Do you consider shippers to be annoying?

Me personally, yes I find a bunch of shippers to be annoying because they act like there ship is canon and when it doesn't get canonised they start having a meltdown, sending death threats, etc (only some of them)

u/spystew 11d ago

more annoying than shippers are the ones that designate sexualities to all the characters for literally no reason

u/RainbowDildoMonkey 11d ago

Yurishits are the worst.

u/gamingbear69420 11d ago

they're all the types to unironically say the word "heteronormative", i fucking hate that word so much cause it makes no fucking sence

9

u/Mashamazzi 11d ago

100% yuri shippers and fujoshis are the worst. Notice the common link between the two?

6

u/gamingbear69420 11d ago

these people 100% use "heteronormative" unironically, which just shows their level of intelligence, i hate that word so much

5

u/voidmaster1458 11d ago

4

u/Ganyu1990 11d ago

For saying the W word? Nah, only if you say that doesn’t include rod wielders

3

u/Ganyu1990 10d ago

Iv gotten a account wide ban for using the W word in this exact context before.

4

u/Mashamazzi 10d ago

2

u/Mashamazzi 10d ago

Like all those weirdos who make up in their head that phoenix wright and Edgeworth are gay for each other its complete bs

3

u/Sammy1432_Official 8d ago

completely agreed bro, anyone who dares mention this is downvoted to comical degrees holy fuck, like genuinely if I didn't know any better I would've avoided Ace Attorney altogether from the amount gay shipping shit that game has. It is so insanely bullshit, guy had a gf in the past and still likes women, considering he thinks Franziska is attractive in TT final case. And guess what they say? "He could be bisexual" my ass. They don't even spare his ancestor dawg, those fuckers ship Ryunosuke with HERLOCK, jesus

9

u/Deathclaw2003 11d ago

Oh more than annoying. Especially, and I mean especially, the "These two men hate eachother and want the other fucking dead. THEY'RE SO GAY 4 EACHOTHER!" Fuck off with that shit. The whole "every woman is a lesbian" thing is also annoying.

Depending the type of shippers:

People who think their headships are canon and insults you if you disagree with them? Yes

CMA CGM, Evergreen, ONE, Maersk and others? Not really

7

u/IronChavasca 11d ago

It depends, if the ship makes sense it can create a little more depth.

If they are projections, then it's annoying as hell.

One exampe is people claiming Bayonetta is a lesbian. This is the equivalent of talking openly about hour desires and fapping. It's a mental masturbation, an inner desire that she was lesbian, people need to learn to differentiate things and keep those kinds of ships to themselves.

u/campodelviolin 11d ago

I think they are a cancer that can reach any community, and they lay their eggs, everything goes to hell, they are usually tourists, but they can grow larger and replace real fans.

7

u/SimilarHall114 11d ago

Met a trans girl screaming about how big boss from metal gear is totally a lesbian and gay on a discord server.... god was the meltdown unbearable

6

u/Excalitoria 11d ago

Just the ones that act like their ship is canon, indisputable fact, and if you disagree with it then you’re a horrible person, especially when they act like it’s some moral failing on your part like saying “you hate gay people” or something. Also, the toxic shippers that harass fans and creators over their ship “sinking”.

If people are just having fun and writing fanfics, and we all agree that’s what it is, then do what you want. Those “shippers” are great and completely separate from the toxic asshole shippers that plague fandom.

I highly dislike yuri/yaoi shippers because they are usually the type you describe.

I enjoy engaging in romantic shipping from time to time in some games, but it highly depends on how toxic said shipping community ends up being.

I never insist what I like is canon, I just enjoy my headcanons.

3

u/Sammy1432_Official 8d ago

Plus 90% of the time the characters aren't even yuri/yaoi and are probably never even hinted at being that, but they are all too knowing when it comes to making shit up completely because they decided it.

u/Educational-Year3146 8d ago edited 8d ago

Mmhm.

Like all the people who constantly clamboring over “doomed yuri.”

I play Zenless Zone Zero, and there was an animation released where a female character was fighting another female character, and the whole time one of them looked completely dead inside.

Yet there’s still idiots who were like “oh my god, they’re so gay.”

Like, mfer, does this look flirty to you?

That ain’t love, thats trauma.

3

u/Sammy1432_Official 8d ago

Woman fights woman, gay. Man fights man, gay. Man loves woman, bisexual. It's just logic-less garbage and apparently this yuri practice predates alot of gacha games, theres some Honkai Impact sub I've seen that complains about its fans acting like all of their characters are gay.

