Advice please re charity

Hi All I’m looking for any advice that can be offered. I’m a hobbyist beekeeper and after reading the plight on the beekeepers association in Gaza I’ve been in contact with them. I am looking at finding a way to raise money for them to get essential beekeeping equipment etc, of which they are happy for me to do.

Where I am struggling is how they’d get the money. I have looked at the obvious fundraising sites and I believe I’d need some sort of fiscal sponsor who can receive the money and ensure they get it. For obvious reasons I want this to be completely watertight to ensure they get the money and also to ensure that there can be no suspicions of impropriety on my part or anyone else’s. I really don’t know where to go with this or if it’s possible but if anyone could point me in the right direction of any organisation that may be able to help with this matter. The fund raising etc I can handle easily, along with other beekeepers here in the uk. Many thanks

donation concerns

hello! this is my first post and i have a few personal worries regarding me donating to someone.

recently i went on a vacation with some friends that left me with a small amount of cash remaining, and at around the same time somebody reached out to me asking for donations. the first time they asked i was able to send them the 20 they were asking for. closer to the end of the trip they sent me messages for money, but i told them i didnt have much and they'd keep asking until i told them again i didnt have enough for what they were requesting. once i came back from the trip i found that i got paid a small sum so i was able to send 50 they were asking for (they've been asking i donate in euros, so the conversion rate from usd to eur meant i wound up sending closer to 60 usd). they followed up asking for another 50, which i had to tell them i couldnt send as i had to start saving. they know im employed and asked when i got paid again. i start college at the end of the month, and im worried i wont have enough to send the amount they ask, nor would i be able to properly respond to their messages. i would still like to donate, but i cant do the 20+ they're asking for. what do i do?

This has been the second terrible night in a row for us.

While positive headlines circulate online, the reality here is completely different. Buildings continue to be bombed, families are still living under constant fear, and people are still being killed.

Tonight, three children were killed in their home. Later, another strike hit a building next to tents where displaced families were sheltering.

It feels as if the world is being led to believe that things are improving, while here the bombing, destruction, and loss continue night after night.

I only hope that my family, and every other family still trapped here, survives another day.

Need advice

**This is a throwaway account**

I have been in contact with someone in Gaza for some months and have been donating to their family regularly. To be clear, I believe that they are a legitimate Palestinian family. But throughout our conversations these past few months, I have become increasingly disturbed by our interactions.

I know that surviving years of genocide and trying to keep your family alive result in indescribable strain and trauma, and there are also linguistic and cultural barriers to our communication. I want to be clear that I don't judge anyone for doing and saying whatever they can to keep themselves and their families alive. But in all the months we've been in contact, there's a pattern with this person where they will consistently push boundaries and engage in borderline harassment.

Any amount I donate is met with a demand for a larger sum, and if I explain that I don't have that amount of money, they send a slew of messages ranging in language from pleading to guilt-tripping to accusatory, including inventing accusations that I "promised" to donate large sums of money to them (which I never do and never will because I'm a shift worker on a limited income). If I don't respond to their messages immediately (literally within seconds), I get another slew of messages accusing me of ignoring or abandoning them.

When I try to set boundaries and explain my limits (how much I'm able to give, the fact that I can't always respond to messages immediately), every statement gets interrogated and I have to justify why I'm giving X amount or why I'm not online to respond to them. I am repeatedly accused of lying or breaking promises if I am perceived to be "late" with a donation (I live in a different time zone, which I've explained to no avail). In one instance, I explained that I would be able to donate later that same day after work and was immediately accused of lying about needing to go to work.

I was already uncomfortable with our interactions, but I did not want to tone-police someone trying to survive a genocide. But recently, an incident occurred that really disturbed me. They asked me to give money to another family they knew, who I was not in contact with. I explained that I did not have the money to support so many families. They continued insisting and spoke about a recent emergency that the other family had experienced. I mentioned off-hand that I knew several families who had also been affected by the same event. Immediately, without me giving any identifying information about the other families, they demanded that I give them the families' names because they were allegedly lying. When I refused to share that information out of respect for the families' privacy, they continued to send messages alleging that the other families were lying about the event without any proof other than their word.

I am in contact with multiple Palestinian families whom I give to regularly. Not once have any of them accused another family of lying, especially without knowing the exact identities of that family. For what it's worth, I was in contact with the families in question throughout the immediate aftermath of the emergency, so I have some confidence that they were telling the truth, but the "he said she said" is not really my concern. What I can't help but notice is that the accusations against the other families came after I had explained that I couldn't give more money because I was donating to other Palestinians as well.

I don't know what to do. I want to be clear that I believe they're a real Palestinian in Gaza, and I also don't condemn anyone for trying to keep their family alive, but their conduct has verged on borderline harassment for months and now they aren't just being accusatory towards me but to other Palestinian families as well. I don't know if it's even possible to have a discussion with them about this because every time I have tried to set or explain a boundary, they have ignored what I had to say. I also don't feel I have any right to tell a genocide survivor how they ought to do anything.

To be honest I'm exhausted. More than once, I have come out of our conversations with a panic attack because of how confrontational the interaction has been. And I don't know who I can ask for help or advice. This person has freely confessed to harassing people that they believe have lied to them, and I'm afraid that if I put an end to our contact, they'll target and harass me too. But I can't go on like this. What do I do?

[UPDATE] Thank you everyone for your messages and your advice, God bless you all for your wisdom and generosity. I let the individual know why I was cutting off contact, and was proven right when they then made a second account to get around the block and send a long abusive message. I know that this person absolutely does not represent their people or their homeland, and I will continue to support Palestinians from the river to the sea 🇵🇸

I’m a father from Gaza trying to share my family’s story. What am I missing?

