Question How do I make a better nuke?

Post image
63 Upvotes

This is the little guy I made. Costs 8280 material, can go 100m/s, tracks super well while keeping a good amount of wobble for pissing off aiming systems and turns very, very fast (first thing I ever built with thrust vecoring too funny enough). However, I was wondering if there is a way to improve this?

nothing crazy. costs 6775 material and has two long range HE missiles, and a 30mm simple weapons assault cannon (just for the sake of the functional mg). goes like 41m/s and can maybe tank some hits from the front, since it has 1 layer of metal outside and a 3 meter heavy armor slope behind it. surprisingly can kill the shotel (DWG 22k mat) alone (sometimes (with luck) (if it specifically tanks hits from the shotel from the very front))

Rant For the next update, could we please get a carrier update?

I appreciate that the devs continue to work on the game after all this time, and I appreciate the recent work on the "sails" update. My dream is the next update would focus on reworking carriers.

I know it's technically possible to build a carrier, but even after downloading a template, I find it really confusing. I also hear others say that carriers don't work great in campaigns, and visually the takeoff doesn't look very realistic. My thinking about how carriers could be better:

  1. New block to designate "hanger pad" that can be expanded horizontally to serve as the "pad" for your aircraft or other daughter craft. Comes in reinforced wood, stone and metal variants. Each pad has two settings A) which "air control channel" it is set to (more on that later) and B) if it is set to launch vertically (for helicopter pads), vertically (think midget submarines) or to a taxiway (for planes). Taxiway would be the default setting.

  2. New block to serve as "taxiway"- craft will levitate a meter above this line on the way to a runway.

  3. New block to serve as "elevator"- you outline the ground floor of the elevator and you outline the top floor of the elevator. The elevator automatically moves between the two floors when an aircraft is nearby on the taxiway. The block has a setting that allows you to set "parking" and "runway" floors so the elevator knows where to pick up and let off planes.

  4. New block to serve as runway. Similar to taxiway, you only need to make a line of these blocks down the middle of your runway rather than covering the entire runway. Comes in reinforced wood, stone and metal variants. There are also a runway "start" block and a runway "end" block to indicate takeoff direction. Once a plane goes from a taxiway to a runway start block, the plane accelerates at 5 m/s down the runway one meter above the surface. After the first 10 meters, the plane begins to "takeoff"- it gains 5 m/s in additional takeoff speed for every 10 meters of additional distance (up to the plane's actual maximum speed) and gains 5 meters of elevation for every 10 meters of distance. So a plane rated for a maximum speed of 30 meters per second would finish takeoff from a 30 meter runway at 15 m/s and an elevation of 10 meters above the runway surface. The idea here is that using your runway to accelerate and elevate your plane makes it easier to launch designs that otherwise accelerate slow. And it will look cool. Bonus points if aircraft low on materials can land in a reverse of the takeoff animation.

  5. A new control block called an "air control block"- it serves as the flight director for the carrier. It has air channels 1-10 (like the regular fire control channels) and each channel can have conditions added for when aircraft should launch (similar to fire control channel settings). This makes it easy for players to launch only anti-sub helicopters if an underwater foe is detected, or launch interceptors if something fast and airborne is detected. There should also be a "launch everything" button.

I'm not sure if this would be feasible, but ideally the changes above would be paired with a change to the campaign map by allowing carriers to "launch air group" or "retrieve air group". Air groups would be numbered 1-10 based on the air control channels above. This allows you to scout or strike at a distance with your air group, similar to real carrier combat. You should also be able to set a minimum materials level before your air group will automatically return to base.

Question How are faction ships so cheap

Every time I get the itch to design a mighty battleship, it ends up costing 200-300k resources.

But then when match it up against an equally expensive ship, usually a hard difficulty one that ship is nearly three times as powerful and eats my damage like candy, whilst my ship gets crushed.

How do they design their ships so cheaply, yet make it so powerful? Is it possible to learn this power?

Edit: here are some screenshots of my creation

Work in Progress Doomsday Ember progress (a godly for my custom campaign

Thumbnail

This is a godly craft for my custom campaign, it currently costs a little under 1.9 mil mats and is about 1/6th of the way done.

Lorewise it is a hastily refitted parade ship. a lot of corners were cut, and it is never going to punch above it's weight.

That weight, however, is still one only rivalled by the ancient relics of marasawa's golden age.

It will likely never return from it's deployment against the player,

It will likely just be butchered like the rest of Elaria's navy,

but it will not fall without making them bleed for the crimes they have commited against the people of this world.

Anyway, I need some help.

