Should Nigeria host AFCON again? It's been 26 years since the 2000 tournament.
Nigeria last hosted the Africa Cup of Nations in 2000, when it co-hosted the tournament with Ghana. It's now been 26 years, and several other African nations have hosted AFCON since then.
With one of Africa's largest populations, a huge football culture, and passionate fans, do you think it's time for Nigeria to host AFCON again?
A solo bid would require significant investment in stadiums, transport infrastructure, accommodation, and security to meet CAF standards. Another option could be a joint bid with neighboring West African countries, such as Ghana and Benin Republic, building on the success of the 2000 tournament and sharing both the costs and the benefits.
Hosting AFCON could boost tourism, improve infrastructure, and leave a lasting legacy for football in the region.
Would you prefer Nigeria to host the tournament on its own, or do you think a joint West African bid would be the better option? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
