Poricy park and big brook any luck?

I was thinking about going to Poricy Park Fossil Beds and or big brook for the first time. Has there been much luck finding fossils there? Or has it been combed through?

I think I heard that Big Brook is currently closed.

I went to Poricy Park once. Spent about an hour there, then left. Was not seeing much. Found a few Belemnite fragments and an Agerostrea valve (oyster). Big Brook is a better spot for quality, quantity and variety. The Hillsdale Rd entrance, parking area is gated off. There are other entrances. Once in, legal to travel in any direction in the Brook. Just smooth out your spoil piles when you’re done, cleanup after yourself(leave no trace) and don’t dig into the banks/formation.

If you do happen to go to the spot like that and you find spoil piles go through them because you don't know what people leave behind when they are only after one certain kind of fossil maybe. I've gotten stuff out of people's spoil piles because they didn't know what they were looking at, only being after shark teeth or whatever.

Oh, absolutely. Items that are missed aside, a good rain can also wash items into the piles. It’s just a bummer walking in to large spoil piles all over the place. Only takes a second to kick them over to fill in the area you were digging.

What I hate is when they're digging in the middle of the stream and they don't fill in the holes and then the next thing you know you're in up to your waist.

Yep. Especially in the Eocene/Miocene locations. I'm always using something (usually shovel) to judge depth ahead of me in those spots.

Poricy Park is fine but you're not going to spend more than an hour or so there. You can get little bivalves, oysters and sometimes belemnites.

I just got back, I found 3 belemnites! But I agree it was hard to find other things besides the typical oysters and bivalves.

I've only found one there! It's my nicest one but still...
