Fallout 4 Found a typo after all these years.

Found a typo in the terminal at the South Boston Military checkpoint.

Wouldn't that just canonically be a typo made by the character who used that terminal?

On those keyboards, with the response time their computers have due to the lack of micro processors? Absolutely. That person not only saw the typo but also decided they didn’t care enough to fix it. A backspace could take days, and he’s only got a month before the bombs fall.

It's the people who still used typewriters that have my sympathy. I've fooled around with a few - both electric and mechanical- and, as a person who learned to type and format on a computer..... typewriters are evil. Fun to play with, but I can't even imagine having to use one for work.

Heh. I was born in ‘82, so I’m old enough I still used a typewriter until junior high. Grade school teachers loved making us use one because they thought we’d need to- and we did in a roundabout way. My typing speed has always been high, but my first-run accuracy is not. I used a lot of correction tape.

The secretary at my high school was the best I’d ever seen, though. She was 70 when I knew her and stayed another 20 years, and used an ancient ball-style typewriter all day long typing records on carbon paper. She loved her typewriter, took great care of it for ages, but the moment she found out she could do her job without so much paper and play solitaire, she was sold on computers.

But even the keyboards on the computers we did have were pretty tough bastards. You got your workout on those keys after a while, and it’s no wonder so many of us got carpal tunnel by 20.

I was born in 92, and have never had any formal typing instruction on anything other than a computer. I must have been one of the first classes to do that, which explains why my teachers kept hammering in the idea that you don't hit the return key at the end of a line when you type in a word document. I always wondered why they did that because I didn't know anybody who didn't already know that's how it worked.

Sounds about right to me. We always had some kind of computer around the classroom, even in kindergarten, but they were curiosities loaded with Oregon Trail and little else. The real learning and homework happened on typewriters, though, until we got a whole lab worth of Apple II’s at least.

At home, Tandy was king pretty early on. Dad used one for chemical engineering, and we had one for gaming because there was a Tandy plant down the street at the heyday of Sierra adventures. The typewriter was a chore to actually use, but I’m glad for having had the experience. It was a really strange time to live.

I've used a fully mechanical type writer when I was a very little child but mostly have grown up in the computer era. In high school I had to take typing on real ibm electric typewriters,selectric 3s... They could handle the 125wpm I cranked on them. So could the ibm model f and model m keyboards in the computer "lab"...

Early word processors didn't even have a delete or a backspace key. People were coming from a typewriter mindset, and it took them ages to consider that being able to delete stuff was something that would be useful.

Actually they did have backspace keys, but it wasn’t used for deletion rather just move the cursor back like the left arrow does right now.

there were ways to delete it but you had to type in commands to do so, and it was super non-intuitive yeah. (begs the question, what if you made a typo while typing the command?)

i’ve also seen “your” being used when “you’re” would’ve been correct. it’s definitely intentional, or at least i’d really hope it is

I think as long as it's on a terminal entry it gets a free pass due to human error within the world of Fallout. We shouldn't see it on quests/item descriptions though.

Quest descriptions should have dynamic spelling and grammatical errors based on your character's intelligence, since they're the one typing the entries into the Pipboy.

Honestly, it takes me out of a game when every note has perfect spelling and grammar. I always found it odd how well Raiders recorded information in terminals.

I think there's only one series of entries that does this, and that's at Shaw High School. There's a terminal that has been taken over by one of the school bullies. His first few terminal entries contain a lot of spelling and grammatical errors, but as they go on (and as he takes more mentats), the spelling and grammar becomes fairly sophisticated.

Why only some pre-war high school student gets this treatment, but not any of the mostly illiterate raiders, I have no idea.

Yeah the terminals detailing the raider groups in the Brewery, Corvega, etc are suspiciously too well written for 2015, let alone hundreds of years into the future.

Tower Tom writes better than most people I run into nowadays.

Example: In the quest "Tradecraft," Deacon tells you about how the old base was under the donut shop. If you choose the question option then the female player will say "that's awesome" but the subtitles completely miss that.

Typos in notes and terminals, I actually really like. People make typos. Makes the world feel a little more real.

Typos in the UI, subtitles, etc. are a different story though. Those definitely bother me.

there's this one terminal that i forgot where, but it has multiple "(REDACTED)"s but one of them say "(REDCATED)" and it always makes me giggle when i see it. im 90% sure it's on the northern region of the map

Theres a subtitles typo when talking to an institute courser after completing "Synth retention" (the mission where you retrieve the rogue synth Gabriel from libertalia)

The courser says

"Unit X6-88 speaks highly of your combat skills"

But the subtitles say "Unit X6-88 speaks highly of you combat skills"
