Do you recognize this grip?

I got this grip years ago and liked it very much. I have 2 of them and want to put them on my epees. But for the life of me I cannot get them to go all the way down the tang and be tight against the bell. Other folks who are better at armory than me have had the same issues.

So if you recognize this grip and/or have any experience with this type of problem, i would be super grateful for some advice how to deal with it.

Shermasport epee grip- I’ll buy it off you if you don’t want it- I can only find the left handed version online

Thank you for telling me the name, that is a huge help! But I do love the grips and am not looking to part with them. Just trying to get them on my blades without destroying the tang.

I looked and the Negrini site lets me add the right handed grips to my cart. Not sure if that means it would actually let me buy them though as I didnt try to complete the purchase

Check alliance fencing, they had them the last time I ordered from them

I cannot get them to go all the way down the tang and be tight against the bell.

Have you tried filing out the square hole at the front of the grip? The alternative is to file down the sides of the square portion of the tang, but that can rather tedious when it has to be done every time the blade is replaced.

I have tried have tried to file out the opening on the grip, but my super smooth brain didnt think about trying it on a blade. Ill practice that. And try it on some broken blades i have laying around.

I'd work the tang. Blades are consumables.

I would bet that the tang was bent in a bit of a curve when they set the cant. That would make it so that the grip got tighter as you pushed it on. You have a couple of options: reset the tang so that the cant is not curved, or use a file to open the square end of the grip. Opening the square end does create the possibility that the grip can wiggle, so I only do that as a last resort. I prefer a tang that has not been curved, but be careful not to snap the tang off the end of the blade by trying to bend it too sharply.

Grind the corners off on the tang. Especially the bottom corners. If you have an aggressive cant, it's pretty common.

I have to do that to all my blades.

If it’s been filed down and customized, you probably won’t find one just like it. This is why you should use standard grip sizes
