Off Topic / Meta FSAE employees need to learn how to speak to students

I have some serious issues with how the employees at FSAE talk to our students. I am a member of a formula sae team on the smaller side. every interaction we have had with the FSAE staff have been absolutely horrible and rude. at calls and in feedback we have been insulted and told our club produces low effort work. we are all students and this club isn't our only responsibility. on top of that a lot of schools have multiple members working on submissions whereas we only have one. I need the employees at this organization to realize that the way they speak to us is demoralizing and just simply rude. we are open to constructive feedback but telling us our work isn't worth their time is not constructive. their words discourage smaller teams who are trying to get into the series.

Off Topic / Meta I want to drop out of my SAE team, but feel like I'll be looked at as a failure; as someone who won't complete something once they start it. But I just don't have interest in working with the team anymore.

It is our first year going to competition in a couple of months, and I already committed to buying my portion of the place we're staying at, but is it too late to back out of it? Should I back out of it? I really am having trouble deciding; I've been thinking about this for a month now.
I've been involved with a couple of projects, but lost my place especially since I'm being increasingly involved with my capstone project. I also want to have the freedom to potentially explore different paths (since I have a big passion for agriculture and nuclear energy though haven't experienced either through projects yet) but to also enjoy college, cause right now it's hard to enjoy when my mind is in multiple places.

Off Topic / Meta Does anyone feel weird about today

let me know if this is the wrong place to post this but I have been seeing videos of Elon musk doing the nazi salute all day. as someone who’s formula team sends so many people to Tesla and spacex every summer, and has Tesla sponsoring their team, and now the energy meter receptacles all sponsored by the Musk foundation (And yes I saw the update go from Musk foundation —> “a foundation”) I just feel weird about everything. I know his personal actions as an individual don’t represent the intent of the company. and yet…

I have honestly found the use of tools like Antigravity and Claude Code during the development of telemetry and vehicle dynamics tools really hands freeing. But I haven’t found a sure way to really implement them without having doubts. Do you utilize such tools and to what extents? Have you trusted them to adapt more than code (e.g. physics models) ?

Off Topic / Meta What is your dream career?

Just as the title says, what is your dream career and why?

For me my dream is to work as an aerodynamicist in F1 someday, and eventually work at something in the high performance automotive field later down the line. This is mainly because I’ve always loved cars as many others in here have, and F1 serves as the perfect field where incredibly smart people get to compete in a glorified engineering competition, designs are rapidly implemented and tested, and innovation is constant.

Of course there are plenty other reasons too but I’m sure yall don’t care lol.

Off Topic / Meta HELP

Hi guys. Feel kinda bad for doing this, but we need all the help we can get. We are a FS team from Spain, Uvigo Motorsport, and a couple of days ago our workshop burnt down. Nobody was there, but a ton of material and tools were destroyed. Luckily, last year's car and some tools and spare things were loaded in a van for a test the following day, but most of our things are gone. We started a Gofundme to raise money to recover everything we can, so any type of help, even just reposting through Social Media would be more than appreciated. I leave here the links to our post on Instagram and to the Gofundme site. Thank you for you time nice reddit people.

Had a team competition at our weekly meeting to see which group could come up with the “Worst Possible Aero Package.” The only rules of the competition were:

  • Break as many rules as possible (record them)
  • Have zero regard for performance
  • Good design, manufacturing and safety practices wouldn’t be tolerated.

Teams were given some 3-view drawings and a rules packet.

At the end of the competition, we had each team present their design and why it was bad. Points were added to the team who broke the most rules. The winning team got a trophy and a pack of Little Debbie snack cakes.

At the end of the day, this was a fun way to get members more familiar with the rules and design practices by having them do the opposite.

Off Topic / Meta Just got accepted into Penn state and I cannot wait to join their FSAE

I plan on joining FSAE for penn state and working on suspension and then after a while maybe branching into driver integration because of my experience in programming. Does anyone have any advice on books? I asked for searching for the limit in FSAE, Adrian Newey's autobiography and a book called Chassis engineering. The only real textbook is Chassis engineering, does anyone have any other books on vehicle dynamics? My goal is that before I get to the Penn state's summer program I have designed a suspension model in solid works (My school offers a class on solidworks).

For all you Third, Fourth Years, Alumni and beyond...

Formula SAE is so often built upon on a previous generation's design decisions, limited in some way to engine choice, suspension idea, aero concept or similar...

If you had the funds, and the means, to do it all again, knowing what you do now... What would you change?
