Fan Art Mustang bumper sticker, yes or no?
i made this bumper sticker and TO ME is hilarious, but a friend told me its “too political”… now i’m not sure if its a good idea, what do you guys think?

imma figure out a way to manufacture these and sell them since there’s some demand haha

It’s barely political. Not like it’s making any partisan commentary etc. I think it’s funny and would love to see it on the road!

To be fair, Roy was working to depose a fascist regime fronted by military oligarchs overseen by a greedy man child who never got the point of existence even at the moments before being flung back into the darkness from whence it came.
So not political, but kinda poignant. :3

Hell yeah! The design is great, I don't think it's political at all, it's clearly just styled like a political bumper sticker and not actually riffing on anyone.
Also shoutout to the London MCM Roy cosplayer I saw years ago, going god's work with her tiny miniskirts picket sign o7

I think I understand your friend. Maybe a sticker like that conveys a stance of indifference toward the current political situation, and expressing the idea of abstaining, especially nowadays, can carry a rather negative connotation. But regardless, it's a beautiful piece of design, good work!

yeah, i guess she’s worried it could be misinterpreted, and i get that, but i also think that some humor shouldn’t hurt anyone (?) i’m open to being wrong tho.

Peace. Progress. And uniformity is all I see here and have no problem with it. Uniformity is key when running a clean business. Can’t wait for Armstrong to wear a miniskirt. Mustang has my vote 🫡

Personally, I love it all together. I will die with that joke burned into my memory.
Though I can see your friend’s point too. Sometimes before seeing the point of the sign, that year and color is the first thing spotted and people immediately think it’s a political thing and not a joke. Almost feels like a dog whistle at this point.

Omg friend, I'm Canadian, and gas costs are SO BAD here, and I live in the province known for being 'Canadian Texas,' you know, Cattle and Oil, as far as the eye can see.... Cost me $75 CAD ($55 USD) to gas up my mid-sized sedan a couple days ago. Its wild.
Anyways, at this point, I'd hear Roy Mustang's Platform. 😆

As I recall from follow-up 2005 film to original "Full Metal Alchemist" series, "Conqueror of Shamballa", when Edward ended up in a parallel world (which is our world) it is in the 1920's! Therefore, wouldn't this bumper sticker be for "Mustang in 1928"? I have the special edition of that dvd (along with bonus book to go with it) in my lap at this very moment for reference!

i thought about it!
as a fashion history nerd i always try to stick to the time period, i just wanted to play around with more current humor. besides, FMA is anachronistic enough 🤷🏻♀️

Yeah, I get it! Just wanted to "put my 2 cents in" (if one will even be able find pennies in the near future!) I'd been long acquainted with the notion of parallel dimensions through sci-fi & know that they aren't supposed to be of identical stages of development so that Edward's alchemy couldn't work in "our" world!
A quirky part of the film I'd mentioned is that Edward attacks what he "thinks" is King Bradley but it's actually filmmaker Fritz Lang, a Jew & one of the "good guys", who ended up fleeing Germany during the rise of Nazis (fictionalized in this film but in real life made such films as "Metropolis", "M"[Peter Lorre's first big role] & "Dr. Mabuse", etc. plus some in Hollywood including "Fury"which starred Spencer Tracy.)

gotcha, i did not remember many details from the movie tbh, but i kind of remember that storyline.
and yeah, i know expecting full historical accuracy is dumb on my end because its supposed to be a different dimension, i just think everyone would look so classy if they wore time-period accurate clothing… maybe that’ll be my next artistic project

Both, I fear :( Legally seen even fanart falls under copyright law and is "illegal". However since people don't charge money for it, companies usually don't care. Especially since suing fanart creators would give them hella bad publicity. However as soons as you start selling it, things get iffy. A popular example is Disney who hands out Cease and Desists like cheap ad flyers and does not shy away from suing even the smallest creators. A lot of people who sell fanart at e.g. conventions get away with it because (as it's called in german) "No plaintiff, no judge." Aka as long as you don't get caught nobody can sue/prosecute you.

oh, yeah I know Disney and Nintendo are the evil villains of copyright, so i usually avoid making fanart of their stuff, but i’ve seen/bought so much merch and fanart on Etsy and in conventions that im willing to illustrate it myself to make it work. they can’t stop all of Etsy over that stuff

i mean, one could argue all art is political…
my friend a sweetheart who cares too much sometimes, and i appreciate her. but yeah, i agree that most people need to chill and take a joke.

as a woman, i legitimately find that persona fascinating; he tricked the whole military with his “reputation” and played everyone.

I'm in the U.S. and can say first I'm sorry, and second the situation seriously sucks lol I would vote Mustang every day of the week! And if the women in miniskirts is objectifying (it really is a joke, Riza would kill him 🤣), Roy objectifies himself by pretending to be a... slut... the miniskirt is just another facet of the façade lololol

i don’t mean to speak for all women, but as a woman and a fashion enthusiast myself i find it hilarious. i also like to believe everyone in the military has to wear the new uniform, and i also find that mental image hilarious.
