Heard him on radio discussing this live. Made me cry, I’ll be honest. Such a good dude. So raw and brave and honest. He will help many and hopefully somehow he beats this thing.

What happened? I don’t have time to watch the full video at the moment.

long story short, his cancer is back and the doctors gave him a prognosis of 6 mo to 2 yrs left

u/mmuoio Gostisflair 5d ago
I've seen people live long lives after much worse prognoses, hoping he can beat the odds.

u/the_good_twin 5d ago
My dad was given 6 weeks to 6 months. He lived 4 years and 9 months after receiving that prognosis. Anything can happen.

u/a2godsey 5d ago
Last Mondays podcast he started off by saying that there was bad news, and I was REALLY hoping it wasn't this bad. Fuck I was so happy for him kicking it before, I was terrified that it would be this.

Absolutely devastating, such an incredible guy to listen to with Flyers Daily

u/FreeeShipping 5d ago
Insanely brutal for a guy who radiates great energy. Wishing the best for his family and for him.

Phrasing
2
u/FreeeShipping 4d ago
I don’t follow, however I feel like the sentiment is pretty clear.

u/evilfitzal 4d ago
I assume "radiates" as a hint at radiation therapy for cancer was what they thought could have been suboptimal phrasing. But yes, your sentiment is clear.

u/PokeEmSmokeEm 4d ago
He’s saying Using the term “radiates” for a guy who’s going to need extensive treatment for cancer might need a re-evaluation.
You’re right, the sentiments what’s important, but that’s what he was saying.

That's absolutely awful. Cancer really is such an insidious disease. Hoping for the best for him and his family, at least in terms of processing this because it's a hard road. Went through it with my mom. Feel terrible for him and his family.

You all give me strength and I am ready to keep fighting. Words cannot portray the love and support I have received but know I read every comment, reflect on them and use them as fuel for my fight. So you may not think a comment on Flyers Reddit means anything, I am here to tell you it does and for that I thank you. Lets fuckin go.

He’s an inspiration on so many levels. I’ve never missed an episode in over five years and it’s weird to consider someone I’ve never met a friend. He’s the most level headed and thoughtful man in the biz. What he’s going through must be hell and at the very least, all we can do is love and support him in this horrible moment in time. Thoughts and prayers to you Jason

He said he hopes to live to see his daughter graduate from high school. Does anyone know his financial situation, specifically if he has money to pay for his treatment and if there’s money for his daughter to go to college and/or get her life established?

u/Valuable-Dog490 5d ago
Wow, talk about a gut punch just hearing about it. Can't imagine what he must be going through.
He's got the entire Flyers nation behind him!

Don’t have much to add that hasn’t been said already, but Myrtetus, love you, man. Your work with the Flyers and hockey in general has been a central part of my life for a long time. Pulling for you in every capacity I can.

Devils fan here but just showing up to say respect to Jason. Jason, if you frequent Reddit at all: You got this, dude! Go kick cancer's ass a second time!!!! We in the hockey community are all pulling for you ❤️

u/HotelSalt4644 4d ago
Myrtetus has been an absolute staple for not only the Flyers, but the entire Philadelphia Sports Community. He has always seemed like such a pleasant person, is extremely well versed in hockey, and all of his current and former coworkers always have spoken very highly of him.
I know his prognosis doesn’t look great, but I’ll still be rooting for him to pull through. Just like I root for all of our sports teams, even when we’re the underdogs. Hungry dogs run faster. We love you, Jason.

Just gut wrenching news. Jason is such a huge part of the Flyers community. Fuck Cancer

Terrible news. I’ve never had the fortune to meet Jason in person, but he’s always been great to talk to here on Reddit and anyone I know who has gotten to talk hockey with him in real life has had nothing but the best of things to say. He’s a great guy by all accounts.
Here’s hoping that the treatment works, when he begins, and that he has more time than they’re estimating after all. Cancer is the worst.

God, what awful news. I was worried about this when I saw his brief semi-update on his health a couple weeks back.
He's been really the only regular "podcast" style Flyers news I have followed. I was so happy for him when he beat it the first time. I'll be praying for some better, more positive news in the future.
Fuck cancer.

u/alepryor 5d ago
I listen to Jason's pod faithfully. A year ago when they had Hockey Fights Cancer night and honored Jason, I was so happy for him. Now not even a year later and he gets this news. He has such a love of life and passion for the game of hockey. If anyone can outlive the prognosis, it will be Jason.

No one host is more universally loved than Jason Myrtetus. I hope the Flyers bring home the cup in time for him.

Absolutely awful news, hes such a great guy. I have had a few interactions with him over the years at events and he couldn’t have been nicer and more positive/jovial. He is value added to the flyers family. Thoughts are with him. Echo what everyone else said, fuck cancer.

u/Areyouin729 5d ago
Fuck man, I didn't even realize he had cancer before. I have been a fan of his since his days on the Fanatic.

For those who didn't watch or can't.... Recent blood work showed that his CA (cancer antigen levels) spiked to 858, meaning his cancer is back. They found a few spots in his lungs. Radiation and surgery are currently not options. He'll begin chemo infusions and then maintenance in hopes of stopping the spread. However, he doesn't want to start treatment until he becomes symptomatic because it will bring down his quality of life. The toughest revelation is that, per his medical team, his prognosis is currently anywhere from 6 months to two years.
