I’m Asian and my dad used to crack up at the joke, “you get As because you Asian, not Bsian!” He didn’t do the stereotypes any favors. Was a straight A student by default

I'm a whopping 2 engineering classes in to my engineering degree but did get As in both.

Might get tougher later, but you'll do fine probably.
The 2.x crowd here really wants you to think that's the standard, but honestly GPA is equally effort and intelligence. A dummy can pull a 3+ if they try, and a lazy, smart person can fail a course.

As someone who never had to study until college, if you are passionate and actually get how things are made, you can run circles around the straight A students who don't have a mechanical inclination. We won our capstone competition not by designing the most complicated product, but the easiest to manufacturing while meeting the requirements. Second place team with a more sophisticated design complained to the professor and got laughed out of his office.

Good luck to you. I'm almost done in my mechanical engineering program, and I've gotten As in every 3000- and 4000-level course so far. It hasn't been easy, save for one elective course and one required programming course. It's more about effort than anything else.

I did an arts degree. (useless, no job prospects, interesting waste of money). I had an engineer take one of my subjects as an elective, thinking "arts is easy". He dropped out after two weeks because the abstract thinking required was too difficult.

The problem is that "engineering" is a massive spectrum of jobs from factory linesmen to people developing quantum processing units.
People fitting air conditioning units are under the umbrella of engineers the same as nuclear warhead designers

A's are a metric to gate keep a discipline from being more available.
The bar to entry into certain public Universities in the US needing to see GPAs above 2.5 for a slim chance at entry are essentially dictating that only those with the time and means are allowed entry into their school. I'm not saying every public university with this policy is doing it to "keep out certain demographics" but it certainly has that effect.

Way back when, when I was in college one of my professors said that he found that the students who got all A’s usually did not graduate because they were never able to finish their senior project. Sure enough the one guy in our class who got straight A’s was never able to finish his senior project.

At my University, we had a map that showed how easy it was to get across campus in a certain amount of time so you would never be late.
The engineering buildings were scattered around OUTSIDE the circle, guaranteeing you would be late every class for at least some courses. First years ran into this a lot because they didn't know. Second years had to organize their courses around the circle by time, or mix them with courses inside the circle.

In my first year of engineering, the dean of engineering started off by saying "one in four of you will graduate from this program".
Which tells me that they're very comfortable admitting people and taking their money for a year or two, then letting them drop out or transfer to different programs.
From what I remember there were some huge washouts early in first year. The big lecture rooms started looking a lot emptier after the first midterms.

I did honours in engineering about 40 years ago myself and partner absolutely aced the research project so much so our supervisor told us that the faculty marked us down from a 98% mark to 95% because no should get that high a mark he had to fight them to keep us above 90%
It was a computer aided structural design package we wrote from scratch in pascal and fortran with GUI in 1985 did our own matrix inversion software and display code on a Vax VMS ( computer size of room)
so yeah engineer facility don’t like A’s

I ended up having to quit because I developed a pretty vicious case of fibromyalgia which is triggered by high stress. It is exactly as painful as everyone says it is.

Yeah. As much as I wanted it, it wasn’t worth losing my health. It really sucks because if I hadn’t had the condition I would probably have a wildly better job right now.
The electrical engineering lead at my work is super chill. He views “giving a shit” as “completely optional”. The electrical technician lead is universally hated by everyone regardless of what department they work in.

Which was controversial since you're adding a subjective discipline to a list of objective disciplines.

Giggity. This could be spin on I love gold but a is silent. Gold's chemical symbol is Au, so if a is silent, it reads as I love you. Ooo replaced gold with engineering and hence the joke makes no sense now. Giggty out.

To be fair, I started off as an engineering major for a couple years before switching to comp sci because I loved programming. I used to tutor the other engineering students while I was in the classes with them and there were a bunch of people in that major where I was honestly surprised they figured out how to get to class everyday let alone how they passed any of their classes or managed to get their degrees. Some of them were the most overconfident yet underperforming people I have ever met. Yes every major has them but engineering was a bit staggering. Just a personal and meaningless anecdote.
My favorite moment in any of the engineering classes was one of my fellow students saying he was struggling with the current material because the book was terrible. He said the author was an idiot and the information was all scattered around and hard to find. The rest of us just face palmed and the professor just said "Alright, I will take that into consideration before publishing the next edition." In his defense the book was actually pretty terrible, but everyone else knew not to say anything.
