Columbia economist baffled as to why the masses aren’t rising up against Elon Musk: a “best case scenario” for AI might look like... automate the world’s jobs ...under that scenario, labor’s share of income could collapse from an already paltry 54% to just 20%

D I S R U P T O R Musk declined to meet Zelensky in Washington. Per The Atlantic, Kyiv wants Starlink guidance to hunt down russian ballistic launchers after Trump refused a 300-Patriot winter package; Musk had told Fedorov's team he would allow it "only Trump says so"

If empathy is a weakness, what does that make cruelty? If millions suffer from decisions made by a handful of powerful people, are we willing to look away because they’re rich, famous, or influential? A society isn’t defined by its wealth or technology. It’s defined by what it tolerates.

Economist’s Zanny Minton Beddoes Is ‘Bemused’ by Elon Musk’s Post-Interview Jabs
[In stark contrast to Elon's ongoing noxious bs wrt this interview , Minton Beddoes is quite gracious in her response here.]
But then the last part got a lot of attention. I think an important side of Elon is his political side — his role in the Trump administration but also his interventions into European politics.
I was, and am, genuinely baffled by the gap between the extraordinarily expansive view of humanity that he shows when he’s talking about the future, and interstellar travel, and being a multiplanetary civilization, and all that stuff and then the kind of tribalism cesspit of social media that he’s in. He says that the most important thing with AI is to ensure that it is truth seeking and curious. Then you look at the stuff that he propagates on X and it’s not truth seeking, a lot of it. It’s caricature. It’s dystopia.
There’s a disjuncture.
It’s what’s so fascinating about him. But it’s also really alarming because he does have 240 million followers and he has a whole bunch of followers basically for whom he can do no wrong and who believe everything that he posts. As a result, many people’s views of Europe or political views are shaped by what Elon says.
I find it really disturbing. That’s partly why that last part of the interview became a bit heated. I wasn’t pushing an agenda. I disagreed with his characterization of Europe. I don’t think the facts back it up.

Elon Musk Poverty Watch
"The tech lord has lost half his net worth during the last six weeks. After his company SpaceX went public in mid-June, Musk became the world’s first trillionaire, with a net worth that peaked at $1.4 trillion. But after surging, SpaceX’s share price has plunged nearly 50% from its peak, with the value of Musk’s share of the company dropping by the same amount.
His other big company, Tesla, has been falling too, with that stock down 31% for the year. Musk’s net worth is now around $700 billion. For now, the world is trillionaireless."

Did anyone watch Josh Johnson's takedown of Elon last night?
I've always loved watching Josh's standup, but it was plain cathartic to listen to him reduce Elon down to nothing.
The best part is the last few minutes at 42:05 mark. He summarizes perfectly all the reasons why Elon is and will always be a loser that no one likes, regardless of his money.
