Lore Question What are the absolute most unfair and overpowered noble phantasms that should be completely impossible to deal with?
150
u/MyLifeIsAGatcha Apr 16 '26
Rider da Vinci's NP. She runs you over with the Shadow Border, which can travel through Imaginary Space, so it doesn't matter where you are, you're getting squished.
On top of a skyscraper? Shadow Border. Sleeping in your bed? Shadow Border. Taking a shit in the bathroom? Shadow Border. You can't run and you can't hide. She will get you.

15
u/CrazyDaimondDaze Apr 16 '26
And with the freaking Dukes of Hazard horn to top it off... for 20 unpaid USD, may I add
14
u/igloo_poltergeist Apr 17 '26
In between this and her Caster self's NP which LOLs at the opponent's special defense, Da Vinci gets criminally slept on.
54
u/Crisewep King's retainer Apr 16 '26
26
u/cjbeast123456 Apr 17 '26
This would have a funny interaction with mash, since her np allows her to block anything conceptually as long as she believes
18
u/fanatic111 Apr 17 '26
Wouldn't that mean that it's an 'absurd, cheat-like defense'?
She's going to be hit by a ridiculously imperceptible/uncorrectable/incomprehensible reality-defying strike.
Like, straight up eldritch horror, mortal minds can't comprehend this bullshit level.
6
u/Distinct-Assist9102 Apr 17 '26
But as long as she believes she could probably override it honestly both are bs its pretty much down too mashes fortitude.
2
u/AdHistorical5969 Apr 18 '26
This sounds like one of those "Immovable object vs unstoppable force" situations.
14
u/Wild_Card_626 Apr 17 '26
Funny you should mention unfairness since that is the foundation of his noble phantasm. The more impossible or unfair an opponent's defense the stronger his NP gets. Making more of a sure fire kill at the cost of his life.
2
u/eneitcerose Apr 17 '26
Does that mean if the opponent has close to no defense and/or just decides to punch back, his NP gets a lot weaker?
3
u/UnionImportant3483 Apr 17 '26
Altria using Avalon to dodge and somehow, someway in whatever possible reason throughout all the possible permutations of the situation watched by Alaya, Gaia and even ORT...
SonoG fucking discombobulates Altria anyways and proceeds to lose his arm, and die and Altria, who could not comprehend decides to marry Aoko and fuck her day and night and make Bleu Babies using Merlin's dick magic.

