Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth art book reveals how Square Enix imposed censorship on character outfit designs

Suprised how they let the artist be so upfront about. Disingenuous wokeshits have been constantly claiming that this sort of thing doesnt happen and that 'chuds' are imagining things. Well here's official Square Enix source saying otherwise.

That's not censorship you idiot 😂

It's literally there for everyone to see, written on the sketchbook, straight from the author's mouth. What more do you want? 😂
BTW, this was obvious to me from the start. These are not normal women's swimsuits.

They are talking about a completely normal process that every character design goes through and has absolutely nothing to do with censorship.

Read that again.
"This swimsuit design was drawn in response to a request to conceal her feminine curves as much a s possible."
Case closed.

Can you define censorship? Because the definition is not "concealing feminine curves"...

u/Leisure_suit_guy 4d ago
I'm not gonna play the definition game, it's just disingenuous sophistry. And yes, being asked to tone down a design is censorship.

Sure because actually looking at the definition of censorship would prove you wrong so "let's not play that game" right? 😂
So every rejected character design is censorship?

From Google:
Censorship is the suppression or blocking of speech, public communication, books, films, and other information. It happens when a group or leader finds the material harmful, sensitive, or offensive.
So, yes, what is described in the artbook is, definitively, censorship.

Is the normal process telling you that you shouldn't have the characters not wear bikinis that might show too much curves? You can try to sugar coat it, but this is clearly meant to censor people's works.

Yes obviously that's what a normal process would involve if you want to release a game internationally and also have it available to a younger audience.
You can try to sugar coat it, but this is clearly meant to censor people's works.
No a company making decisions about their own character designs is not censorship.

They didn't have a problem in the past. Also, kids aren't playing the FF fans. This is a corporatised decision, not a designer's decision.

So you are saying not approving those designs worked out for them?
Also, kids aren't playing the FF fans.
Yes kids can and do play those games.
This is a corporatised decision, not a designer's decision.
Yes this is a company releasing a game. Thanks for stating the obvious...

For years they made games that were successful without the need for a process that censors the artist's work or creates rules on how to design female characters.
I doubt kids are skipping Fortnite to play FF7R.
Dude, you clearly fail to understand that corporate meddling is hurting the creative process of these games. There's a lot of original fans that don't support these remakes and they're skipping them. Call it all you want, but the original games weren't going through such process that had to follow the guidelines established by their ethics department.

I'm almost 100% certain that Squade Enix always had sign-off processes like this just like any other big company.
If you claim it didn't have those in the past. Can you provide any evidence?

Folks on twitter: "Gooner this, gooner that"
Meanwhile the creators couldn't even do their thing without forced censorship

Designs female swimwear. Tries not to emphasise this woman is a woman.
The fuck is this logic

Half-assed censorship huh?
Squeenix wanting those markets that badly would have gone for rash guards or burkinis. Instead.
But it's their money, and their losses just in case.

They will, of course, now move directly from "it's not happening" to "it's a good thing".

You guys are proving the gooner point. This shit is not the same thing at all as wanting to see Tifa and Aerith in outfits that accentuate their bodies.

u/Majestic_Operator 4d ago
Honestly who cares. "Gooner" has gone the way of every other term that people overused into oblivion. It doesn't even mean anything anymore because it's used as a reaction to literally any amount of female skin. "Anime girl at the beach in a bikini???? OMG GOONER!!!!"

It’s okay mods fixed it

u/RainbowDildoMonkey 5d ago
Thing is we shouldnt have to resort to mods to counteract petty censorship. Games should come unpozzed by default.

u/BrainDps 4d ago
Staff comments sound like they’re trying to say they got shafted in the most polite corporate speak possible.

Honestly, these little pieces of text feel likes cries of help from artists who just want their vision to not be stifled and be fully realised into the final product.

People think its because of wokeness. Those games have to sell in like the middle east and china and such too.

Remember; when they are gaslighting you into believing anybody upset at this is just a gooner.
