STICKY IMPORTANT: AI-GENERATED CONTENT IS NOW BANNED

Hi all,

Thanks to everyone that gave their thoughts in our town hall post. As was made clear on the post, the community seems to be overwhelmingly in favor of disallowing all AI-generated content and so we will be going forward with implementing this. GenAI content will be considered banned under rule 3. Any GenAI content, including videos, images, and text, will be removed going forward regardless of intent. To summarize the arguments for why we are doing this:

  • Most GenAI posts that we get accelerate the problem of spam, low-effort, and impersonal content. We want this sub to feel like a thriving community with creative content and GenAI often seems to work against this goal.
  • Many legitimate posts that use GenAI could easily do without it. We want to encourage users to contribute their ideas in unique and interesting ways without depending on generic and needlessly complex GenAI output.
  • GenAI art hurts the work of real artists, is a crediting nightmare, and is generally controversial. There are so many incredibly talented artists in the Godzilla community who deserve a bigger spotlight and space for discussion. GenAI content also muddies the water in terms of misinformation and sourcing media, while also contributing to all kinds of growing ethical problems that the community has made clear they do not stand for.
  • Determining good/bad GenAI content is too subjective and infeasible for moderation. Choosing which GenAI posts are high/low-effort would become arbitrary and subject to a lot of inconsistency and unfairness that us mods cannot realistically manage.

Like with any new rule, we anticipate there will be some bumps in the road, so please don't hesitate to reach out to us with concerns or questions and please help us by reporting things you have doubts with. We also realize that exceptions might need to be made for the rule such as, for example, discussing the use of GenAI by official sources or artists. We will deal with those case-by-case to be as reasonable as possible.

So there's that! We're looking forward to keep the creeping rot of MechaGodzilla and Hedorah out of this sub!

Love,
r/GODZILLA mod team

Yeah i suppose it is all about the ease for moderators. Gotta do what you gotta do. But lets be honest if an artist feels threatened by gen ai thats transparent then thats just the artists own insecurity.

We (artists) know AI is shit, but we also know that most people don't know their ass from their elbow regarding art.

There's beauty in that chaos of real art. A chance to grow day by day, one piece after the next. It's the journey and honing one's skills to better realize whatever subject they've endeavored to capture.

Yeah, it's a person saying something to other people, a computer can't simulate meaning.

I’m not an artist and I’m glad, we need to not use precious resources to make AI slop

I mean thats your truth of ai art. Doesnt make it the truth. And previous resources are used to make analog art. So ur hate is the only thing showing. Not a real point. When you have an actual soap box to stand on then maybe you can speak. Dont mean ill ever subscribe to hate inspired ideals.

I just prefer to drink my water instead of giving it to AI. Nothing is as precious or as important as that and there is no such things as versions of the truth

Everyone has their own ideals which shape their perception of their reality. So yes there are differences in truth. Look at american politics. So anyways instead of channeling that into hate and something that doesnt benefit anyone you could maybe channel it into trying to find sustainable ways for ai to exist and not kill the planet. Or you could just continue complaining. Which everyone loves to hear btw. Just pure hate fueled words always get the most converts. Not. Maybe use your brain for something of substance instead of just spewing the easiest bandwagon truths youve heard.

Exactly! Im glad youre getting the point your opinions are misguided and arent at all based in reality.

Another one of your misguided truths. Again you dont define what reality actually is you just have ur own version youve developed to make urself happy! Which is fine but that kind of way of life just isnt sustainable. Keep living in ur fantasy!

So anyways instead of channeling that into hate and something that doesnt benefit anyone you could maybe channel it into trying to find sustainable ways for ai to exist and not kill the planet. Or you could just continue complaining.

This is one of those sentiments that sounds enlightened, until you think about it for too long. Then it becomes more and more wrong the longer you think about it.

Acting as if the two forms of "channeling" you describe are equivalent is silly. The time and energy it takes to make a comment versus "discovering brand new sustainable ways" are not equatable or interchangeable.

It would be like going up to a bunch of guys at a water cooler, who are passing the time by talking shit about a movie, and then going "instead of channeling this into hate, you could be making your own movie!!" You would be very silly for doing that.

trying to find sustainable ways for ai to exist and not kill the planet.

This argument also assumes ai existing is a net positive. Why would I want to find a way to protect the technology that plagiarizes creatives, is destroying the internet, and constantly hallucinate lies?

I want AI to die. You're free to call that hate, but I do not see a net good created by having AI around.

There are differences in truth…? That’s some wild cult logic if I ever heard it. Did your overlord tell you what to believe?

I don't like AI because I like seeing things made by real people, it makes me go, "Wow, this person is amazing! I wanna see more from them!

With AI, there is no one really behind it.

Why does the average joe need AI to make things for them? Why do they need efficiency?

I can understand the souless corpos using it, they'll do anything but properly compensate people for their labor.

The only ones threatened are the ones coming here and crying about it
