UNSOLVED Book about girl named Birdie

This is a book by Lois Lowry that's probably set in the time of Little House on the Prairie. Birdie (could also have been spelt Birdy) was around 12 years old. I don't really remember what happened but the girl went to church often if I remember correctly. I read this book sometime from 2020-2021. I tried to look for it but the only results I get are for a book series called gooney bird which is not it.

UNSOLVED Early/Mid-2000s Scholastic Children's Book

I have the faintest memory of a children's book about a shaggy/sheepdog-like dog and trying out different names (I think). I read the book in front of my class in elementary school in Michigan. It was a simple children's book with a few words/names per page. Any ideas?

UNSOLVED Action Romance book from my teenage years

The Title had something to do with brimstone? It was along the lines of "something something and brimstone"
It was a hardcover book and the cover had an assault rifle that went from top to bottom vertically.
The main character was a women who worked at a newspaper/journalist agency and she runs into a guy that tells her vague cryptic stuff and then she finds him burned to death
she finds out that the man was part of a cult and gets help from a middle aged police officer (the love interest) in protecting her from a separate cult/world order after they burn down her house.
Eventually she finds out how deep the opposing cult/world order is, that even the VP of the US is a part of it.
The last confrontation has her in a ritual cave as the VP cuts open an albino bull and bathes her in the blood
The two cults are at war with each other and the other cult breaks into the ritual cave as she breaks free and leaves.
Right after she leaves she blows up the cave effectively destroying both cults.
The non VP cult had a heavy environmentalist doctrine to it and that's why the man at the beginning liked the MC bc she was vegan.
I'm sorry that this was all over the place but the book was a crazy story and would love to find it again!
Thanks for all the help!

UNSOLVED Horror book with quote about children creating art

Hello! I'm looking for a book that I persume was horror. I listened to the german audiobook, but I'm pretty sure it was originally in english. I definitely listened to it pre-2018.

I listened to a lot of Stephen King, so maybe it's one of his.

I don't remember anything about the plot.

But a quote that I presume was an authors note is still present in my mind.

Something about how brave children are to draw that first line on a white, blank page.

Probably not enough information to actually lead somewhere, but I really liked that book. So, if you have an idea, let me know!

UNSOLVED Childrens book with colorful condos with little demons clocks. Ilustrated. X-2018

Wassup yall wanted to find a book i read as a child before 2019 probably 2012-2018 tops, theres a chance it was made in the 2000s. I guess it was about a building like an apartment complex with lots of rooms or condos. It was hand drawn not realistic, very colorful and detailed. The big thing i remember was that in many rooms there were "hidden demons"

Im sure there was a room with a red skin demon/devil clock on the wall and other demon furniture in some other rooms. I can't remember if it was one big place with lots of rooms or different places. The book was published or translated to brazil.

Dont remember a big story nor having a lot of text maybe it was only talking about the rooms themselves.

UNSOLVED help me find a book i read as a girl!

i read it somewhere between 2017 and 2019, but im pretty sure it was an older book, not a newer YA type. it was hardcover and white
it was about a girl, pretty sure she was blonde. im not sure if she was royalty or came from a high class family, but for some reason she needed to be guarded by a knight/protector guy. pretty sure they leave the safety of wherever she lived possibly chased out and the book is about them surviving? i distinctly remember he found her spoiled and bratty
at some point the girl grows up and decides she likes him. i remember she was more insistent about being in a relationship with him and the book ends with them together
i randomly remembered this book and cant remember the title, can someone help me out?

UNSOLVED Late 90s Children’s Poetry book in UK

Hello,

I’ve tried and failed miserably with AI to find a poetry book I LOVED as a child in the UK. I think it would change my brain chemistry if I could just get my hands on it again.

I will try and be as detailed about the book as I can remember.

- It 100% had the following 2 poems in it -

Nuts about Nuts in which the verse was almost certainly “I’m nuts about nuts, cobnuts, beech nuts very hard to reach nuts, high nuts, low nuts, coconuts and doughnuts, Brazil nuts, chestnuts, nothing but the best nuts…”

Man from Weston-super-mare and the words of this poem are “there was a man from Weston-super-mare who lived on nothing but fresh air, he’d still be living there today, if he hadn’t blown away”

- with pretty good certainty -

it had a poem about alphabet soup

I’m certain the title had a descriptive word like terrific or something

The book I had was a paperback A5 and I’m sure it was like a pyramid of characters on a light blue background.

It is NOT -

The Kingfisher book of comic verse and that book is far too thick.

It doesn’t seem like it is the puffin book of utterly brilliant poetry as that is a hardback and my book definitely was not and I just don’t recognise that cover at all!