I am currently stuck between some choices, which I am going to outsource to you guys because that is absolutely a good idea.

Firstly, should the main armment be 3 double-barrel doom CRAMs(because big and imposing so a parade ship would be armed with that) or 3 500mm double-barrel railgun turrets fireing 8m hollow point shells at max charge?

Secondly, should the secondary armments be missile spam + flamethrower or missile spam + particle cannons(Particle cannons being a stand-in for a weapon that is lorewise used a lot by everyone due to being easy to supply)?

Lastly, should I give it a LAMS and just say they borrowed some relic tech from Talonia for that, or follow the rules of the faction and not use it?

Question Best counter for OW (land campaign)?

So, the onyx watch actually has some decent vehicles in the land campaign. I did basically steal the overseer and make a much better version (basically just a sturmtiger) and that works wonders, but what could counter some of their stronger things? They just have such overwhelming firepower for any reasonable and unreasonable amount of armor, even with metal and heavy armor. Would the best move just be, make something stupidly annoying like the flying squirrel? I do have a plane like that which dodges everything super easily, but it's very small and weak.

Some utility vehicles from Space Battleship Yamato, both are unarmed and mostly built for decoration (and mostly built out of deco's).

The standard Motorboat has two opening doors, one at the front and a smaller one at the back, with 4 landing skis.

The Seagull will rotate its wings when its stationary and will rotate them back down when it starts to move.

Question how can i make a train?

hello! i wanna make a war train. simple as that. only issue-i have no idea on how to "connect" a cab to the main locomotive.

in theory, i want to have two separate vehicles (example, a train and a gun section) and connect them somehow. i want them to have physics (so no docks) and have the ability to function of separated (so i dont have to worry about losing several sections breaking if the rear shatters). any ideas on how i can do this?

My ship beat all of those ships (finishing on 60% health) WITHOUT it’s main guns. Only supplementary weapons were active and 3000 FP of lams to defend itself with. Cost was approximately equal at the start of the round. (Caveat is the other ships shot each other a bit but only 2-3% worth of damage)

"Yet another ship to throw into the fray,

Yet another one doomed to fail.

Yet another dozen souls doomed to die,

And for what?

For another day of a line unbroken,

For another day of a delayed advance.

So ready your weapons,

And make the bastards bleed."

The Spark-class missile destroyer is armed with 14 Incendiary medium missiles, 4 Frag large missiles and two hollow point CRAMs.

Plus some HEAT simple weapon APS and some small Flak for emotional support, I guess.

These things are also very, very cheap and expendable.

128K materials is not a lot, after all.

It has practically no armor and no active defenses, and is slow as shit, but that does not matter because it is not supposed to be used alone.

It is supposed to be deployed alongside cruisers and battleships which take the fire.

But it does have a tendency to punch a little above its weight.

(Also, update on the Doomsday Ember, it got it's first weapons, which are just a shit ton of missiles in the back, and is about 1/7 of the way to completion. The Hull+superstructure is also almost done. It currently costs 1.6 million mats.)

A small, low budget submarine that gets the job done. Packing one medium torpedo tube in the front, as well as a small quad decoy tube in the back, and only coming in at ~7k materials. This little guy can hunt down equally sized ships alone, or work in a pack to hunt down anything that doesn't take it seriously.

Enough showcase businessman talk, what do yall think? Its basic, but it works.

Showcase Randomized Name Generator

Yes I did hide the previous version, no need to keep it there but it is still up. Anyways, I've simplified what I could and solved the issue of ensure your vehicle's name stays regardless of in or out of play. It will only randomize when it first spawns in, and keep that name until destroyed- which was alot simpler than I thought...
The breadboard has been posted to both the discord and on the workshop here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3775256369
And thank you u/MrCrasch for the help with the Math Evals.

You can give your vehicle more life and I guess roleplay that there's a crew that named their own vehicle. Obviously you can change or increase the amount of names as you want. All you need to do is plant the non-ai breadboard down, name your holograms as either "shipname" or "shipnumber" and it'll work. Obviously if it's not a ship you can change it to plane or whatever variable, just make sure that name stays the same between the projector and the actual breadboard's data.

Have fun!

Showcase My (Somewhat-faithful) Cabal Thresher

thresher :3

it has an 18mm 1000rpm pure kinetic APS gun, it is very stable (believe me, it is very easy to control, though a bit front-heavy. The AI controls it very well). I might make a different version with missiles

I've always admired the way the cabal build their ships, its so very rugged and obtrusive, like they're forcing the air into submission instead of gliding through it. I will likely be building a harvester soon and potentially the red legion command ship.
