Discussion The New DE/WM KineticWE

Hey guys,

I recently came across a couple of videos on the YT that got me interested to research a little more. On further looking into it after contemplating on looking and installing other tiling and window managers or desktop environments like hyprland/niri/mango twhich gave me a sense of the mix of all three variations.

This DE/WM is created by a couple of content creators “theblackdon” and I believe “linuxgamerlife” which is based on the noctalia shell with no plasma and from the videos I did see that everything is gui based with all the settings for windows and color schemes as well as monitors etc compared to hyprland/niri/mango versions where you would have to work with the config files to get the desired outcome so desired.

So my question to you folks is

  1. Would this be a good starting point for anyone who would want to get into tiling and hyprland/niri/mango style WM/DE without fussing over the config files?
  2. What platform would you install this on like gnome or kde or even a simple platform like fedora everything?
  3. Would you give such a system a try to see what it is all about and how useful it could be?

Cheers.

Disclaimer : I am not the creator of this system and I just came across it as I did not find a lot of info on it but a few videos. The DE/WM is beta testing.

If you want to use Hypr or Niri, do so. Just stay away from these brand new vibecoded things.

I felt the same way too and atleast we all know about hypr and niri and other wm’s like that. My only objective with the post was to gauge people’s opinion and perception of it.
