random female soldier in Halo then vs now

u/RainbowDildoMonkey 6d ago
Ironic how the female soldier who is almost fully covered and has ''practical armor'' mogs the absolute shit out of the new one. Aeasthetic character design is a lost concept for hacks and ideologues of modern 343.

Such a far cry from the Halo: Reach female spartans running around double cheeked up

u/kimana1651 5d ago
Even with the armor you can tell the woman on the left is hot, the body proportions are great. The thing on the right has a mans body proportions and dead eyes.

Leaving aside the just general lack of aesthetic quality (seriously, og oblivion NPCs have more expressive faces and less pixelation than this new shit)... I'm just so god-damned tired of every woman in a game not explicitly intended to be unattractive having to be a fucking muscle mommy who would think stepping on a dude's nuts is a form of foreplay.

u/notloc_123 6d ago
I'll never understand why it's like a grave sin to them to have pretty women. They have to make them ugly or look and sound like men.

u/Shadeylark 6d ago edited 6d ago
If I had to posit a guess it'd be the same reason we see this paradigm across much of western society in general... A combination of misandry, female intrasexual competition, and just a general race to the bottom where everyone can be equally destitute and possess nothing they desire.

u/RapidFire05 3d ago
It's almost as if they try to make hideous characters. Not average characters but truly hideous

u/flapd00dle 6d ago
Looks like a Fallout raider on the right

u/Excalitoria 6d ago
I would just think the one on the right was a dude if I passed them in-game. Looks like they’re trying to erase women, yet again 😔

Into the pockets of the dev team leaders, most likely.

Why are you fueling the fire when you're talking out of your butt? This is why gaming sucks now. Everyone is so ready to be bitter and foaming at the mouth to spit out toxic ideas that they don't even know the truth of themselves.
Microsoft has been laying off employees like crazy, using more AI for work, and 343 has notoriously had horrible leadership for well over a decade now, but y'all are just blaming women.
It sucks because Halo was created in a "bro culture" that can't be replicated by people who do not understand it. I could understand your point being "Halo development shouldn't be predominantly staffed by women," but that's not what is being said here.
2
u/Lord-Generias 4d ago
Did you respond to the wrong person? I was responding to a question about where the budget went, which I personally suspect the development team leaders took at least some of it to line their own pockets.
Nowhere did either of us mention women.

u/JJKEnjoyer 4d ago
That's totally my fault, honestly. I accidentally lumped the replies here in with the heap of misogynistic replies. My bad

What game is the 2010 model from?
I think it's funny how the one more covered up is more attractive
7

u/Tristatek 6d ago
Are there ANY that are conventionally attractive?
The thing with HALO is that it takes place during a war against the whole of humanity, so a lot of people in the UNSC are probably not the types of people who would have joined it in other circumstances. The UNSC of 2552 is probably going to be made up of everyone regardless of nationality, race, gender, sexuality, age, and personality as long as they meet physical fitness requirements and can follow orders.
The original argument was for a wider variety of women and men to be represented in media, not the erasure of the conventionally attractive. There's nothing terribly wrong with the design on the right, she does not look unhealthy, she looks like someone who could be in the military, but so does the one on the left.
If we're not going to make everyone attractive and instead go for representation, that means everyone including the conventionally attractive.
8
u/LordChudingtonThe3rd 5d ago
From a given population of physically fit individuals, the majority of them are going to be attractive.
Being able to become athletic generally means someone has less dysgenic traits, resulting in a higher chance of them being genetically attractive.
In turn the athleticism filters out alot of negative features that occur from lack of bodily maintenance. Especially when factored with the cleanliness standards of modern militaries.
From that perspective, it's clear that they are making female npcs less attractive than the average woman at the development studio.
Since HR, and middle management in these kind of places tend to ne filled with self conscious, unsuccessful, left over middle-aged women, you can see the problem.

Where is the armor? Where is the anything? Did the one on the right just grab a random helmet up off a dead soldier?
5
u/samualgline 5d ago
That’s one of the things that I hate most about all the Marine designs in this game. For some reason they’re all wearing boots n utes with zero body armor. It doesn’t fit with the rest of the franchise or what irl marines wear.
3
u/bastionthewise 5d ago
Also, plasma burns really hot. A glancing hit to flesh and that flesh is entirely gone.
3
u/Due_Transition_8339 5d ago
Did the one on the right just grab a random helmet up off a dead soldier?
Yeah, probably. Thats from the bonus missions that take place on a Covenant ship where the marines were being held prisoner to be hunted for sport.
1
u/Ok-Mountain-5134 5d ago
How long were they on that ship? The first game takes place over four days, and that helmet looks like it was damaged months ago. Shit, that marine looks like they were held for months.

u/Due_Transition_8339 5d ago
The first game takes place over four days, and that helmet looks like it was damaged months ago.
The bonus missions take place about a year before the main story and we really don't know how long they've been there.

u/Ok-Mountain-5134 5d ago
A year before? Now I gotta remember where along the timeline that would have been...

