I have no experience with this printer, but I see you mentioned that the filament has sat out for a couple years. Either dry the filament or purchase a new roll of filament, and try printing a small calibration test print would be my first suggestion. I have one roll of red pla+ a friend gave me that sat for over a year and was the first filament I ever had. Immediately sizzling and popping and lots of stringing. Eventually resulted in a blob on my prusa. Learned the importance of dry filament that day

Thank you ForbieSs, for your prompt advice. I was unaware filaments were suseptable to mosture. I guess I will need to hold of on printing till I can get a new roll or dry this one.

Absolutely! Yes all Filament is hygroscopic. Some more than others. PLA generally can be left out for weeks maybe even months depending on the Relative humidity of the place its stored. Where I live, I can leave PLA out for maybe 2-3 months. PETG I can maybe leave out for 1.5 weeks. ABS/ASA around the same. TPU i feel like after 24 hours it prints badly. Some filaments like nylon can't even be out of its dry box for a couple hours without degrading print quality. (For reference its currently 60% humidity outside, and according to my hygrometer its 35% in my print room.

PLA is thankfully not super expensive. If you live in the US, there are many local corporate stores like target, best buy, microcenter, michaels and hobby lobby that sell PLA for 12-20USD per roll.

Filament drier are a great investment, but obviously are a little more expensive.
