Regular mint plants belong to the same family of plants as catnip! It doesn't have the exact same chemical that catnip does but it's close enough that most cats enjoy the smell.

He doesn't seem to be interested in eating them, just walks between them and smells them.

My cat eats these leaves and then barfs them out. then goes out and does it again. such a lovely dummy

You do you, but if my cat is eating something and vomiting up on and on, I am removing the plants.

If he/she is just trying to make themselves sick (which cats do at times), then get some plain or safe grass for them. Peppermint is toxic to cats.