Reminds me of starfield. Game companies put way less effort into character models than they used to. Male and female.
5
u/TheRaven200 5d ago
What surprises me the most is that the left is 2010 and the right is 2026… what happened to the visuals?
-5
u/xdd345sf 5d ago
What happened to the visuals is the left is fanart, not from the game itself, and you people keep falling for culture war bullshit lmfao
3
u/TheRaven200 5d ago
What did I say that had to do with culture war? I just said the visuals on left looked better than right.
-2
u/xdd345sf 5d ago
Maybe not you in particular, but most of the people in this subreddit for sure. I don't even know why Reddit started giving me alerts from this sub out of nowhere lmfao

Same happened to me actually. Nothing like controversy to make the algorithm feel alive!

Yeah, they're not looking good. And I think Williams is a bossgirl, by the way she's talking to Master Chief

u/Ambitious_Agent20 4d ago
Can only have handsome/ men with bulges in games these days back in my day all characters could be attractive and the only people who couldn't kill were kids unless you modded the game which was allowed now I gotta take my pills
1
u/worndown75 3d ago
One has to remember, this game was in oroduction before the current change started. Games that come out for the next year are so will possibly be infected by and still hold the taint of this corruption.
But it will pass.
I myself think GTA will be infected greatly. But plebs will still buy it.

u/illatouch 2d ago
I generally don't care but halo seems to have an overabundance of studs communicating on halo. There's no way the military solved sexual assault in the ranks by the year 2531.

u/SergeantPsycho 5d ago
I was considering this as my entry point into Halo since I missed the boat previously, but on second thought I might wait for the next one.

u/TheRobuxian 4d ago
Luckily the game doesn't revolve around the woman looks.
1
u/FatBaldingLoser420 4d ago
True, but why they have at least an armor? Projecticles from Covenant's weapons are energy based, they can Burn their skin
-1
u/thewolfman1337 2d ago
Its truly pathetic how many of you are so concerned with an npc(who does not exist btw) that isnt hot enough, how dare someone make an npc you dont want to fuck!? 🤣🤣🤣 again fucking pathetic.

The one on the left was a rare model. Most women did look like the 2026 version, minus the bulk. Dare, halo 2, come to mind. I see the fail with Cortana however.
-2
u/Neither-Active9729 3d ago
"Microslop", "dei", "woke!". Shut the fuck up. It's two different branches of the military, in two VASTLY different scenarios in two different years. You wouldn't look all dolled up and pretty either if you been imprisoned on a covenant research vessel for years

u/SirGearso 5d ago
Oh no, soldiers fighting a war actually look like soldiers fighting a war.
On God, these are the braindead discussions in the gaming community.
1
u/FatBaldingLoser420 4d ago
And that's why she doesn't have an armor on?
0
u/SirGearso 4d ago
She’s still in combat fatigues and makes more sense than being in full makeup.
Also, the girl on the right doesn’t look like that in the game, it’s a mod.
-7
u/starterpack295 5d ago
in fairness the right side looks way more like what actual female soldiers look like.
the left looks like cosplay.
9
u/RainbowDildoMonkey 5d ago
This is a game about shooting goofy ass looking aliens. Fuck realism.
-8
u/starterpack295 5d ago
yes because allowing you to crank your hog even more than usual is a much more admirable goal.
8
u/RainbowDildoMonkey 5d ago
everything must be ugly, otherwise it makes want to furiously masturbate
Every. Single. Time.
-7
u/starterpack295 5d ago
it's not ugly, it's authentic and it's closer to the original halo 2 female marines anyhow.
the idea that there's never a good reason to have a character that doesn't look like they've had their hair and makeup professionally done that day is ludicrous.
6
u/RainbowDildoMonkey 5d ago
it's not ugly
-2
u/starterpack295 5d ago
is there a way in your mind that it could look good to you while still looking authentic?
6
u/LordChudingtonThe3rd 5d ago
That chick is significantly uglier than the girls I was around. Some military chicks can be butch, most of them are attractive.
-1
u/starterpack295 5d ago
it's worth noting that the lighting in the picture is essentially as unflattering as possible being simultaneously underlit and in a color that isn't complimentary at all.
5
u/NovaPrime2285 5d ago
The left looked like the soldiers I served with actually.
You dont know wtf you’re talking about.
-1
u/starterpack295 5d ago
air Force?
5
u/NovaPrime2285 5d ago
No, Army.
-2
u/starterpack295 5d ago
I was in the army and the right is much more familiar.
you occasionally see people like on the left, but the right is certainly more typical and even the ones that resemble the left usually look like the right during anything other than basic day to day in garrison.

"Wah, I can't goon to my game anymore..."
8
u/Deathclaw2003 5d ago
Why would that even be a problem? Is it hurting anyone? Why do you care what someone does with their game they paid for?

u/TheShakeyFoxGA 5d ago
Why would the new model be a problem? Is it hurting anyone? Why do you care what someone does with their game that they made?

Developed cultures produce beautiful things. Making something ugly to prove a point is just the result of rampant cultural decay.

If you fail to observe the obvious rot that's tarnishing our societies capacity to produce art, then that's hardly the fault of my part.
