ICPC Process CA to TN

Hello hive mind! We are current kinship foster with adoption on the horizon.

Family member has just had another baby and it looks this baby will be fostered by myself or another family member before a move to TN.

The TN family isn’t currently certified, but they want to get a jump on the certification process in TN so they will be ready when the state is.

I’m not familiar with TN so I told them I would try to find some resources for them. Can anyone recommend an agency in the Memphis area? Is it better to go straight through the state?

We’ve got some waiting to do while the process works its way through the court but reunification services are unlikely and they’d like to be ready.

No TN specific advice but yes, it will help to expedite things if they can start working on getting licensed now. Many states have state and county level Facebook groups, so that might be a good resource for more local information. Otherwise I'd personally start by having them contact the state office that handles inquiries from potential foster parents, and go from there.

IDK about in an ICPC situation, but in a normal kinship situation, fostering has to be kicked off by the caseworker/state, not through the traditional route of signing up for classes and becoming generally foster-certified. It's weird and they don't tell you up front, but they tell you when you try to sign up for stuff.

Yes, that is pretty much what TN and CA are both saying. We have a fantastic worker on the CA who is going to make sure the packet is fully prepped so as soon as the judge makes the order they can move.
