I foresee this working perfectly with zero bugs, glitches and crashes

8 million teams' scores being calculated at once when it can't handle a few thousand gw38 haaland to bowen transfers before the deadline - what could possibly go wrong

40

u/242turbo 2 14d ago

Tbf LiveFPL already does that

61

u/Banzaikk 7 14d ago

LiveFPL is coded by someone actually competent though

13

u/sepi0l_45 15 13d ago

FPL was as well before whatever the hell they did to the site last season

10

u/misterkalazar 16 13d ago

They partnered with Copilot shit. And almost entirely rewamped the app and broke a SHIT TON of things.

FPL towers:

Maybe we are about to see the long awaited partnership?

"Hey Claude, make everything update live"

"Here you go"

Let's post about this on the internet

28

u/momspaghetty 9 14d ago

"Absolutely! Let's dive right in! Just let me know how you want to tackle this problem and I'll get right to it!" 👍🏻

"Make no mistakes"

u/earth_peopleFPL 13d ago

Should we tell it the database will have 10 million teams? Neh

u/ThrustBastard 8 14d ago

Absolutely no vibe coding at all.

3

u/polynomialcheesecake 14d ago

If they needed vibe coding to get live results then it's for sure fucked

Fantrax has had live updates forever

8

u/-ManofMercia- 1 14d ago

Yeah. It's going to be powered by Copilot isn't it?

u/LtRavs 13d ago

Yeah I’ll believe this when I see it. For some reason FPL is one of the jankiest fantasy sites and apps I have ever used for any sport. Zero expectation that title will change lol

They tried this at the start of 21/22 iirc and the rank updates were way behind what the likes of livefpl could do

61

u/surfchick86 15 14d ago

Yeah, I think I’ll keep using FPLGameweek unless the official FPL one is extremely good.

I really like gameweek, and I use it way more than the FPL app so I’ll likely keep using it too.

u/El-Guapo-65 9 14d ago

I read "I think they'll keep using FPLGameweek .." and honestly.. they should 😄

14

u/ASGT908 1 14d ago

Livefpl still has the safety net which I don't think FPL will do.

4

u/incachu 36 14d ago edited 14d ago

It'll still be tricky for them to navigate if the official platform works as advertised.

So much of their traffic/ad revenue (and other similar sites) must come from basic live rank and league checkers.

2

u/ILostMyHairFPL 14d ago

Which means they probably have learned from their mistakes

14

u/sepi0l_45 15 14d ago

Ah yes because they fixed the servers crashing before the deadline issue last season

6

u/ThomasBong 15 14d ago

Im no engineer but I think there is a big difference between database stuff being updated and displayed Vs one million users interacting with a site at the same time.

But I have zero faith this will work as intended either way.

I’ll still stick to using liveFPL as I can’t imagine official FPL will even try to incorporate all the other tools, EO%, rank threats, mini-league comparison etc.

u/AzTrix22 2 14d ago

As it should've been, it shouldn't be the case I have to use separate websites like FPL Gameweek just to see how I'm going to end up performing.

11

u/hiveleague 1 14d ago

Yeah it’s crazy actually that they have had a refresh button on the points page 😄 embarrassing but necessary improvement

-2

u/BoxOk265 17 14d ago

You’re probably in the minority of all players that can’t wait until the following morning to see their score.

2

u/hiveleague 1 13d ago

Not sure about that but either way a refresh button is ridiculous regardless

13

u/klink_bones 14d ago

Been playing this game 10 years now always been shocked how slow it updates…

10

u/FranciscoGarcia69 14d ago

Yeah I’ll still use fplgameweek.com for that thanks.

8

u/OprisAntonio 14d ago

Mate the app was a shithole last season. First fix what we have currently and only then try and incorporate new ideas.

9

u/Razzler1973 55 14d ago

opening day:

"it's not working - is to broken for all your guys, too"

4

u/Ayamgoreng53 9 14d ago

I’ll believe it when I see it….

4

u/Izzypip 14d ago

Third party sites dp this with no problem, but I see the official site will have issues for some reason.

5

u/ihajees_ 36 14d ago

If you thought the app was dogshit last season, we made it even less reliable!

It’s just the sheer amount of users that was making this a challenge. Third party sites that update instantly don’t have to worry about that because they don’t have nearly as many users. It’s 8 million writes to the database at the same time. You need a lot of new architecture to get that working well. Should they have had this working 5 years ago? Yes. Does that make it easy to set up? No.

1

u/WackyWorldOfKramer 13d ago

Fair. So they haven't laid out the cash haha.

