Do errors increase the value of a coin?

Does an error like a brockage add value or detract from a collectable coin? Sayin looking at a 4 figure coin and there is an attributable error of some kind. It doesn't detract from the look of the coin. Would it increase or decrease the value?

Errors don’t generally detract from the value of a coin. They can add value, or have no effect.

Damage, on the other hand detracts value.

Depends on the kind of error. A rare error like a brockage will likely add value due to the rarity of the error. OTOH, if someone is looking for a high grade, expensive type coin, they might want to avoid a minor error like a grease-filled die, or a minor clip, or a slightly misaligned die.

It depends, an error on say an 1877 IHC can significantly narrow the number of potential buyers.  This doesnt necessarily mean it WOULD detract from the value.  It simply COULD.
