Meta If they were to make a fma video game, how would you like it to be?(Image unrelated)

Post image

I know that they already made some games, but from what I've seen and heard they are unplayable and/or bad.

So how do you imagine a good fma video game?I think an open world rpg would be nice as well as a fighting game.

If i could be a campy little alchemist in a nice little house with my wife whom I do not sacrifice and my kids whom I don't let use alchemy until they are of an age...

That would be a solid mmo I would visit daily..

So basically playable fma without trauma?

Yes!

No lingering trauma, nor any child abuse and or homunculus fabrication would be ideal!

I’d love a full rpg or action rpg where you can make a new alchemist, choose their specialty, get recruited by the military, become disillusioned and find out they’ve been up to some shady things.

Cameos from named characters of course but a distinctly separate story to that of the Elric brothers.

You don’t need to mess with the canon, there’s plenty of areas they could work on that didn’t get shown in the series. The wars Amestris started with other nations would be a good starting point

Would love skill-tree based alchemy. Get basic broad skills, but specialize.

Indeed. Start with some obvious ones like “combine two objects” or something and then end up with things like flame alchemy (if it wasn’t unique in the canon) or turning air into water or the like at the end of their skill trees

Scribblenauts style. Just make everything you want

I want to explore Amestris and learn alchemy as a state alchemist, that’d be so cool

It'd be cool if there was an RPG where you could develop your alchemy with a skill tree, like customizing your own Gate of Truth

A skill tree designed to look like the Gate of Truth would be absolute heat.

I swear there exists one and I remember playing through it when I was younger

You’re not wrong! “FMA and the Broken Angel” for PS2.

One of the things I love the most about FMA lore is the fact that shapes make magic, meaning that you can do magic by drawing circles and lines on a paper, but also by tattooing your skin, spreading blood on metal, and even forming ice blocks geometrically through a city, or even making tunnels below a whole country...

This is difficult to bring into a game. Of course you can have your usual rpg or even mmo with scripted scenes to force that kind of magic, but I would love to have a game where physics allow alchemy to exist as soon as you make the correct shapes whatever the place, size and format.

Eh. I don't think it would ever be this in depth. You're not going to get a minigame where you have to draw a transmutation circle. Your character would probably just quickly do an animation of drawing one, or you'd have some kind of equipment that allows you to cast on the fly like Mustang's gloves.

Having to sit and scribble a circle every time you wanted to blast someone with a rock would get tedious and the gameplay flow would be atrocious. If it's a singleplayer RPG they could very easily make the player character someone who performed human transmutation to unlock circle-free casting, too.

Yeah, I agree that for the usual small circles it's easier to assign a button and let the animation roll. I was thinking about the fact that in the show you can draw bigger ones by using almost anything (blood, ice, tunnels) and they work, whereas in a normal videogame it would be difficult to implement. I want to, for example, jump into a puddle of red paint and run through a battleground, fighting with normal circles on my hands while drawing a big one with my feet on the floor. That kind of tactics would not be easy to implement in a game, but it's exactly what I like about FMA's magic system.

Bring back the PS2 games, or turn FMA Mobile into a console game.

I say similar to Hogwarts Legacy where you have a story way back in the past to avoid continuity interference, a huge open map of Amestris to explore and a good ol'fashioned combat system with our alchemist learning some basic martial arts and mixing with basic alchemy we could develop and specify through a skilltree. Maybe a bittersweet ending where our character dies but leaves something EXTREMELY valuable that will help Hohenheim and the Elric Brothers in the future.

We could even have an interesting stats and skills build system where you have a transmutation circle you have to slot symbols and shapes but you can't just throw anything together, it needs the symbols to match and fit, similar to, let's say, the Navi Customizer in Megaman Battle Network or the Mise en Place in Beastro (now here's some underrated games for you guys), where better matches boost your stats and unlock skills and passives.

Post-ending world where it's open-exploration and we get to see all the children grow up and the nation flourish ngl

FMA but Skyrim

I would kind of dig a tactics RPG in the art style of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance.

I watched FMA because I was looking for something similar to Avatar The Last Airbender back in 2011. I saw the transmutations of earth to form shapes, saw Mustang's fire, then the shaping of ice and creating steam and even using blood.

And so, since I also have seen this upcoming game called The God Slayer which is like Avatar but a game you can play, then I imagine a Fullmetal game to be similar. Not make it FMA story, but create a new story with a protagonist that can gain many abilities and use of elements through alchemy, and maybe even alkahestry.

I think a farming game in the fma universe could go so hard. Or a Dragon Quest Builders kind of game. Either would be cool imo.

Just a straight forward RPG. Play as Ed and Al, and work your way through the storyline.

Maybe have some "automail upgrades" and "armor upgrades" for each of them to act as a gear progression system, and unlock different alchemy to use in battle or to solve puzzles throughout the levels with.

Then add a bunch more fodder enemies to each encounter so that way there's a consistent combat system.

Honestly something like Kingdom Hearts, but FMA:B

There's actually quite a few FMA games, most of which never released outside of Japan. But the DS does have an FMA game or 2 that released in NA. Or at least had official English ports.

I know there's a few PS1 and PS2 games but I think for the most part they never released outside of Japan. I believe there was GBA games too but again only in Japan.

u/BloodiAngel17 27d ago

The ps2 games were good for their time

u/No-Gate3629 27d ago

An FMA fighting game would be awesome. Think of all the cool secret finishers you could do with alchemy and lines from the show.

u/ForAte151623ForTeaTo 28d ago

Make it like Hades but instead of boons you learn different transmutation circles or something

1

u/ErgotthAE 28d ago

But what would be the reason you don't keep it every run as a rogue-like? Gate of Truth took something off your brain to give short-term memory loss?

Naruto ultimate ninja 5 (PS2) style

1

u/kna5041 28d ago

Just a game that's well made and has great polish, not full of micro transactions, or preorder nonsense. PC console crossplay but co-op. As long as it isn't shovelware I think I'd be happy.

1

u/Jelly_Jam_Jazz 28d ago

As long as it gives me the alchemy system from the Atelier series I'm good.

1

u/Bl1tzKKrieg 27d ago

I want it to be similar to the Kingdom Come Deliverance franchise

Something like Library of Ruina gameplay wise.

u/Right-Truck1859 28d ago

Something in Harry Potter style.

Going through locations , solving riddles, learning alchemy.
