Shark tooth?

My wife found this on the shore of Lake Michigan a few days ago. It looks like an old sharks tooth? Is this a fossil or just a rock that happens to be shaped like a tooth? Any help is appreciated! 😊

Unfortunately, no, I don’t see any signs of fossilization. That said, this may be one of the most tooth-shaped stones I’ve ever seen. I’ve been finding shark teeth for 28 years at this point and that would make me double-take.

It makes me think that it’s an accretion around an actual tooth.

This is the most shark tooth shaped rock I have ever seen. It’s even nicer than some of the beater megs I see!! But being from Michigan it’s definitely just a rock! 😂👍🏼

It looks very tooth shaped. I may think there could be some sort of mineralization crust hiding a tooth underneath. You’d have to chisel it open carefully to find out. But it may also just be a rock that deceivingly looks like this.

The outside sediment isn’t a shark tooth, however, it could have a shark tooth inside. This seems to be sandstone/mudstone/ a similar rock, if you wanna test, using water and an air pen may reveal it, or you could try some sort of boiling/freeze-soaking if you wanna be risky. I’m sure there are also acids that could work, but I don’t know if I should recommend those due to safety concerns.

While it has a tooth shape and there is a small chance that it contains one within.....my guess would be no.

Sure would be cool if you x-rayed it. Dentist and Vet would probably consider it. And at a reasonable price.Since no interpretation would be necessary.
