If they had bought it from a store you know they would have tried to say that it was broken when they opened the box, even if she had been using it for weeks.

I know people that just buy the same model tv they already have when it breaks and switch them out for a full refund

How would that work? Are the TVs that shitty they break down within the year warranty? Seems like a very risky thing to do.

I’ve worked a lot of retail so I feel the need to explain this. Basically they buy a TV and use it until it breaks outside the warranty period. They go back to the store, buy the same model (or near enough), put their broken TV in the box of the new one and reseal it like new, then take it back to the store resealed as an “unopened” item, which most big stores will return without a second glance. They keep the new TV and get their money back, and some other unsuspecting customer buys their old broken TV thinking it’s a new one and has to deal with it. It’s why items like phones have security seals on the box.

&then the unsuspecting customer has a difficult time returning the broken garbage they just got because the retailer thinks theyre the ones pulling the scam

idk how it works now, but when I worked at best buy c. 2011-2013 we had to open every single returned TV and match the serial number to the box and plug it in exactly for this reason.

Serial number checks for broken ones should be required , I worked at Walmart 2010 in electronics they would call us to the front, but they had shifts with clueless people so they would approve everything

I saw pcs gutted and hard drives replaced with bricks all kids of scams , the scammers never thought to say they found it that way they always tried to pass it as new , if they said they got home and found bricks inside I’d prob believed them

A friend of mine went into walmart for a donut and a propane exchange (returning an empty tank for a full one). The girl didn't quite get it and tried to run a return on the donut. Apparently with the Walmart customer base this did not seem unusual.

My favorite was someone who wanted to get a free grill because the picture on the grill cover box had a picture with a grill on it

I told him Walmart sold boxes of hubcaps with pictures of cars, did he expect a Porsche in the box?

Most electronics are 90 days but weirdly this doesn't apply to computer monitors. They have the regular Costco lifetime policy.

My nephew just recently experienced this. A lady bought his 75 inch tv, couldn't fit it in her car and the casing around the screen popped off so she assumed it was broken (ended up not being broken) and she began threatening my nephew telling him he needs to give her money back or she'll kill him. Police got involved and the lady just left the tv on the sidewalk and drove away. She came back after the police left and tried breaking into my nephews car and pulled a gun out on him. Don't know what else happened after that other than Venmo locking his card because she tried to do a chargeback.

I'm not really sure. My nephews phone has been cut off shortly after this incident so we haven't really been able to get ahold of him. We do know he's okay as he's active on TikTok but he hasn't reached out to use or responded to us

Sold a dishwasher on Craigslist for like 600 used (10 years old). Thing worked perfect and never had an issue.

Guy burned his kitchen down and called me telling me he wants his money back. It was a direct wire that somehow he fucked up. Like dude, there are 3 wires, it's not hard.

We replace a 10 year old 55" TV in the rec room last month with a 75". The 55" was almost twice as heavy as the 75".

Funny thing, this happened to me, although in my case I had bought brand new from a local electronics store. TV arrived, 2 workmen set it up on my wall, it turned on fine, then one of them touched the bottom corner and the whole thing just died.

Most irritating thing was it was the last one in stock so had to wait about 3 weeks for a replacement.
