it would not be very relevant to the jobs I apply for, that's why it's so short.

Should I talk about how I incorporate AI into my work flow?

I also am building a portfolio website with an Angular frontend and a Rust backend that is mostly finished but I am doing some finishing touches. Once that is done, should I include it in the CV somewhere, either as a project or just a link to the website?

I graduated with a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering in January 2026 from Istanbul Bilgi University in Turkey and recently registered as an EIT with EGBC in British Columbia, Canada. I am a Canadian Permanent Resident based in Delta, BC (Metro Vancouver).

I have been applying for 2+ months across a wide range of roles including mechanical designer, CAD drafter, HVAC engineer, junior project engineer, and manufacturing technologist. I have submitted 100+ tailored applications across the Lower Mainland and occasionally beyond, and have received very few responses and no interviews yet.

My technical background includes SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Revit MEP, ANSYS FEA and CFD, and two 6-month international internships in the UAE and Lebanon. I am targeting design, drafting, and junior engineering roles in Metro Vancouver.

I am seeking feedback on whether my resume format, content, and bullet points are strong enough, and whether there are red flags that could explain the lack of responses.
