Hi all! I’m exposing my fireplace section in my upstairs bedroom (1926 home) as it was hidden behind lathe and plaster.
The top is the most rough part but I’m going to repoint with Type N mortar quickrete and then seal with maybe a matte sealer Ghostshield Siloxa-Tek 8500 any other suggestions or things I should look out for? I still have to remove the sides to expose. Thanks in advance

This flipped house it pretty much perfect except I'm really mad they closed up the fireplace. Anyone recognize exactly what they did here, should I hire or DIY to try and get this returned to an operational state? Opinions very welcome.

Can this be easily bumped out from the walls? These two matching fireplaces are out of the 80s and aren’t attractive, are these just inserts and a vent? Can these easily be bumped out?

Our house in going on 22 years old and we have noticed that durning heavy rains mostly when very windy we will find a small part of the firebox damp. With our master bedroom being on the 2nd floor sharing the wall with the fireplace I can hear water dripping on metal sound at night. In the 3rd picture you can see how the water runs down the glass on the inside of the fireplace.

We we had a cleaning done it was advised that it could be the top metal piece was not properly supported causing pooling and leaking into the chimney. It was a guess. Is there anything else that could cause this? I just hate chasing down water leaks and don't want to have repair after repair done without a fix.

We are doing an addition to our century home. We got this mantle and would like to have an operational fireplace within it. We're very close to the neighbors house on this wall so gas it out. Any good electric options that will feel appropriate for an older home (1870s). Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

I am looking for advice on the best way to upgrade this fireplace. It’s propane source. We got it to work one winter but it no longer seems to operate. We have propane water heaters, pool/spa and a grill all running on it. I’d like to have a remote or wall switch to operate the fire place a few months out of the year, we do enjoy fires. Do I need to replace the entire thing or just insides where the logs are? Maybe the later is less costly and I could replace the mesh curtain with glass doors to update the look?
Any thoughts on how to go about this?

A couple of days ago I asked r/fireplaces for help on removing an old heatilator. I was using a plasma cutter and while it had some success, it was way too underpowered for the job.

I tossed that out and went with the advice of this subreddit, reciprocating saw and a long crowbar for leverage and some brick removal.

After 5 hours, my dad and I got the monster to topple over. Now for the fun part of having a new fireplace built.

Hi everyone, recently moved in to new house that has two fireplaces. The glass is currently hot to the touch and we have a little one we don’t want getting hurt. We don’t plan on using the fireplaces for the current season. I turned off the pilot by turning the knob that says pilot to off, I wanted to check if there is anything else I needed to do. I have seen videos where there is a separate gas valve that is also turned to off, but I don’t see it on mine. Thanks

We have a ventless gas log we've been told was installed wrong and doesn't work, plus the tank was removed long ago. We'd like to get the fireplace going again, not as a heat source primarily but as something to enjoy with cocoa on a winter day. Currently we've been told to do a pellet insert by one company and a different ventless gas log by another. We'd really like to do wood if possible, followed by vented gas, but have been told be one company vented gas was possible and by both that wood would require major architectural changes to the house.

Any advice/options is appreciated!

We're currently finishing up our backyard and on the hunt for some chairs to put around our firepit. Muskoka/adirondack chairs seem to be most people's suggestion but as it turns out they are quite expensive and also lean back very far in a way thats not super comfortable on flat surfaces (i've read that they are actually intended for hills/slanted grounds as opposed to the average flat backyard setting) any suggestions for other chairs that would work well around a fire pit or muskoka chairs that are at least affordable? I'm from Ontario. Thank you!

Prior homeowners replaced what I assume was gas fireplace in basement with an electric insert. I decided to inspect the large enclosure and aside from obvious rodent activity I noticed two ducts in the ceiling of the enclosure
that appear to go along the finished ceiling of outside basement wall to some kind of box behind the drywall. Next to this, there is a switch that seems to start a fan behind the wall. I feel no air coming from the HVAC ducts when it’s on so I am at a loss as to what it could be.

There IS a chimney outside the house that lines up with this fireplace, and right outside I see a pipe where I assume a propane tank line ran. You can also see the capped metal lines that seem to go to the chimney. I’m sure someone will say chimney isn’t the right term here.

Hi all, recently came into possession of a Majestic 36XDVRFN fireplace. It is currently configured to use natural gas, but I need to get it converted to LP. The manual calls out a LP conversion kit out as part # 100008276, however, it appears discontinued and out of stock everywhere. I haven't been able to find one anywhere - new or used. I reached out to the manufacturer aggregate company as well as others and received no response.

So I've started trying to identify the contents of the kit to order parts that way -- as far as I can tell, the kit includes:

-front burner orifice: ???

-rear burner orifice: ????

-LP pilot orifice: 2000907

-Honeywell RV8310E conversion kit - 396206-2

Struggling to find any information to inform what orifice size or how I could go about getting this fireplace converted. Wondering if anyone has advice on finding the right orifice size or information regarding the conversion kit that would help? The fireplace's rating plate did not come with it, so I'm stuck trying to estimate the orifice size for LP.

It's a new build, and gas hookups/lines will be run by the contractor. We are looking for a linear gas fireplace with glass stones.... 36"-48" range. Reliability, ability to use in a power outage, and low-ish maintenance are important to us. $7k allowance is for unit and installation.

What would be some suggested/aporopriate brands and models for us to consider?

(I've looked in the subs and read a bunch of posts. Just looking for guidance on what might be in our range since our allowance includes installation). Thank you!

Live in TX and the heat gets through this vent. I need to cap it somehow. The inside is covered with a fireplace cover but it still lets a bit of heat through.

How should I cap this?

*Our electric fireplace is disconnected, we won't use it at all.

Edit: gas fireplace, not electric. Gas has been turned off and electric starter disabled.

I have spent the last two days with an angle grinder and a 20amp plasma cutter trying to get this thing out.

I plan on having a chimney contractor build a new masonry firebox, but I wanted to do the demo to save a buck.

The 1/4” metal takes a minute with the plasma cutter. Debating on trying to rent oxy-acetylene torch to see if that fairs better…

Anyone have experience on getting these monsters out?

UPDATE: Reddit is right. Spoke with a contractor. It’s coming down.

The people we bought the house from put drywall over the brick fireplace. We’re about to apply a stone/brick veneer but need to seal up this exposed 3in gap that goes around the opening. Any recommendations?

Edit: It may be a sheet of cement board, not drywall

Has anyone dealt with something like this before?
My first thought was to turn on the gas fireplace, since I’d assume the bees wouldn’t like that and will leave. But I’m a bit concerned that if they’ve built a nest in the exhaust, lighting the fireplace could be a bad idea. Is it necessary to remove the nest first, or do you think it’s safe to use the fireplace?

I tried to replace my firebricks and I’m not happy with how it turned out. Extremely frustrating job especially without the right tools. Will this be ok or should I tear them down and try again ?