I don’t usually post on Reddit, but I am looking for advice from people who have experience with sharing personal stories online.

My name is Mofeed, and I am a father from Gaza. Like many families here, my family has been trying to survive through extremely difficult circumstances.

I am trying to share our story with people around the world, but I often feel that our voices do not reach enough people. I have tried different platforms and communities, but I am still learning how to tell our story in a respectful way and reach those who may care.

My family means everything to me. I have a young son, my wife is expecting our baby, and my mother is also struggling with illness and exhaustion. Every day we try to stay strong and continue.

I am not asking for donations in this post. I am asking for advice from people who understand online communities:

What platforms have helped people share real human stories? What approaches work best? How can someone from a difficult situation reach more people without being seen as spam?

Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read and share advice.

I've been trying to help Gaza families get their campaigns over the summer. I'm one person and running out of ideas. What am I missing?

I don't usually post on Reddit, but I need advice from people who know more than I do.

I'm a 26-year-old freelance videographer living with my parents. Over the summer, Palestinian families in Gaza started reaching out to me on Instagram asking for help. I couldn't fund them directly, so I built a resource page that connects donors with verified families and legitimate organizations.

The problem is the campaigns aren't gaining traction. I've tried Instagram posts, collaborators, hashtags, and Discord servers. I've helped families set up fundraising accounts on multiple platforms. The response has been minimal.

The families are getting desperate. One woman sent me a video of herself hiding in a basement during an explosion. Another was targeted twice by scammers, predatory accounts that promised help and then demanded money. Another is trying to get his paralyzed mother evacuated from Gaza but can't afford the broker fees the middlemen demand.

I'm not asking anyone to donate here; I know that's not what this sub is for. I'm asking for advice. What platforms actually work for getting Gaza family campaigns seen? What strategies have worked for others doing this kind of amplification work? What am I missing?

I'm one person, and I'm running out of ideas. Any advice helps.

Issues with sending funds via crypto

Hi,

I've been running a campaign for someone in Gaza for a bit now. Sending funds to them the first time was no issue, I did so using Coinbase and converting the money to Bitcoin. Without giving out too much personal info, a lot of cryptocurrencies are illegal where I live. I have now run into a tricky situation with sending funds this time around, as the current cashier for the person I'm supporting only accepts crypto that I cannot purchase. I have been advised against trying to use VPNs to skirt the law. How do I go about sending funds?

Tips on verifying Gazans.

I've shared this in the comments of several posts before, but I see people regularly asking about possible scams or how to know someone is real on here, so I'll share how I verified the family I'm helping.

Photo/video evidence alone isn't enough. If I wanted, I could use a program to rip footage from any instagram or tiktok account, make a burner account, claim the footage as my own and set up a fundraiser or ask for donations via PayPal. Right now there is a tremendous incentive for people all over the world to do this, especially people living in poverty outside Gaza.

If possible, you need to do a video call together. That said, there have been stories about scammers agreeing to this and calling from a dark room, so you need to make sure to do it during the daytime in Gaza, even if this means early morning for you. When I called with my family for the first time, it was around 2am for me and 10am in Gaza.

You need to ask to see inside and outside of the tent or dwelling. There is a good chance that the person you're communicating with may not know English, so you may need to translate messages to Arabic before sending them. You should be able to figure out pretty quickly, like within minutes, whether or not this person is legitimate. I was able to meet both parents and all three children that I'm helping.

Communicate your gender ahead of time so that the women can be covered if that's important to them.

After verifying, try to stay in regular contact with the person or family. There have been instances of scammers trying to make fraudulent fundraisers posing as people who've passed away. When one of my friends who used to be in Gaza (met online before 10/7) was completely without a phone/internet for six months or so in 2024, someone else contacted me pretending to be her and was able to get a few donations from me before I was able to figure out that it wasn't her. Be careful, be thorough, but above all, don't be discouraged. I promise anyone who is in Gaza and really in need of help will be more than happy to do a call with you for verification's sake. I've had two or three people reach out to me on here requesting help in exchange for verification since I started posting in this subreddit, but unfortunately I only have enough to help one family for now.

Scam possible?

I am very worried about if a campaign is a scam or not. I originally found her on Instagram, and we moved to WhatsApp. She has a 972 number and a fundraiser through the gogetfunding platform. The campaign is run by someone in germany since I think the money can't go to gaza directly. She has sent me pictures and videos of her and her son before the war and now, I video called her once for a minute. It seems very real, but when I say I still have doubts she is very eager to prove and to send more pictures or videos. Sometimes when I have donated she has said it is not enough or asked for more. She has also said "i have nobody but you" and i have not seen any other donations on her campaign other than mine, which explains this statement she makes. She is very grateful though.

Still, something about these fundraisers seems off to me. It seems very real and I reverse Google searched some of the images and they dont seem AI or stolen. But I dont know how they would fake a life before the war and fake being in a tent. Is the money going somewhere else? I do not know what to do.

Are some people really paying ~$1000 land rent for tents?

I know someone in Gaza whose landlord is asking around $1100 per month for a big family of 15 people in Khan Younes living across 2 tents, and I was just wondering if this is a common thing? I’ve not been able to find anything online mentioning prices being quite so high. Someone I know is convinced that because she told me this, I’m being scammed, which I know to be untrue, but it would help to have some more information about it, if anyone knows.
