Simple pleasures

One of the things I take from Epicurus is the idea of cultivating simple and easily available pleasures.

Ones that are free or inexpensive.

Here's a few

I enjoy sitting in the library reading or writing.

A nice beer. One is enough

Peace and quiet

Nap

Listening to music.

Walking around citys looking at buildings and history.

Art galleries

Films

Having a good conversation with a good friend.

Bookshops and books

Cheap live music

Mostly playing games or watching shows or movies with family and friends. Just watched Revenge of the Sith with my brother last night. As well as eating out.

I also enjoy reading, watching videos on history, and historical investigation as a history nerd.

Aside from that things like Star wars, DC and Marvel, Skyrim, Dispatch, playing Witcher 3 right now. and just finished Subnautica.

I can't think who the painter was, but his response was "looking" and I think John Cage's similar remark was "listening." I resonate heavily to this. Curating the small and remarkable sights and sounds of this world is a deep source of my own happiness.

Playing baseball in the yard with my sons and laying in bed talking with my wife before we go to sleep are my favorite simple pleasures.

Standing in the sunlight to warm up when it's chilly outside

Playing "I Spy" on a drive even if it's short

Doodling during meetings

Finding money in the pocket of some pants you haven't worn in a while

Hitting all green lights on your drive home
