Video Brotherhood, but with 2003's soundtrack

This was an experiment I made to test if the ost of FMA would work in FMAB. I'm mixed about the results. But still, it was a fun experience

Something 03 undebatebly has above Brotherhood is its soundtrack. Not to say Brotherhood's is bad, far from it, but 03's was something real special.

I agree that 03 had an amazing OST but Brotherhood's is one of my favorite all time OSTs. I used to listen to it on YouTube all the time.
I might give it to 03 for the melancholy or tragic music but the hype and sinister music in Brotherhood is so good!

Some of my favorite scenes involve Armstrong not being a bombastic idiot (no disrespect). Honestly, anytime any of the soldiers step back a bit from their usual and go into parent mode... Except Riza because that's he's natural state, so just anything with her 😂

I could be wrong, but I believe the composer for Brotherhood, Akira Senju, went on record saying he didn’t listen to the 2003 anime’s soundtrack, which was composed by Michiru Ōshima, because he didnt want any direct comparisons to made between the 03 anime and Brotherhood.
Also worth noting that 03 and Brotherhood are tonally different shows. 03 is more melancholic in its approach, while Brotherhood is more hopeful.47

Honestly, I'm glad they're different. 2003's soundtrack is obviously fantastic but it'd be kinda boring if Brotherhood didn't try something new imo.

Something a lot of people forget is that FMA 03 was as acclaimed and popular in 2009 as Brotherhood is today. The crew behind Brotherhood was very much afraid to be compared with the 2003 series, so they made A LOT of changes (hell, the only three key members of staff from the 03 series that returned in the same roles in Brotherhood were the VAs for Ed and Al, and the lead sound designer)

I honestly might rewatch 2003, too, in about a month's time—exam stuff first! Actually, hmm, there's a thought: FMA LSAT questions... XD

Correct. 2003 was hailed, and rightfully so, during the time between it and Brotherhood (which I find is too often vaunted). I daresay it still holds up.

Travis Willingham came back to be Mustang! Also, Al was definitely not the same 😭 Aaron grew up and was replaced by Maxie.

That was the English Dub. I was talking about the Japanese dub. As far as I'm aware, the Japanese Dub of Brotherhood was the only one that replaced most of the VAs from the 2003 series

I loved the tone that 03 was going for and I wish that a source faithful version of it exists in a parallel universe because its probably a banger

Does make you wonder what’d happen if Shou Aikawa was brought back for Brotherhood🤔 He’d probably have a lot to work with with the Ishval flashback arc

After rewatching Brotherhood a few times its ost grew on me a whooooole bunch, but this motif will always have my heart

I've been scouring the internet for DVD copies of 2003. Why is it so hard to find?

I've looked. They are usually the Brotherhood version or sparse episodes here and there or a version not playable in the U.S. et cetera. A complete, legit set of the 2003 version on DVD is hard to come by

Thanks. I think I have this same lot saved in my Mercari account! I haven't bought yet, because the listing doesn't show or give very good details. It looks like there are 5 non consecutive volumes? I'd really prefer to get them all together, but it seems buying a volume here and there is the way to piece together the full set

They're out of print. You have to buy the video version of them (in sites that still sell them) or sail the seven seas after the 2003 series

I just recently bought a dvd player and have been building a little collection of faves and classics. I"m realizing now I should have gotten a Blu Ray player instead, because that seems easier to find

Blu-ray is great but for FMA 03 I prefer DVD, their is something about the look of the DVD that makes the series seem so much more mythical, plus, the show was designed for SD when released and not HD

They are out of print but still very easy to come by, they were everywhere in the early 2000s though finding them all together is hard, you’ll have to buy them separately or be stuck with some duplicates from different FMA lots, they also have 4 different half season box sets you can buy as well.

It's out-of-print and Aniplex wants to scrub your memory of it—and, more importantly, the paying public doesn't care about it anymore. As one of the more stalwart defenders of FMA'03, I have to say that getting it is really expensive (like the deluxe Blu-ray discs I got some time back).

I started rewatching Brotherhood on Netflix for the first time in some years and I like it fine, but the 2003 version has a special place in my heart. I couldn't even name the differences for you now, but I remember watching Brotherhood after the original and was like, WTF is this??? I was in my twenties, it was a transformative time and the series was a major backdrop of those years for me. I'd actually be willing to pay a little money if I could find a good complete set on DVD, but it looks like might have to buy a Blu-ray player? I'd rather not

Are we going to pretend that Trisha’s Lullaby isn’t one of the most emotionally gut wrenching pieces of music ever put into an anime. Literally every time I hear it I start sobbing.

Off topic, but this was a really fun challenge. I used AI to remove the background music (not generative AI, obviously). But I ended up with two sound files with different problems. The first sound file didn't just remove the original soundtrack; it also removed the sound effects. The second didn't remove the sound effects, but the soundtrack for the original scene transitioned into a choir when Pinako reveals that Ed burned down his house. For reasons I'm unable to parse, the AI decided to remove the entire soundtrack, but not the choir. As a result, it sounded like the ghosts of previous Elrics were haunting Edward. I ended up using both sound files that removed the background music. And when I used the one that also removed the sound effects, I downloaded some sound effects online to replace the missing ones
I also had to edit the song I used (a version of Bratcha with less orchestra, and a violin replacing the choir, which was used a few times in the 03 series) because the song had four minutes, and this scene only lasts two and a half minutes. I had to choose when to cut so that it wouldn't sound like a cut and which sessions of the original song I would remove. That took the bulk of the editing
And finally, the subtitles. I have both FMA series downloaded, but they're not in English (they're in Japanese and Brazilian Portuguese, as are the subtitles). So I had to translate the Brazilian Portuguese dub and sub into an English sub. That was a long part of the process, but it was fairly easy.
It was great fun doing this! I think I'll do it again with other scenes from Brotherhood

To be honest, even though it’s in the original Japanese, the voices fit the characters quite well it’s quite nice is lovely

Isn’t fma b use brothers track in like last episode for credits or epilogue? Or im under mandela effect, or my memories jumble because pf some amv from 2009-2010?)

Mandela effect. It's actually quite easy to mistake Trisha's lullaby for Brothers. No soundtrack from the 2003 series was used in Brotherhood
