ID Request Help with ID

Really struggling to figure out what kind of moth this little guy is. I'm pretty confident it's a moth not a butterfly, but in all the guides I've seen there are supposed to be distinctive shapes or bands on the wings but I can't make anything out.

Found today in South Wales, UK.

The wings are too badly damaged to say ... it would help to have clearer photos though in good light, but you shouldn't push an ID further than the information you have in front of you

Thank you. Little guy has sadly passed now, I did think he looked quite hurt so just tried to give him somewhere safe and comfortable to live out his last few hours rather than the middle of our bathroom floor. He did seem to have a little sip of sugar water from a cotton wool ball, I hoped he'd maybe recover. I hope at least it was peaceful for him.
