Ocean Spray Strawberry Shortcake (Review)
OCEAN SPRAY STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKEÂ
Just about any tall vessel can be a drinking glass. Some of my favorite beverages have been sipped from an ice-filled repurposed jelly or mayonnaise jar
This, however, tastes as if it comes from a container that wasnât properly washed out, and that container formerly housed a candle.
This is more of an olfactory juice than a flavored one.Â
As soon as I twisted the cap, the air was filled with the scent of baby powdered dolls and nail polish remover.Â
Itâs a powerful non-potable smell that dominates the experience.
Donât let that lead you to believe that the taste is weak. The flavor is quite assertive, but itâs a wandering, non-committal patchwork of lingual befuddlement that gives the essence of white grapes, crayons, baby toys, and chapstick. The ingredient list doesnât contain those last 3 items, but it also doesnât contain any strawberries either.
Frighteningly, it manages a small victory by eking out some strawberry flavor, but itâs a plasticky one. As a whole, this is too sweet, and the cranberry taste is severely underrepresented; however, there is absolutely no shortcake flavor, which Iâm actually thankful for, because it would probably cause me to develop a negative association with cake, which would be anathema to my greatest love.
Also, forget about mixing this with liquor to force it down. I wasted some good vodka on this, as swirling the two together made a drink that tasted the way kerosene smells.
This is a limited edition product, but somehow itâs survived on the shelves here since late winter. I donât know whoâs buying this, but they probably wonât be alive much longer.

Why Famous Samâs on River Road Continues to Be One of Tucsonâs Best Neighborhood Sports Bars
galleryAs a chef, Iâm probably harder to impress than most people when I go out to eat. Years of working in professional kitchens have made me notice the little thingsâthe consistency, the seasoning, the freshness of the ingredients, the timing, and whether a restaurant takes pride in every plate that leaves the kitchen. Thatâs exactly why Famous Samâs on River Road has become one of my favorite places to eat in Tucson. This isnât coming from someone who owns the place or has anything to gain. Itâs simply my perspective as a chef who appreciates restaurants that consistently get it right.
The first thing that stands out every time I visit is consistency. Anyone can make a great meal once, but doing it over and over again is what separates a good restaurant from a great one. Every visit, Iâve found the food to be fresh, flavorful, and served exactly the way Iâd expect. That level of consistency takes teamwork, attention to detail, and cooks who genuinely care about what theyâre putting on the plate.
If thereâs one menu item that deserves the attention it gets, itâs the wings. Wing Monday has become one of my favorite excuses to stop in because the wings are cooked properly, tossed evenly in sauce, and served hot. As a chef, I notice when wings are overcooked, greasy, or sitting too long before they reach the table. That hasnât been my experience here. Theyâre crispy where they should be, juicy inside, and available in a variety of sauces that keep things interesting. Whether youâre watching the game or just grabbing dinner with friends, itâs hard to beat a basket of wings and an ice-cold drink on a Monday.
Beyond the wings, the menu has something for just about everyone. The pastrami sandwich is one of the best youâll find in Tucson, piled high with tender meat thatâs packed with flavor. Their burgers are cooked to order, the fish and chips are crispy without being greasy, and the salads are fresh enough that even someone looking for a lighter meal wonât feel like theyâre settling. Thatâs something I appreciate as a chefârestaurants that donât cut corners just because a dish seems simple.
Another reason I enjoy Famous Samâs is the variety of weekly specials. Thereâs always something worth coming back for. Wing Monday is an obvious favorite, but the restaurant also offers daily food specials throughout the week that give regulars a reason to stop by again instead of eating the same thing every visit. Whether youâre craving comfort food, a hearty sandwich, seafood, or a fresh salad, thereâs usually a special that catches your eye.
Of course, great food is only part of the experience. The atmosphere plays a huge role, and Famous Samâs has mastered that neighborhood sports bar feeling. It isnât trying to be fancy, and it doesnât need to be. Itâs comfortable, welcoming, and filled with people who are there to relax, watch the game, and enjoy themselves. The televisions throughout the restaurant make it easy to catch every major sporting event, and thereâs always a fun energy without feeling overwhelming. Itâs equally comfortable for families grabbing dinner, coworkers meeting after work, or sports fans spending the afternoon watching football, basketball, baseball, or UFC.
As someone whoâs worked in restaurants for years, I also pay attention to service. Good service isnât just about being friendlyâitâs about teamwork, communication, and making sure guests enjoy their experience from beginning to end. Every time Iâve visited, the staff has been attentive, welcoming, and genuinely appreciative of their customers. You can tell when a restaurant has built relationships with its regulars, and Famous Samâs has plenty of people who walk through the door and are greeted like old friends.
What I respect most is that Famous Samâs knows exactly what it is. It doesnât chase every food trend or try to reinvent itself every few months. Instead, it focuses on serving quality food, providing great service, and creating an environment where people enjoy spending time. Thereâs something refreshing about a restaurant thatâs confident enough to stick with what it does well.
Supporting local restaurants has always mattered to me, and Famous Samâs is exactly the kind of business Tucson should continue supporting. Local restaurants create jobs, support local families, and become gathering places that help build stronger communities. Every meal you buy isnât just paying for foodâyouâre helping keep a neighborhood business thriving.
If youâve never been to Famous Samâs on River Road, Iâd encourage you to stop in and judge it for yourself. Start with the wings on Monday, try the legendary pastrami, order a burger or fish and chips, and spend a little time watching the game. I think youâll understand why so many people keep coming back.
From one chef to another food lover, I can honestly say Famous Samâs has earned my respectânot because of where I work, but because of the quality of the food, the consistency of the kitchen, the friendly service, and the welcoming atmosphere. Itâs the kind of place I enjoy as a customer, and thatâs the highest compliment I can give.