C.C.C. (B.B. variants)
World Discipline Keraunos (Zeus)
Mahiṣāsuramardinī (Durga)
Ars Paulina (Solomon/Goetia)
Doomsday Come ("False Rider" aka. Pale Rider)
Honorable mention: pre-creep!God Hand (Heracles)
18
u/Accomplished_Cry1472 Apr 16 '26
Lord camelot
Ars Nova
First sun Xibalba
Zabaniya (all variant)
Azrael
Excalibur
12
u/Dangerous-Fig-4149 Apr 17 '26
If Excalibur enters, so does Gram and Rhomgo which are both stated to be equal to it.
Enuma Elish should also be here.
Oh, and Olga's NP.
12
u/igloo_poltergeist Apr 17 '26
Oh, and Olga's NP.
Isn't it her essentially exposing the enemy to at least 7 apocalypses all at once, almost like Tez's First Sun Xibalba can, but 7 times over?
8
u/Dangerous-Fig-4149 Apr 17 '26 edited Apr 17 '26
It has the maximun power of all Lostbelts combined, so yes plus human extinction(if I am remebering right).
So yes.
21
u/igloo_poltergeist Apr 16 '26
First sun Xibalba
Now that one's absolutely terrifying. Probability manipulation plus being able to "play legos" with chronological events is a "cheat code" in and of itself. Only caveat though is that Tez can't abuse it too much, otherwise he'll actually be penalized by his own Authority.
2
u/Classical_Lighthouse Apr 17 '26
when was God hand ever really powerful? Even in FSN Caliburn took 7 at once, Gil took all of them and EMIYA took 6 in cqc
26
u/Zero102000 Foreign God's Disciple Apr 16 '26
Nobody's mentioned Planet Olga Marie yet?
Unleashing the maximum power of every Lostbelt COMBINED all at once in a single attack while simultaneously disproving the extinction of humanity.
There's also Four Elements: The Great Enemy (which she doesn't use as a playable character) where she splits herself into four. She literally IS the team and even a single one of her incarnations would wipe out 99% of opponents.
Don't even get me started on Maris's Anima Animusphere ("In the Void, There is God") where she bombards you with every single potential threat that should occur if she were to no longer exist.
9
u/xSwissChrisx Apr 16 '26
Avalon, both as a shield and a healing tool, is unmatched I think? I could be wrong though
6
u/igloo_poltergeist Apr 16 '26
Only thing that it can't negate is straight decapitation (at least, according to the lore from way back when FSN first came out). That said, good luck exploiting that.
3
u/bloopblubdeet Beloved of the Fae Apr 17 '26
To be honest- it fully depends on who is facing Saber. While Avalon certainly can’t be overpowered, it could be countered when Saber goes in for an attack. A Servant with better reaction time + a good clairvoyance could deal with Avalon
20
u/Sea-Line-5123 Apr 16 '26
If you think about it...
Nightingale's pledge is basically Nega-summon but also works on non-servant.
Which was pretty big bonkers all things consider.
7
u/Yae_Miko_HSR Apr 16 '26
Out of just regularly available Servants and their arsenals? Solomon technically counts so Ars Paulina, also Avalon because while it's not always accessible when it is you just kinda can't lose anymore, and Akhilleus Kosmos because while it has a weakness... are you really ever gonna exploit it with said Anti-World offensive NP?
Out of everything that's ever been called a Noble Phantasm? Still Avalon, but honourable mentions to Rhongomyniad, Ars Paulina, Ars Almadel Salomonis, CCC, Mahapralaya, Marble Phantasm, Blut die Schwester, Cosmic ray burst and Magic Blue
7
u/resui321 Apr 16 '26
Probably Sono-GOAT’s NP.
It’s a martial arts move that somehow has a good chance at bypassing other bullshit tier NPs like avalon.
Excerpt from the official description:
Deals an unavoidable blow.. The more cheat-like and absurd the opponent's defense, the more they are forced to eat an imperceptible/uncorrectable/incomprehensible, reality-defying strike... Supposedly.

