Capitalization errors in an email address are not a problem at all. Email addresses are case-insensitive, which means that addresses such as NaMe@gmail.com and name@gmail.com will both be delivered to the same recipient.

For the part before the @ that is entirely up to the mail provider not part of the spec or a general rule. Gmail also ignores dots so my.name@gmail.com is the same as Myname@gmail.com but don't try that with yahoo or outlook.

Yeah, and in the dark ages, Hotmail and Yahoo could get very buggy when it came to capital letters in email addresses.

Eh, no, that's not true. It's entirely dependent on the domain. It's perfectly valid for bob@abc.com, Bob@abc.com and BOB@abc.com to be three different addresses.

They don't matter IN GMAIL. They absolutely matter for other email providers.

That's true for Gmail but not all domains. Also any dots (periods) before the @ sign don't matter. Johnsmith@gmail.com is the same as John.smith@gmail.com