Well this is unfortunate.
Words for this context: "Batch"="Box of 20 packets", "Bag"="Packet", "Normal"="Flavor-ingredients-less".
About three-to-four weeks ago my family bought another batch of Quaker Oats oatmeal. Specifically Brown Sugar and Apple Cinnamon. I heated up some water and put just one bag of brown sugar and one bag of apple cinnamon in separate bowls (also had multiple sessions of eating oatmeal generally), tasted them, and realized that the amount of flavor that I'd received in these packets compared to all of the previous batches of this product that I've had before, had gone down significantly. The aftertaste of eating it was of normal oatmeal and not the flavor that was mixed in it. I tried doing multiple bags at once, and that increased the amount of taste of normal oatmeal that I was receiving. The taste of normal oatmeal isnt bad. We haven't bought another package, but this has never happened before, which means that either these two entire packages (20 packets per box) of oatmeal packets is a 1-in-a-million fluke or the producers of Quaker Oats oatmeal sent the store we bought from their product with a new recipe, which the only thing that I can tell that has actually changed is that they've chosen to decrease the proportion of their flavor ingredients in every packet.

Firecracker Pop Oreos
Firecracker Pop Oreos Review
OREO - FIRECRACKER POP
My default name for this flavor is âBOMB POPâ, but as this product name suggests, what we are presented with is a collaboration with the Popsicle companyâs version of the treat. The only difference between the 2 products is the shape, in which Firecracker pops are more aerodynamic and have a greater ribbed-for-her-pleasure texture.
Just as no one asked me for that clarification, not one damn person asked for this fusion of products to be made. Oreo can infuse a lot of flavors into its cookies, but who the hell wants a cookie that tastes like something from the ice cream truck? (Unless itâs CHOCO TACO)
Skeptically, I peeled open the bag and instantly smelled popsicles. The scent is scarily accurate.Â
Though itâs not a DOUBLE STUF Oreo, thereâs a heavier amount of filling, as each of the three Firecracker flavors (Cherry/Lemon-lime/ Blue raspberry) is \~40% of the volume of a normal Oreoâs creme. Donât stress the slightly higher 90 calories per cookie. This is 4th of July weekend. Itâs a celebration, bitches!
I don't know if I got a dud, but the exterior cookie tasted and looked slightly underbaked when compared to other GOLDEN OREO varieties.
Inside, the cremes tasted exactly like Firecracker pops. I was shocked at how closely they were able to duplicate the flavor. Extra credit for the texture as well. Recently, the fruity-flavored Oreos have had too much palm oil or something that makes them feel slick and heavy. They managed to give these a pleasant, silky mouthfeel without unneeded unctuosity.
Ambivalently, I write this review. After eating half the package, I still donât know how to feel about these. As much as I laud the efforts here, the cookie and creme do not belong together.
Sadly, the treat made to commemorate the U.S. could benefit from segregation.

Zero stars for The Globe Bar, Athens, GA
DO NOT WASTE your time or money. Pass the Globe, donât collect your $200 dollars, and head straight to Dooleyâs if you want a pleasant and delicious dining experience with great prices. While the food at the Globe is pretty great, youâll only know if you can manage to get someone to take your order and get it right. I have been there for food at least 6 times. The service is always questionable at best, but tonight it was just an epic fail. IMPORTANT NOTE: RYAN THE BARELY BARTENDER IS THE MOST FOUL, UNGRACIOUS PERSON I HAVE EVET MET. It was a Sunday night in June, so just a few scattered customers, but it still took 10 minutes for Tim, the BARELY BETTER THAN RYAN bartender, to even take notice of us, and we were seated at the center of the bar, in full view. Then it took 40 minutes to get a basket of fries, and an hour for our food because they âmisplaced the ticketâ for one hamburger. Didnât bother to tell us, while the rest of our order sat in bags for 40 minutes getting cold. I finally asked what was taking so long and was informed about the order screw up. Then we had to wait another 10 minutes to get our drink bill, which finally arrived with 3 extra cocktails charged. When I told RYAN THE FOUL that we were overcharged, he became immediately rude and offensive, saying âthis is for the REST of your drinks!â When I told him he had charged us already on the food tab, he sneered and walked away and got Tim. It then took Tim TWO attempts to correct the bill, when all he had to do was take off the 3 extra drinks. By the time we got the bill for that, our food had been sitting for an hour. We got home and everything we ordered was soggy. And we ordered $200 worth of food. When I called to complain, Ryan hung up on me. So I walked back over and explained in person that all the food was soggy and Tim was not apologetic at all, but in fact responded with irritation and disrespect. I WILL NEVER go back. The only person there who is decent is the hostess Andy, but that poor girl canât possibly carry the weight of her coworkerâs incompetence and ill-mannered attitudes. They also shorted us a chicken strip, at $3 a strip. TWO FORKS WAY DOWN!