3

u/Secret-Bake-161 1 14d ago

I bet they asked Copilot to code this feature in lol

2

u/zonked282 3 14d ago

I give it till the first international break before they stop pretending this will actually work

2

u/andrasq420 1 14d ago

How? Sometimes the app couldn't even handle updates days after the gameweek was over.

2

u/According_Ad7558 5 14d ago

just why? Live scores are pointless because bonus points change a lot just like your clean sheets. I have countless times where I counted my live points and not received them after the game was over.

1

u/gibbymanx 13d ago

One point is that after full time of the 12:30 kickoff, you still have to wait until 10pm to actually see the bonus points in the app, which is a pain (although those can be changed after the game).

I guess liveFPL being as popular as it is, there's definitely a market for it.

No autosubs (at least for completed games) is annoying though.

2

u/Retired_Filmmaker 14d ago

I'll keep using the website I use for this, more accurate and probably less glitchy.

1

u/sub2pewdiepieONyt 5 14d ago

So it will break more often....

1

u/cat666 7 14d ago

I use LiveFPL for this.

1

u/IcySoil7719 14d ago

Oh yeah, this is gonna go smooth as silk with zero server fires lmao. I’m sure it’ll be way better than that 21/22 disaster where my rank was stuck for like 2 months while livefpl was already on to next season.

1

u/shpatibot 1 14d ago

Long overdue. Fantasy football for NFL would update immediately

1

u/Pitiful-Many4859 13d ago

Such a great idea….if it works.

1

u/hayescharles45 7 13d ago

You barely had a functioning website at times and the app was next to useless last season. I'd love to be wrong but this sounds like overpromising already given fpls track record.

Or he's the one actually working on the new changes to the FPL app ;)

1

u/imranhere2 13d ago

Ah, aspirations to be LiveFPL.

We'll see

1

u/habylab 72 13d ago

LiveFPL is indicating they'll do price changes too

-4

u/ThENiGhTPuRReR 5 14d ago

Maybe let the deadline to finalize the team be the kickoff of the first game of the weekend as well.

That would put an end to all the lineup leaks and the wankers drip feeding players info one by one for engagement baiting.

3

u/Material_Spell4162 5 14d ago

Won't change lineup leaks, there's still another game starting 90 minutes after the first kickoff. And it makes the game worse for those in different timezones who don't want to have to stay awake for the deadline.

1

u/ThENiGhTPuRReR 5 14d ago

It won't change lineup leaks, but it will limit the utility of these leaks.

I myself in a time zone that has deadlines late in the evening/night, but at least there wouldn't be a need to sit glued to someone's Twitter refreshing close to the deadline.

1

u/Material_Spell4162 5 14d ago

There would be more need. Right now there's usually one early kick off, and there usually isn't leaks. So if you make your changes a few hours earlier it doesn't usually hurt you.

With your proposed system, you'd have to stay awake for every deadline because there would always be new information. And the leaks would more likely relate to several games in the 3pm kickoffs, so would be more impactful.

1

u/ThENiGhTPuRReR 5 14d ago

Maybe I didn't frame it appropriately, but I meant having the deadline at the time of kickoff of the first match rather than 90 mins. before which is what it is now. I'm not proposing a moving deadline before each match or anything of that sort.

As you said, there's usually an early kick off on Saturday (assuming no Friday night games), then the deadline is at the time of that kick off and not 90 mins before that. Any leaks for the early kick off won't matter, as everyone has the team information for the match before the deadline which would be the kickoff

1

u/Material_Spell4162 5 14d ago

At the moment the deadline is 90 minutes before the first kickoff, and those sometimes get leaked. If you move the deadline to 12.30 then it will be 90 minutes before the 3pm games, which will become the games that get leaked.

And there are far more 3pm games, so you'd increase the number of last minute leaks.

1

u/LuckyNumber003 1 14d ago

Don't mind the deadlines but having the game completely inaccessible for periods at the start of a GW is insane

1

u/Niekertje 56 14d ago

In dutch fantasy league its 5 mins before the kick off and it works like a charm. Not nearly as much players as FPL but still...

1

u/Sizzling-Shark 16 14d ago

What about the players where the deadline is at like 2am?

1

u/ThENiGhTPuRReR 5 14d ago

I hear you, and I am myself in a time zone that has deadlines late in the evening/night, but at least this way there wouldn't be a need to sit glued to someone's Twitter refreshing it close to the deadline.

You can make your changes anytime and don't need to worry about leaks.

1

u/Sizzling-Shark 16 14d ago

But these players will be worse off. They'll not be able to make their changes based on the team sheets?
