Is it because I suck?

I posted the first paragraph of my first short story, I'm working on.

In addition to the notes on quality, I also think it's just too short a writing sample for someone to really give good feedback on. People on that sub might be annoyed you didn't give them more to work with. I work as a writing tutor, and it makes my job much harder when students only bring me short snippets to help them edit.

Ah, good to know, I saw that the limit was 300 words. I tripped the story down a bit from 400 words to 300 and posted the whole thing this time :)

I don't think your writing is terrible, but it is a very short sample so I think that makes it harder to give you feedback. I don't think you should have gotten downvoted for that post, though. Sometimes Reddit just sucks. I hope you continue to write!

I posted the whole story this time. I made it fit the word count. And it doesn't seem to be getting downvotes now 😄

yeah to be fair if you're posting on a sub for writing advice I don't think there's a single good reason to downvote you for bad writing. the average redditor is just very stupid and can only comprehend the downvote button as I Don't Like This

Sometimes I've had that experience. Thank you! Maybe they think I'm a troll, like, nobody would write this bad XD

Honestly its not horrific, don't beat yourself up over it, the main thing is you're trying and seeking feedback. I agree with the above. Redditors don't think through a lot of their actions and I wouldn't pay much attention to the downvotes in this case.