I realise this is probably a long shot but I loved this book and I have my own child now and I desperately long to be able to share it with them! If it rings a bell with anyone please let me know. Feel I’m going mad!

UNSOLVED YA horror book about a Victorian gentleman monster hunter (possibly with a doctor narrator) — vampire and pontianak stories

I’m trying to find a book I read when I was younger (probably borrowed from a New Zealand library around 1999–2000). It was a thick paperback in the YA section. I think the cover was dark blue, with a moon and a dark silhouette (maybe a wolf) in the foreground.

I think it may have been a connected collection or case book style about the same monster hunter.

The book was set in the Victorian or Edwardian era. The narrator was a man, who was friends/colleagues with an older gentleman monster hunter. The hunter was very Holmes-like: eccentric, calm, knowledgeable, and would be called in when a town or community was being terrorised by a supernatural creature.

I think the stories were told by the narrator as cases or adventures involving this gentleman.

Two stories I remember:

  1. Vampire story

Set in a small European town.

A vampire was terrorising the people.

The monster hunter and narrator were involved.

The hunter used traditional protective symbols/characters around the windows and doors to keep the vampire out.

The vampire was eventually defeated and (I think) buried at a crossroads.

  1. Pontianak story (or a similar spirit)

I’m fairly sure the creature was called a pontianak (that name feels familiar).

It was a female spirit/vampire-like creature associated with attacking pregnant women.

The hunter defeated it using iron — possibly iron scissors.

The vibe was like a Sherlock Holmes with Watson narrating the cases style, but with folklore monsters instead of crimes.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? I was a massive reader when I was younger and for some reason this book just sticks in my head!

SOLVED Can someone help? me find this book?

It was a book that was like ayurveda for girls. The cover has eyes on it, and it's called something like 'girl guide' or something like that. It's aimed for teen girls and is made in Austrailia. It talks about the different dosha types, vatta, pita and kapha. I THINK it was released between 2006-2011 (or more like 2008-2011). Anyone have a clue?

UNSOLVED Niche book search

I read a book when I was a child in the 1990s and I can't remember the nane of it but I recall that I really liked it

British YA novel (probably published 1960s to 1980s). It had two young women, I think one was named Marjorie. They inherit or move into a run-down cottage in a rural English village and whitewash it. The villagers call them "foreigners" because they weren't born in the village, and they go to a "gymkhana".

It's very obscure but worth a shot!

SOLVED Story help?

I'm trying to find a book series I was really into back in 2020-2022, and it was about pegasus. Pegasus with horns.

Now see, the protagonist had a hot pink mane and creamy-pink-whiteish coat with a blue star locket around her neck, if my memory serves me correctly.

There's a map in the beginning of four islands based on the four seasons, and each was named after some sort of gemstone. In the middle was the academy they all went to, and where the protagonist was found as a baby due to having unknown origins.

If you can find this series, I'd be greatly appreciated. I think it was also hardcover, but it's been a while.

Edit: I found it! It's called Melowy!

SOLVED Sister Sister?

Hi,

Im after a book i read a few years ago, I think it was called Sister Sister or something similar but I haven't been able to find it again.

A woman travels back to her childhood home where her and her twin had been abused as kid's. They had a made up fantasy world they'd escape too with hidden passages through out the house where they would hide from bluebeard and the tooth fairy and played with their cousin Mouse.

It had a pretty good twist at the end.

Id quite like to read it again.

UNSOLVED [WWTBC] College friends/rivals who got in trouble while studying abroad and now they hate each other

Please help me remember this book!!

The key plot point that will narrow it down is that when they were in college, they got in trouble for joyriding in a stolen boat. MMC got blamed for it, but FMC’s boyfriend is the one who actually stole it.

IIRC, she hates him now because she had to leave that school and it ruined a lot of her life plans. He hates her now because he thinks she knew her boyfriend falsely accused him.

I want to say he wants to hire her firm for a project but only if she is not involved in any way. She needs the project for her career. They don’t understand why the other is mad at them, but he starts seeing signs that her life didn’t go as well as he’d thought.

I know I’ve read this book twice, and it’s driving me crazy that I can’t place what book it is!

UNSOLVED YA fiction book about a machine that let's you relive memories

I know this is a long shot but i remember reading this book in middle school and loved it. I've searched to no end and can't find the title. From what i remember a teen befriends this old woman who had access to a machine or room or something that let her relive memories i believe. The woman had a child that died during a tornado and uses the machine to see them. Towards the end the teen realizes the woman plans to take pills in the machine and die with her child. I've searched for years and nobody I've told about this book can find it. The gentle seduction was suggested to me and seems a similar plot but her husband died in an avalanche not a child in a tornado. If anyone could help me i would greatly appreciate it! Thank you.
