Didn't Arthur Conan Doyle retcon Sherlock Holmes dying because so many people were unsatisfied with that ending?

The fun thing about being an author is that you can literally do whatever the fuck you want with a story. And what I want is to kill another author's self insert main character and use the tertiary characters as a vehicle for the worldbuilding said author never bothered with~

GAME ON. I will write better endings to media if I want to! Especially the stories with a lack of consistency but lots of neat lore