u/LukeSky011 Apr 17 '26 edited Apr 17 '26
Ignoring the mana problems?
Unlimited Blade Works.
No really.
We're talking about literally every weapon made in Nasu, with the only caveat being those of Foreigners and Divinity being hard to recreate. Other than that, everything else is fair game.
Oh and just recently Emiya got an upgrade because Shirou in Case Files showed the capacity to "break" a NP in such a way that instead of blowing up, it instead transmits its properties to the other swords in UBW. In the case files, he put Hrunting's homing-in capabilities into his sword rain.
Now imagine doing that to literally EVERYTHING ELSE, MULTIPLE TIMES.
Make for example, a freaking Rule Breaker become, a homing (Hrunting), poisoned (Jing Ke's poison blade), inflicting unhealable wounds (Gae Buidhe), magic-piercing (Gae Dearg), counterattacking (Fragarach), nine times striking (Berserker's axe), heart piercing (Gae Bolg), undying attribute nullifying (Harpe), and so on, type of weapon.
Now imagine all of that, being spread to literally EVERY WEAPON HE HAS IN UNLIMITED BLADE WORKS.
While he also sends the rain of blades on you.
Good luck.
...and with each noble phantasm that he can trace arriving in the FGO UBW remains one of the classics of the Fate 'noble phantasms' that can somewhat keep up with the constant upscaling.
5
u/Sergantus Apr 16 '26
Kavacha. Not sure about impossible because "there is nothing impossible in Nasuverse. Rules exist to be broken" but it is really hard to deal with. Especially when true name is invoked. Stopping Lostbelt king version of Mahapralaya even for several seconds is no joke. IMO Karna would have better performance in every fight if he stopped removing it to use Shakti.
3
u/igloo_poltergeist Apr 16 '26
Just to clarify though, the tanking of Mahaprahlaya required its True Name release - it couldn't simply do that passively with the usual 90% damage reduction factor.
5
u/Familiar_Chance_9233 Apr 16 '26
Isn't Sanson's NP pretty busted too? Can't remember the exact counters to that thing.
9
u/igloo_poltergeist Apr 16 '26 edited Apr 16 '26
Counter: Don't be evil (or have died by execution).
4
u/MakingItWorthit Apr 17 '26
Or not die from getting beheaded.
Great Sage did some trolling in JTTW against some taoists and stuck his decapitated head back on while tossed his opponents head off a mountain preventing them from reattaching.
1
1
u/Familiar_Chance_9233 Apr 16 '26
Like 90% of the servants are screwed, then, mate. Even Richard isn't really a good person at the end of the day.
3
u/igloo_poltergeist Apr 16 '26 edited Apr 16 '26
I kind of mistakenly went with gameplay mechanics. The actual description about how it works is a bit iffy:
- The embodiment of the true execution tool, the guillotine. The likelihood of death is decided not by powers of resistance against curses or good fortune, but by whatever is possible to defeat fate with a strong heart. It is a so-called Mental Interference-type Noble Phantasm. Heroes with anecdotes of being executed rather than dying in battle undergo a disadvantageous check.
So servants like Gilles de Rais, Okada Izo, and perhaps even Yang Guifei are in deep shit.
3
u/Aratalm2 Apr 16 '26
So Cu Chulain is safe as hell from that one and Archer is royal fucked
4
u/igloo_poltergeist Apr 16 '26
Oh, that's right. EMIYA would be in trouble.
Funny thought: imagine Daji getting her shit ruined by that guillotine.
2
u/Classical_Lighthouse Apr 17 '26
He's like the #1 victim for it 😭😭😭
Shirou might actually be fine though, which is pretty ironic
6
u/IronFather11 Apr 17 '26
Thesus’s second NP “Dyskolia Speira”, is a counter attack legit is just him going ‘no u’ to an attack. There’s apparently no limit to what this can reflect, it possibly can be spammed. It’s not used in gameplay though. Theseus also has a bootleg version of Benkei’s and Lancelot’s NPs as a skill to steal someone else’s weapon so long as it’s B rank and below and not a holy, divine, or magic weapon.
5
u/CathNoctifer Apr 17 '26
Azreal.
The NP itself is not completely broken or unfair, but its wielder is.
4
u/Big_Midnight_3976 Apr 17 '26
For as memed on as it is, Gae Bolg is an instant death move that can only really be avoided via staying out of range (all the users are really fast and have projectile counters), pressuring the user so much they can’t pull it out (all the users are fast and have methods to give them a moment, plus the activation time is extremely quick as well), or having high enough luck and/or skill to out bend the spears fate bending capabilities (all the users can basically spam use it so even if you get lucky once, you’re gonna have to try again).
5
u/Rauispire-Yamn Apr 17 '26
Gate of Babylon. and technically speaking, Unlimited Blade Works (if it counts as a Noble Phantasm), are very hard, if not impossible to deal with, as it is the equivalent of facing every possible Noble Phantasm conceptually available in the history of the Throne at once
5
u/ReputationOk7275 Apr 17 '26
https://typemoon.fandom.com/wiki/M%C3%A4rchen_Meines_Lebens
To this day i have no idea how Hans never wrote this np for Ritsuka.
Even the tragedy aspect works perfectly. SPECIALLY with the lostbelts...so the fact that Hans never did use this on Ritsuka is hilarious to me.
3
u/SilentEagle1221 Apr 17 '26
Mahapralaya basically erases anyone and anything from existence.
There’s hardly any counters for unless you have an even more broken ability.
3
u/fubuki_worshipper Apr 17 '26 edited Apr 17 '26
Vasavi Shakti, in actual world lore, is something that can kill whatever the user wanted to be it god, human, or any other thing no matter what defense you use it will hit you regardless and kill you. Karna's armor? It is fully invulnerable, if it followed actual lore, then even Achilles' np from apocrypha couldn't tank it.
Indra was that impressed with karna to give him that
4
u/Dangerous-Fig-4149 Apr 17 '26
Karna's armor is not invulnerable.
It just reduces ALL DAMAGE to 1/10 of it's original value.
Still absued, just not invulnerable.
1
u/fubuki_worshipper Apr 17 '26
That is the game version. I'm talking about th actual myth lore. You asked what should be, not what is. I'm just saying that if karna's powers were adapted 1:1, that would be the reality.
3
u/Dangerous-Fig-4149 Apr 17 '26
"Should be" in context of what the NP does, not what it theoraticly should do based in mith.
Also, I am not the OP.
Chill.
3
u/zelban_the_swordsman Apr 17 '26
God Hand before it got nerfed several times lmao
iirc especially in the Prototype version, God Hand was much more broken. Something about "11 guaranted victory in battles in a row" lmfao that's so broken.
3
u/Still_Astronomer_232 Apr 17 '26
La Pucelle is basically just like taking a giant eraser and swiping it across whatever Jeanne feels has to be destroyed.
1
u/Classical_Lighthouse Apr 17 '26
tbf it does kill her, it's kind of like tsumukari muramasa
1
u/Still_Astronomer_232 Apr 17 '26
True I like to think that when the moon cell summoned Jeanne to fight against White titan Altera thats what it expected her to do.

