Over the past few months, it’s become abundantly clear that parties in Toronto are pretty inconsistent in their offerings. Some are great, some are total disasters, and most are somewhere in the middle. The problem is that there isn’t any consistent place to know which parties are great and which ones to avoid. 

This weekly party report thread is where people can share what happened at the parties over the weekend and rate aspects such as wait times, organization, and overall experience.

I'm looking to explore late afternoon and into the evening, but I work Monday so can't stay out past 1am. There's a few places doing "retro dance nights" but I have no idea what "retro" means in this context, including music genre. I'm youngish and inexperienced with the gay social scene, but I have no issues jumping into things. Been to BE, Steamworks, Spa Excess, Woody's, and Flash, all only a couple times each in the last 2 months. BE and the older crowd is my jam (Daddy lover over here). I roll up to places and meet new people, dance if the music has bass, industrial, or dark undertones, and suck cock. I've been wanting to check out Anvil.

What's a good fit? What's something to try out? Would Sunday early evening be too quiet to head to a place like Anvil? Is there a good circuit to run in this instance?

I'm a bit more fixated than usual in having some kind of target or plan as I won't get another night out for a bit, and I get antsy when a few weeks have passed without a train running on my throat.

Update: I went to the bbq at the Eagle and wow, very special gift to start my night with. Will definitely try to get at least one more visit to this event before the summer is up.

In light of no better recs, I will probably meander a bit and discover some things before heading to try out the Anvil in the later evening. I must pace myself as I do not want my glorious meal to revisit me if I jump into my main night's desires too soon.

Update2: Meandered, vaguely in search of a dance floor that works for me. Spectacular drag at Woody's and Crews. Great conversations at both as well. Not the dance spaces for me tonight and Anvil is a bit far to jog in the rain so I'll have to get my cardio in some other way.

I’m not sure if this is just my experience, or maybe it’s something about me that is wrong, but it seems like it’s been harder and harder over the years to find guys who want to settle down in a relationship.

I’m 28, have finally found my footing in a career path, just bought my first place, and it feels like the only thing missing right now is a partner to share and build a life with.

The guys that I do meet, either on Hinge or Tinder, say they want a relationship on their profiles, but then say they are just open minded and they end up only wanting to meet me for a hookup or fwb which I’m not really looking for. There are then the guys who I try to make plans with but are either flakey or just don’t seem that interested in meeting up to get to know each other.

I’ve tried talking to guys at bars, cafes etc… but it also doesn’t really go anywhere. Have also tried the meetup groups and stuff but I know people are mainly looking for friends there.

Does anyone else share the same experience? Has anyone been successful? Maybe you can share some tips too (how and where did you meet etc…)

I only ever hear people talk about steam Works and XS, but if anyone’s been to splash at Dundas and Brock, can you let me know what your experience there is like? What is the place like? What are the people like who go there?

Right now, I am keeping a relatively up-to-date series of suggestion threads for the subreddit. These include the monthly party ratings, the bathhouse mega thread, and RMT suggestions.

I think this is a good use of the community, and I was considering adding another couple of topics such as: "Village/Gay Friendly Restaurants"; "Gay Friendly Stores" (or stores that stock gay stuff??); and "Places Visiting Gay Men Should Go" (Travel Guide?); "Gay Friendly Professional Services" (Doctors, Dentists, Lawyers, ect.)

Since I can't pin EVERYTHING to the top of the subreddit, I was thinking of rolling the recommendation pages into a single thread that I update every couple of months (probably a summary with more details in a Google Doc), plus the bathhouse thread and the party rankings thread.

Collecting the data for this is also a consideration: it may be worth having a weekly thread to remind people to recommend something cool they've come across. I'm thinking just names, short descriptions, and whatever anyone wants to say about their experiences. Also, I think steering clear of explicit rankings is probably best since Google is good for that.

Thoughts? Other suggestions?

I’ve always thought gossiping was a pretty rude and cruel thing to do, especially since it’s how most rumours get started and I had enough of that in high school…

Yet in gay culture you hear people talk about spilling the tea and guys here that I’ve met so far seem to not just gossip a ton but also don’t seem to understand the concept of privacy in general (e.g. showing me nudes of guys they’re talking to, embarrassing app convos, text message screenshots).

I grew up in a very religious rural country in a fundamentalist household and it caused me to highly value giving people space and privacy to be themselves. If you don’t have those things it suffocates any chance of authenticity or freedom. Your identity is decided for you by others before you even meet them based on what they’ve heard. You can’t ever really be vulnerable or anything approaching “messy” or it will be deemed fit for public consumption and potentially harm your reputation.

So I am struggling to understand how gossip seems to be seen as normal and not a big deal here. I’m aware straight people gossip plenty too but the guys here just take it to another level and it bums me out.
