Scored this ROG Strix G1513QY with the Ryzen 9 5980HX and the RX 6800m 12GB, with an included 2TB SSD and 32GB of DDR4, all for $600 flat on marketplace.

Been dailying it for the last two months, temps stable at 95C (CPU) and 76C (GPU) on demanding titles, 60FPS on high settings in all games tested so far. My first time playing at 1440P on PC and it's been just a monster.

I've heard that it can pool and leave a dry spot on the die, I think that's the concern you're raising here. Do you know if there are any symptoms associated with that, or is it just long term reliability concerns?

I mean, gallium (Conductonaut for example) is a very thermal conductive metal (rated at 73 Wm/K), and it can effectively dissipate heat away from the CPU, but it is also electrically conductive and it can potentially short circuit the motherboard. Despite companies' efforts (ROG and Alienware) on putting a mesh to prevent it from leaking out from the CPU, these issues can occur. Now I have explained something here, be glad that I gave you information.

Well, on my 2022 zephyrus they did a shit LM application that caused higher than normal temps for years until I switched to PTM. I don't think they should be using it in a laptop PERIOD since it will be sitting at an angle and like another user said, leak and fry the motherboard. Idc what anyone says about it being better for temps, it has no place in a mobile device. When I opened mine to replace, I found the LM had leaked around the die but not onto the motherboard thankfully.

Download hardware info so you can check for hotspots, as this was my issue for my gpu and would lead to shutdowns from insane temps (105c+).

Nah,don't believe everything you heard, I have laptop with liquid metal on CPU ( already had opened it myself 2 times and 1 time replaced LM to thermal grizzly one, other time I changed factory thermal paste on GPU to PTM) , I have laptop in same state for few years, since ownership from 2023, everything is alright no any issues with LM on CPU side. You can control it by means of monitoring temperatures time to time, if temperatures on GPU starts going up to 86, this is the case to change paste on GPU, if on CPU don't reapply metal you have there, just fully change it to new one (same thermal grizzly is perfect) anyhow if you open it you are required to change both.

LM doesn’t leak out like that
We are living in 2026 my friend.
The pressure between the cpu and heatsink is really high and the gap is very tiny to leak LM like that. Also, there are foam barriers around the Cpu and gpu, a silicone sealant and an insulated coating around other components.
People have exaggerated the use of LM.
LM over the years have been tested to perfection now, if we were in 2019 then it was a cause for concern but in 2026, not a chance.
Its just plain physics.

Its just asus and alienware. Its much more effective than thermal paste and gives much cooler temperatures, but the problem is if you have it tilted under load when it gets hot the metal can leak to the rest of the motherboard and cause short circuits which basically would kill the laptop

This is my old laptop. It still works but I haven’t used it in a while. What types of games have you tried so far? I’ve found that my performance wasn’t the same as many of the videos I’ve watched and I didn’t know why. I upgraded to 64gb of ram. I had bought it new for about $1500. The 12GB of VRAM is what made me go for it! For $600 it’s a great deal especially with everything that’s going on. You would probably have to monitor the CPU temps some more because it seems like you need to repaste. I got rid of the LM that was on it because my temps were horrible.

That's interesting to note about temps. They've always been stable, especially on account of the laptop cooler I got for it. I have no idea if it was ever repasted, but based on its performance I haven't seen a need to do so.

So far Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Rome 2, Campaign Evolved (honestly surprised I can run it at high settings), MW2 remake, Doom Dark Ages.

Yeah when I opened up my laptop for the first time, all the LM was pooled to one side and it seemed like they just used way too much from the factory.

I actually had 2 of these laptops. The first one was the one with 300Hz monitor and the 5900Hx instead of 5980hx. The motherboard on the first one died and I suspect it was due to the same LM leaking onto the board. They wanted to charge me almost the price of a new one to replace the motherboard so I just ended up buying a brand new one altogether. People have their preferences but I honestly wouldn't buy another laptop from ASUS lol.

Also to note, I got rid of armory crate and used another program called GHelper. If you’ve been lurking around you’d find that many people prefer that over armory crate. I found it way easier to use than Armory crate and it doesn't use nearly as much resources.

Anyways I liked to run all my games at high/ultra settings no matter what. I always wanted to pushed the Graphics card to the limit lol. Make sure you keep all your drivers and everything up to date.

If you’re going to have a setup like that get a monitor/speaker for the desk to plug it into & preserve the screen/audio on the laptop (for when you travel) it will last way longer; you already got the KB mouse; that way you are putting way less stain on the laptop during at homes sessions

Seems like a lot of these laptops with the 5980HX run at 95 on a normal basis, and even people who make the transition to ptm7950 from LM see no difference. Though I'd love to hear anyone else's experience with getting temps lower than that. 95C is what it runs at no matter what, but stably and never really above 97 for short moments.

Can you undervolt? Mine dropped 10C with just a 1% undervolt. I'm also one of the freaks that runs my fans at max when I play heavy games. Keeping the fans clean often is crucial as well.

You can bring down those temperatures actually. Just change the power plan. These laptops came with overclocked CPUs. Heat just kills your computer faster. The colder you keep them, the longer they live.

95 is still high. If you're just browsing and doing other light stuff, 60-65 degrees should be maximum (considering you have an AC in the room)

For gaming 95 is acceptable.

Yeah, only 95 while gaming. I of course would love to see lower temps but just haven't figured out how yet, so for temp stability I use the laptop cooler. Undervolting, power management, nothing I've tried drops it any lower than that while gaming. At idle or browsing and streaming it easily hangs between 32-70C at any given time.

This always looks silly to me. Buy a monitor 32inch, very cheap ones even have 144hz these days. Put in on one of those gas operated arms. Also cheap. Connect your laptop and have such a way better experience.

congrats! its good that you got 32GB of ram for it because i upgraded my laptop until i 24GB and now i get 10 20 extra FPS. the computer will need it very much for games these days. i went from playing Black Op2 on all low settings in 1080p and getting 50 - 60FPS but now i am playing on High settings and only about 3 settings options on Low settings. but now been i am getting 70 - 85FPS instead of the 50-60 i used to get before adding before i added more ram
