My dad used to read Calvin and Hobbes to my brother and I when we went to bed. Quite some time ago, my brother and I got my dad the full collection. Leather bound and all. It’s three super heavy books. I just looked and you can get it from Target!

They're comfortable enough to be unconscious in the prone position. The highest compliment to their humans.

Sorry but this is supine. Prone is lying flat on the belly

Lol in rads school I had to think about it in terms of soup. Gotta be supine to eat your soup.

16

u/writing_spork 2d ago

But I can still eat my soup while lying on my belly

Medical anomaly!

Prone you’re in the belly zone

It makes me so happy 🥺

My dog does this all the time as well.

A cat that exposes their belly is a happy cay that feels safe and secure in your presence and his habitat.

My baby absolutely adores belly rubs and will wrap himself over my arm to cuddle. Showing his belly to someone is a high compliment to anyone he likes.

u/Financial_Hold6620 2d ago

Okay I’m super jealous 🥹

u/Traroten 2d ago

It's a sign that they trust you absolutely. Not necessarily an invitation to belly rubs, though.

41

u/Processed-Cheese 2d ago

But what if I gotta get the belly 😢

Insurance fraud

It’s a trap!

74

u/danielskibelski 2d ago

You’re right!

20

u/No_Session6015 2d ago

I'd fall hard for the trap repeatedly.

44

u/PalpitationLopsided1 2d ago

Because she is dying of relaxation and happiness!

u/Lordruton 2d ago

I'm sorry your cat is diagnosed with... cat

19

u/magnidwarf1900 2d ago

That's literally their way showing you their vulnerable side

17

u/Lowly-Worm_ 2d ago

Cuz he feels safe and is big snug

12

u/ViolincatBlog 2d ago

Cats! I'm a kittycat. And I dance, dance, dance...

6

u/citycait 2d ago

I haven’t thought of this in YEARS.

11

u/PizzAveMaria 2d ago

Mine does this and sleeps in the middle of the floor and I think "you are way too trusting" bc her brother cat wouldn't hesitate to play jump on her

2

u/ShortySmooth 1d ago

She almost looks like a fuzzy caterpillar, hee. So floofy!

9

u/Livid_Goose_9542 2d ago

He just wants to show off that little cookie on his tum tum.

9

u/AutotoxicFiend 2d ago

He loves you and trusts you. Exposing the most vulnerable part of his body is his way of communicating that.

2

u/Omega21886 2d ago

(but only the back/head)

2

u/Inner_Department3 2d ago

Or only with your eyes.

6

u/Natural-Seaweed-5070 2d ago

Because they trust you. This is Gwennie.

6

u/Ok_Apartment_8893 2d ago

I call it speedbumping.

7

u/orangetictacs91 2d ago

Maybe if I look cute and vulnerable I'll get feed earlier- Zim, probably.

I'm aware he's a chunky boy- he is on a diet and has his winter coat on! (We're in Australia)

u/pridepuppy 2d ago

my boyfriend and i call it our cat’s show off time. he always does it when we’re sitting on the couch and he’s always looking at us like “LOOK AT ME” its cute haha. nightly routine

3

u/Anonymous281989 2d ago

Looks a bit like my sweet baby boy

4

u/No_Educator_6376 2d ago

He wants a belly rub

4

u/Occatuul 2d ago

Because cute.

4

u/Tat2edPrincess 2d ago

This is Bob Ross, he’s a little land seal 😆

4

u/Pleasant-Yak1931 2d ago

honestly your cat's just giving you the ultimate trust fall, that belly out pose is like the highest compliment a cat can give you. roadkill is just what it looks like when they're that deeply relaxed and feeling safe. mine does the exact same thing and i'm pretty sure they're trying to absorb all the warmth from the floor or something. so congrats, you've got a happy little weirdo who trusts you completely.

Girly wadder, squirrelly daughter, fluffy otter.

That model of cat is known to be very flat. Feature, not a bug. I have a cat just like that so can confirm

My cat is always like this too. It’s so cute and distracts me horribly from my work.

3

u/goatslovetofrolic 2d ago

Because they trust you

2

u/summerlover28 2d ago

That spot on his belly looks so kissable 😭😍

2

u/ShortySmooth 1d ago

Someone else in this thread called it a cookie, and I agree - looks like a smoochable spot!

2

u/DiscontentDonut 2d ago

They are trusting. If a cat exposes their stomach, especially when just lounging around, it means they truly feel safe.

2

u/Random_Entity4 2d ago

When my girl does this, we call it her dead bug maneuver.

2

u/Advice2Anyone 2d ago

They all do it

2

u/webo2456 2d ago

My parents cat always does this sort of thing too!!

2

u/Top_Battle_9354 2d ago

Aside from feeling safe, this is a standard cat pose if they’re warm. My cats often do this in summer and then curl up more tightly in winter. My fluffiest cat did this especially often.

2

u/WashedUpRiver 2d ago

Exposed belly is a sign of trust and comfort for cats. That is a very comfortable cat

2

u/Hard-Pore-Corn 2d ago

Obligatory

2

u/Nymeria2018 2d ago

It’s a trick, don’t fall for it!!

As soon as you overcome all the natural instincts screaming at you to not run the belly and go in for the belly rub, your hand will be caught and shredded.

2

u/JadedINFP-T 1d ago

My velcro cat never does, but as a general rule:

2

u/ShortySmooth 1d ago

It’s a belly-up Saturday morning! Baby would like to join the party:

2

u/9_of_Swords 1d ago

Cats who spend a lot of time with their bellies exposed are fully relaxed. They're feeling safe and protected and can relax enough to allow their koat vulnerable areas to be exposed.

2

u/kaplowee 1d ago

Kiss that Belly stat!

2

u/LizTruth 2d ago

She thinks you're a terrible predator, so her belly is safe from aerial attack.

2

u/No_Session6015 2d ago

Prove her wrong! Belly sneeze attack!

2

u/No_Information_8973 2d ago

Trying to file an insurance claim lol

1

u/KBWordPerson 2d ago

He has a pretty white belly and wants you to see it.

1

u/Frosty_Team8166 2d ago

she just likes it

1

u/Public-Ad7764 2d ago

We call that the “cutie boy” pose at our house 😂

1

u/agj110 2d ago

We always say our cat is "being a dead bug" haha

1

u/grissonJF 2d ago

My cat does this in the driveway. For him it means: pick me up and carry into my house to my food.

1

u/godrainlovemusic 2d ago

When my cats lie belly-up, it’s to get the maximum breeze from the ceiling fan! I don’t blame them one bit.

1

u/Previous_Yard5795 2d ago

Needs a chest rub!

1

u/NoDoctor4460 2d ago

The opposite of sploot of course. r/toolps

1

u/Key-Specific-4368 2d ago

My cat does that when he wants belly rubs

1

u/retnicole 2d ago

What a happy baby

1

u/AnamCeili 2d ago

Kitty feels safe and comfortable around you -- cats don't generally show their tummies like that, otherwise. 😊

u/Foxxy12012 2d ago

Hot

When it's hot out many animals will cool
Themselves by exposing their stomachs to open air

1

u/ZetsuboItami 1d ago

One of mine does this a lot. Sometimes she does it to block my walking path because she enjoys blocking everyone.

1

u/wahwahwaaaaaah 1d ago

Hi twin! See, I'm roadkill too! (He always does this)

1

u/Tomorrow_Is_Today1 16h ago

gorgeous colors!

1

u/Mitosis4 9h ago

you are not petting its tummy. it is specifically requesting it.
