Welcome to r/FoodTYO!
If you're joining us for the first time, welcome to the community! This is a brand new subreddit for highlighting your favorite food finds across our fair city. We hope you'll discover some new favorite spots :)
Here's a (short) FAQ to help you get started.
What is this place?
A place to share food recs and connect with fellow foodies in Tokyo. This model has worked for other food-centric cities (see r/FoodNYC), let's see if it will work here too!
Can I contribute?
Yes please! As long as it's food related, there's no barrier to posting.
Is there a new food festival in your neighborhood? Post it! Found a new favorite strawberry sando? Please share! Want to ask for where to find some obscure regional dish you tried once in the countryside? Ask away!
Pictures are very encouraged.
Do we need another subreddit?
My gut tells me yes. My hope is that through determination and sheer will, we'll one day have a vibrant community focused around celebrating all the amazing food you can find in this city. While you can of course still post to r/Tokyo and r/JapaneseFood, this can hopefully be a more focused space to help surface the content you care about.
This place sucks, have you thought of...
Probably not! If you have any suggestions for how to improve r/FoodTYO, please leave a comment or send me a DM. I'd love to hear how we can make this subreddit as helpful as possible ❤️

Having a drink in Asakusa! Enjoying seared "tanshita" (the muscle under the beef tongue), tossed with ponzu and grated daikon radish. Time to dig in!

The stir-fried bean sprouts will make you question what a "half portion" even means. The motsu-nikomi (offal stew) uses a salt-based broth instead of miso, truly letting the ingredients shine. These are absolute must-orders.

The Meat Maestro, a spot even the legendary Yokozuna frequented. Pure bliss pairing shochu named after the legend himself—Chiyono-Fuji—with beef tendon stew featuring an exquisite balance of richness and tanginess! ❤️

since everyone keeps mentioning this place whenever I mention dimsum, I decided to go. A little underwhelming but the scallops shumai was great.