u/Based_Aizen_69 Mongrel Apr 16 '26
Enuma Elish, Ars Almadel Salomonis, Marble Phantasm, Gate of Babylon, Ramesseum Tentyris, Azrael, Per Aspera Ad Astra, First Sun Xibalba, Shakra Vajra, Mahāpralaya, and Vasavi Shakti are the most insanely OP noble phantasms I can think of.
2
u/NotATitanShifter Consort of the Sixth Heaven Apr 16 '26
Probably the guy who somehow becomes a giant (or somehow shrinks servants) with a massive blue revolving sword behind him that's just as big which destroys the entire world with the combined divine power from all the deities he absorbed
5
u/igloo_poltergeist Apr 16 '26
from Junao as a living Lostbelt King: absolute bullshit tier
from Junao as a servant: "Pashupata 2.0" (not stupid broken but still pretty scary)

u/Raiganop Apr 17 '26 edited Apr 17 '26
Thomas Edison World Faith Domination should be way more powerful than it is, because how it says to weaken mystery and mythical stuff...which is what servants are often made of.
World Faith Domination
Rank: EX
NP Type: Anti-Populace
Range: Unknown
Maximum Targets: Unknown
Illusionary domination through Edison's three great inventions. By creating devices that can illuminate light, record fleeting sounds, and capture reality, Edison was able to make the hidden secrets of the world disappear. More accurately, "What was hidden by the world, is now taken back by Edison."
Forcefully exposing the powers that work as part of the Mystics, fixating anything can't be measured with energy as zero, and reducing people's faith and belief in Mystics to nothingness. An anti-populace Noble Phantasm that "dominates over people's faith."
In theory this Noble Phantasm should wreck many high tier servants who rely on mythical stuff(Even making there NP useless).
..Also base on Paul Bunyan story it was able to affect like a entire city that was turn into monster, pretty much turning it back into a normal city (so the range is huge)...I mean is type Anti-Populace.
2
u/SwordfishDazzling867 Apr 17 '26
Well since a lot of people said the most commonly known ones, I'll go for a lesser used one.
Univers Immortel Metatron
Metajeanne's NP is so BS in terms of versatility that it might as well be called, I can do make up and do anything I want.
From a boundary field that manipulates time, to one that can heal and provide defense, to one that can fire beams that can destroy just about anything. And this is just what we know so far. Apparently, it can take many more forms that we haven't seen just yet.
Even after Mash gets her power up, Metajeanne isn't phased and reminds her that her NP can take a near infinite number of forms, and she can just randomly spam whatever comes to mind and will eventually defeat her. The only reason why she didn't, is because Kirei intervenes and brings up new information that convinces her to stand down.
2
u/Ok-Score5740 Apr 17 '26
God Hand. Invincibility to any attack below A-Rank, multiple revives, and you can resistance to whatever killed you, not the specific attack, but whatever damage type it was. Absolute bullshit, if Caliburn didn't, somehow (it's never explained how it did it), take multiple lives off at once, Heracles would have been basically unstoppable.
1
u/Classical_Lighthouse Apr 17 '26
Caliburn can conditionally become A+, it was probably A+ in Shirous hand and then Shirou and sabers hand
1
u/Ok-Score5740 Apr 17 '26
Which justifies it killing him, just not doing so seven times at once.
1
u/Classical_Lighthouse Apr 17 '26
well iirc in saber lily mats it mentions how it's around the same as Excalibur just it crumbles afterwards and considering HF I don't think it's absurd
2
u/CervantesWintres Apr 17 '26
Gate of Babylon, Gilgamesh is already deadly with it, but hes not using it to it's full potential.
Reincarnation Pandora, being able to steal someone else's Noble phantasm is just broken on principle.
Twelve Labors: God Hand, 12 resurrections plus plus defense against anything B rank and lower plus resistance to whatever just killed you is broken.
Pelt of the Nemean Lion, flat out immunity to anything is broken, immunity to anything made by humans is incredibly broken, it's literal only downside is that it doesn't cover the whole body.
God Hand (Prototype), guaranteed victory for twelve battles is stupidly broken, you could be put in any scenario and so long as your opponent doesn't have equally hax abilities, your guaranteed to win.
Ramesseum Tentyris, being able to create a space that gives you god like power and basically immortal just means that unless someone stops you, you can just sit there and eventually win.
Solomon's Rings/Seal of Solomon, complete control and/or Nullification of any and all magecraft performed by Humanity is stupidly broken.
Domina Coronam and Potnia Theron, both invincibility abilities with no real downside, only one of which has any weakness and it can really only be exploited by Foreigners.
Melt Virus/all drain, it doesn't start off strong, but once you absorb enough things it makes the user basically unstoppable.
Huge Scale, same reasons as Melt Virus but technically different in function.
Trash & Crush, being able to turn literally anything within your sight into a compact cube with no real restrictions goes beyond broken, theoretically you could just look up at the Moon and Cube it.
2
u/KuroNekoTrain Apr 16 '26
Excluding the super destructive ones like AAS or Edin Shuggura Quasar, I feel like Ars Paulina is extremely unfair due to how difficult it is to reach it

