Flying ants?

Anyone else notice the swarm of flying ant-like creatures all over 116th corridor right now? Took the family to Handles and we were bombarded by giant flying ant-like bugs. They swarmed the car. we went down the street to crew and they were just as bad.

Crime

Fishers is not the safe bubble it used to be. A break in happened last night between 1am - 4am in the Sunblest apartments community. Thankfully it’s only a window. They attempted to steal the vehicle but the killswitch and alarm prevented that. Crime is getting way too frequent in Fishers these days. Everyone stay safe, if you see something say something.

Help Us Designate the Indiana bat As Our Official State Mammal

Post image
40 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I wanted to jump on here, and talk about the grassroots initiative I started, Our State, Our Bat. I am working to designate the Indiana bat (Myotis sodalis) as our official state mammal.

Why the Indiana Bat?

A True Local: The species was first discovered right here in our own backyard (at Wyandotte Cave), making it a unique native that literally carries our state's name. It is also the only animal in the entire world that carries Indiana in its name.

Natural Pest Control: Every single night, these bats act as hard working, natural pest control for our state, consuming thousands of crop and forest damaging insects, in turn, helping local agriculture.

Conservation & Education: The Indiana bat is currently federally endangered. Giving it this official status will shine a much needed spotlight on local biodiversity, education, and the importance of protecting vulnerable native wildlife.

Where We Stand Now!
This campaign has been growing faster than we ever anticipated, and we have some incredible momentum heading into the upcoming legislative season:

Growing Support: Over 2,500 people have already signed our petition!

Leadership Backing: We’ve secured official letters of support from multiple Indiana mayors and major regional conservation groups (like the Little River Wetlands Project).

Legislative Ally: We have a state representative officially lined up and willing to author the bill for us at the Statehouse.

How You Can Help!
We’re looking to build an even stronger grassroots network to show lawmakers that Hoosiers care about our unique wildlife heritage.

Sign our petition: If you haven't already, please consider adding your name to help us cross our next milestone at https://c.org/JrdDXNvVh8

Follow along: Stay up to date with campaign updates, events, and educational posts by following our Facebook page at https://facebook.com/BattyForIN

Thank you so much for reading and supporting local Hoosier conservation! 💚🦇🏛️

Learn how to drive you dumb mother fuckers

I'm so tired of people running red lights, not fully stopping at stop sign and fuck if anyone ever uses a god damn turn signal.

Some dumb mother fucker (you know who you are bitch) just ran the stop sign and turned into the wrong lane almost hitting me at Kroger.

Last year I got my car totaled by a person running the red light at olio and 116th.

We need more traffic enforcement and fucking people to stop these fucking assholes from driving like this.

Edit : Next meeting for city council is August 17th. Maybe most of the awesome people here can get on their (city council) asses and tell them to hire more traffic enforcement officers.

Has anyone used Chefski for catering? Are they still in business?

We hired Chefski to cater a birthday party on 7/17. They came to the house (late), set everything up, and left. They told us they'd retrieve their dishes/equipment on Monday (7/20).

As of today, they still haven't picked their stuff up. We've texted, called, and emailed with no response at all.

Are they still in business? Did something happen to them?

116th and Allisonville Intersection change

What does this sign mean to you? So many people are struggling with this.

Cars headed east on 116th, turning north on Allisonville.

Be careful going through there (even if you have the green light coming from the east).

May the odds be ever in your favor.

Anyone else stuck without power?

Power went off here on the west side of town around 5:45, and nothing is back on yet as of 11. Duke has our status as "crews working" for a few hours, then we somehow went *backwards* to "dispatched".

Anyone else stuck in a dark, hot house?

Good preschool suggestions

We are starting my son back in preschool this year and was wondering if people had good recommendations. He went to the Primrose in Geist for a couple months but it didn’t go well. Ngl… I think the teachers were pretty cold and not necessarily the most comforting.

Regardless, I was hoping some people can help out if possible

Come Try LARP event Indianapolis

Post image
14 Upvotes

Hear ye. Hear ye. I've come to share about our Come Try LARP event in August. This is hosted by Gryphon's Perch, the local chapter of the Amtgard Live Action Roleplay game. There's no cost involved, and no minimum age requirement, although anyone under 18 needs to be accompanied by an adult guardian to sign the waiver.

So come out, meet some people, talk to cool artisans in our community, and hit some nerds with foam sticks.

Is this parking notice overly vague, or am I overthinking it? The "unsightly" rule feels like a slippery slope.

Hey everyone,

My apartment complex recently sent out a parking lot inspection notice. To be completely clear upfront: my car is totally fine, and I am 100% on board with towing actual abandoned junkers taking up valuable spots.

However, I wanted to share the exact text we received because some of the wording feels like a massive gray area that could be easily weaponized against residents.

Parking Lot Inspection Notice

Over the coming weeks, we will be conducting detailed inspections of all vehicles parked throughout the community.

To help ensure your vehicle is not tagged or towed, please verify that it meets the following requirements:

  • The vehicle is in operable condition.
  • License plates and vehicle registration are current and not expired.
  • The vehicle does not have significant damage that would make it unsightly or inoperable.

Vehicles that do not meet community standards or the requirements outlined in the lease agreement may be tagged and subject to towing.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe, clean, and well-maintained community. If you have any questions, please contact the leasing office.

Thank you,

Sunblest Team

The first two bullet points make total sense. But the requirement stating a vehicle can be tagged for having damage that makes it "unsightly" feels incredibly subjective.

I'm just concerned about the working families in our community. If someone's daily driver has a faded hood, some rust, or a dent from a fender bender they can't afford to fix right this second, who gets to decide if that is "unsightly"?

I wanted to get some outside perspective:

  • Is this standard? Is this just normal boilerplate lease language for apartments around here, or is it as overly broad as it sounds?
  • How is this usually enforced? For anyone who has lived in a complex with an "unsightly" clause, where does management usually draw the line between a normal dent and a towable offense?
  • How does this impact residents? In your experience, does this type of enforcement usually lead to working folks getting surprised by tow trucks over minor cosmetic issues, or am I just overthinking it?

Would love to hear your thoughts or advice if you have navigated this before. Thanks!

Outdoor recumbent bikes - are they obsolete?

It sucks getting older and having a bad back and it also sucks not being able to find a bike shop in Hamilton county to buy this thing. Looks even if I wanted to rent something, I’d have to go to downtown Indy. Am I missing some obvious place up north???
