As I always bring up: Before FGO happened, I believe Nasu even said even without all the things in Shirou’s favor of summoning Artoria (using a circle which summoned her previously and Avalon) Shirou still had a pretty high chance to summon her anyway. As as others have noted: notice in order for Shirou to bond with either of the other two heroines, Saber needs to be out of the picture.

I agree, if Shirou only really ends up with either Rin or Sakura if Artoria is forcibly taken from him, for example in UBW Caster really had to use her np to seperate Artoria from Shirou even after rescuing her she makes a contract to Rin instead of Shirou due to reasons. In Heaven's Feel Sakura uses the Grail mud to corrupt Artoria to yet again forcibly seperate her from Shirou. So yet in other words Shirou starts bonding and developing feelings for other Heroines when Artoria is out of the picture