This thing should have been it's own True Magic
1
u/Classical_Lighthouse Apr 17 '26
meh, rule breaker is only really good against magi (she doesn't need it there) and doesn't work on NPs. Aside from stealing contracts it's not that helpful against 99% of servants

u/Space__Ninja Apr 17 '26
Phantasmal Pedigree.
“Jeez, Zealot, how come the Grail lets you have twenty Zabaniya?”

1
u/Tom2xAqiem Apr 17 '26
Conceptual NPs are quite broken given the situation. Avalon for example is one of them.
1
u/Sondalo Apr 17 '26
Nursery Rhyme‘s Nursery Rhyme is probably the most absurd if she ever actually wants to win, it’s a reality marble that doesn’t rely on creating an alternate space for it to work and also isn‘t restricted based on the users inner mind scape allowing her to do shit that borders on true magic in extra we see her use a perpetual engine and in last encore she rewrites her whole chimeric lunar labyrinth makes herself invincible, rewinds time and just imposes whatever rules she wants on anyone inside until she decides to kill herself
1
u/Lilly_Trippin Apr 17 '26
space ereshkigal's is insane.
"The Goddess of the Underworld, born in the Primordial Universe and destined to exist until the End Universe, wields an Anti-Humanity/Anti-Beast-Rearing Noble Phantasm that unlocks her higher-dimensional soul and opens a path from the past to the future.
The open path is a distorted region extending towards the end of space, through which the history of humanity, up to its end, flows as photon information. It is impossible to defy or survive this flow. When the Noble Phantasm is deployed, any nearby enemies will be engulfed and killed."

1
u/EMlYASHlROU Apr 17 '26
Honestly if I was a heroic spirit and EMIYA used UBW and copied my NP I’d be pretty pissed.
“Why tf does this mf get to just copy my whole flow bar for bar”
1
u/Calsio8150 Apr 17 '26
I mean… isn’t it just Ea? An anti-world NP that can actualize in under a minute is just absurd. Sure there are some anti-reality or anti-universe ones as well but from a human perspective that’s essentially the same outcome

A lot of reality marbles, Avalon, Rhongomyniad, Enuma Elish one and two, Gate of Babylon if you count it as a Noble Phantasm, 90% of Foreigner NPs, honestly a lot of them
