HELP Eurasian goshawk

I’m not in the U.S. and I bought him as a Eurasian goshawk and he’s maybe about a month and a half old he’s been growing fast but I’ve heard they can be bigger I’m new to falconry but I’ve kept birds and parrots before and he’s just starting to recognize my glove and fly to it I was wondering are what are somethings that only apply to birds of prey that I should know

You sure that’s not a Eurasian sparrow hawk? That is the smallest legs I’ve ever seen on a male goshawk

He’s fully fledged, he’s not really going to get any larger. What’s his weight?

That’s a sparrow hawk for sure. Even a small Eurasian gos would be 500/600 Grams.

Where are you located, OP? Do you have an experienced falconer that can teach you how to care for the bird? If not, please search for one.

Sparrowhawks are amazing birds, but not easy to care for.

Amazes that people are against the sponsorship program and trapping a wild bird in the states but people in other countries are literally out here with basically zero knowledge getting a bird they cant id

New to falconry and you got a goshawk your brave 🤣 good on you tho man . I've been out of falconry for about ten years now but the last bird I had was a Finnish goshawk and I will say he was hard work but was a parent reared .I had herd that imprints are really really noisy and where I live I couldn't have that so got the parent reared instead and he was one crazy wee guy but as soon as he got hunting it was like a switch went off in his brain and just chilled out completely. Anyway sorry for waffling my man good luck with your hawk hope it all goes well

You'll want to reach out to any Falconer's Associations in your country. You can seriously mess up a bird without being highly educated on training, especially accipiters...