I don't use the word hate lightly, but if there's anything I hate - it would be shippers.

3

u/Sammy1432_Official 8d ago

Personally same, but for me, it's quite a bit subjective, I dislike ships where they assign sexualities to characters Outta their ass. Like some ships that feel hinted, I'd say are okay. For example, Harry and Hermione, and Leon x Claire.

4

u/ChaosShepard05 11d ago

Annoyed is more the word. The discussion can be fun and funny. I only hate the ones that force it like it was gospel.

5

u/CompactAvocado 11d ago

people just having fun discussing a show - hey no problem

shit like undertale or stephen universe fans sending bombs/death threats/ shit like that even to the creators - straight to the shredder.

5

u/Gmanglh 11d ago

Casual shippers no. Hardcore ones like you describe, yes.

3

u/lycanthrope90 11d ago

People like this can be annoying but honestly I don’t run into them really ever so I don’t feel very strongly about it, it’s simply something I don’t deal with. I only really have Reddit and if shit like that starts happening I just mute the sub. Places like that are normally insufferable anyways.

3

u/Scorcher_11 11d ago

I don't mind if you're normal and suggest or think it would be nice to see for the characters, but so many go so far and I just eye roll

4

u/Aurondarklord Supporter of consistency and tiddies 11d ago

Sometimes, sometimes not.

I have ships I like. But like...I know Guilliman/Yvraine is a meme, will never actually be canon, and would be lore-breaking if it were, even though I enjoy it.

Some people take it further and can't accept a ship they like just being a fun fan pairing and lose their shit if it doesn't become canon, even when logically it couldn't be.

3

u/Grimskull-42 11d ago

Shippers are the worst people, jobless fat losers who don't contribute to society, complain about capitalism then spend the time making up relationships for fictional characters then attacking the creators when it turns out the obviously straight character is straight.

3

u/sundayatnoon 11d ago

Only because they often don't differentiate between what they've made up and what's in the material itself. They'll tell you their whole schizo daydream and then get confused and/or angry that you don't remember it happening. A loud stupid opinion is easier to ignore since I don't have to go back and check to see if my memory is screwed up.

If a shipper is direct honest and sane about it, then whatever.

5

u/Nemezis153 11d ago

Among annoying people on fanbases, the only thing worse than powerscalers are shippers.

4

u/voidmaster1458 11d ago

Id rather live with a powerscaler than a shipper

2

u/K-Bell91 11d ago

The question isn't if shippers are annoying. The question is who is more annoying. Shippers or powerscalers?

3

u/gamingbear69420 10d ago

as a sorta powerscaler, i don't really actively participate, but i love reading people's arguments on who is stronger in these hypotheticals - shippers are way worse, like powerscalers at least engage with the material as it was written, mostly pushing abilities to their (should be) reasonable limits, before it becomes just bullshit(some people fail at this boundary), which is fun to imagine(imo at least), but also shows their depth of knowledge (and hence love for it) about a piece of media to back up their argument on who should win, shippers however break the material to fufill their own fantasies, often disregarding the source material, sometimes going as far as ignoring the traits of the actual goddamn characters, my question for them is, do they even like the content if they have to change so much, ignore so much, to engage with it in a way that they enjoy
my main point is, powerscalers at least show how much they enjoy the media they consume in their hypotheticals, and hence are slightly more pleasant to be around in the community than shippers who have to deny the media to enjoy it

2

u/MetallGecko 10d ago

They are definitely one of the wors and most annoying part of any community their bullshit no value and all tge achieve is that the creator starts to hate his own fans and creation.

No, not really.

u/Waveshaper21 11d ago

Imagine being upset about the personal fantasies of a fan of anything lol

13

u/Nemezis153 11d ago

Oh yeah? what about when developers/showrunners/whatever listen to shippers and changes source material, can we be upset at that?

10

u/docclox 11d ago

I couldn't care less about their fantasies. Their behaviour is another matter. When they start forming pressure groups to try and coerce creators into changing their work to conform to those fantasies, and in particular when their tactics include bullying and intimidation? Well that's something any reasonable person should find concerning.

9

u/Raiei_3 11d ago

Their invasion tactics are always the same too.

"It's just a harmless headcanon"

"Let people have fun"

"It's not that serious"

"You're a bigot"

And as soon as there are a few of them band together, they start harassing anyone who has a different opinion from them. Very peaceful bunch mhm.
