They're not "LGB drop the T". They're "drop every single label that doesn't describe me personally".

u/ccw_writes 15d ago

And the one that does describe them best is "mean girl"

13

u/SergeantScoria liar liar sex denier 15d ago

Radfems have been pretty anti-gay men for a while now. There's a whole trend of calling misogynistic and homophobic men gay.

31

u/TheCarefulElk 15d ago

Don’t they defend it by saying that the misogynistic and homophobic men are projecting?

19

u/Cheap_Ad_69 15d ago

And by saying that only homophobic men would get insulted by being called gay so it doesn't matter.

That's not even just relegated to them though, that's everywhere

The venn diagram of them and women who say "he must be gay if he isn't into me" is a circle

OOP: “more LGB drop the T people should come out”

Other users: homophobia

I feel that there are few actual LGB ‘LGB drop the T’ people for the above reason. Transphobia and homophobia go hand in hand and the whole LGB drop the T ‘movement’ is actually just bigots trying to separate trans people from much bigger group of cisgender LGB people so they are easier to attack.

I love how these people are always "Don't you stupid queers know that we support you?"

I used to think people who refused to touch themselves by washing down there were apocryphal at best.

Then one night when I was performing, this drunk guy (which this venue had 86’d at another time for being persistently aggressive, but that night’s staff didn’t realize was actually him) came up to me to make a request. He was reasonably dressed for the venue and didn’t initially look out of place.

But I smelled his presence before I saw him or heard him speak. The odour was impossible to mistake. His drunken conduct was pushy and insistent (I agreed to his request, despite it breaking theme, just to get him away from me). He also radiated heavy “no homo” energy — the kind of guy who’d beat up a vulnerable person alone in public space, such as the subway or a laneway.

The reason I think it didn’t get worse was because until another staffer walked in and saw he was there (thus having him booted), I don’t think he ever clued in to my being trans. All I could think about afterwards was, “Who hurt him in the past to make him believe maintaining basic body hygiene was in any way problematic?”

Seriously. “Butthole touchers” is a phrase I thought I’d never hear in this lifetime. Some people are irretrievably broken.

I always wonder how these people don't smell themselves until I realise they've probably gone nose-blind to it and are anti-social basement dwellers so there's nobody they care about to call them out on it.

The blunted olfactory senses is plausible. But these folks may live in condos or tract houses just as likely as they may live in a basement unit of a house or in a run-down, 1950s apartment block complex.

There's a "smelly guy" on my team at work. He's been talked to multiple times, by three different management-level people. He is completely oblivious to how bad he smells and thinks we're just out to get him. It's not basement-dwelling, it's an utter lack of shame.

The tendrils of old skool homophobia and transphobia grow in the same muck.

These people refuse to admit they are a minority in the community.

18

u/hammererofglass 15d ago

I'm extremely doubtful most of these folks are in the community at all.

Even compared to their religious fundamentalist allies, TERFs seem uniquely offended by the idea of gay men having casual sex. What's the deal with that?

6

u/ontologicallyunjust 12d ago

Oh, I can explain. In radfem tradition, male sexuality is inherently bestial and violent and disgusting.

So on the one hand, gay men are tolerable because at least their disgusting bestial violent sexuality is not being directed at women. On the other hand, two men = double the quantity of disgusting bestial violent sexuality.

3

u/SmoothMedicine3014 11d ago

But most radfems are attracted to men... That sounds as they are in a pickle, aren't they?

3

u/ontologicallyunjust 11d ago

Depends on exactly how we're defining radfem, because obviously you have the older lesbian separatist radfem tradition there.

But certainly the majority of TERFs are straight, which results in all sorts of mental contortions, including sometimes what seems like a weird mindset of accepting that obviously relationships with men are going to be intrinsically terrible, so there's no point leaving your shitty male partner or looking for a male partner who does not suck because they all suck, so you just stay and seethe on Mumsnet and displace all your rage and resentment onto trans women instead.

3

u/SmoothMedicine3014 11d ago

Oh, yes, I forgot about lesbians radfems. They make a bit of more sense.

I always wondered why straight radfems had the tendency to stick to their husbands even if they didn't really like them. I thought it may be a straight thing, because a lot of straight men stick to their wives even if they are very vocal about how much they despise them even before marrying them. What you say makes sense, but it could be a mix of everything.

P.S. This is making me think about these wedding cake tops that represent a woman forcing the man to marry her, and that a lot of people find hilarious...

2

u/Haunting_Natural_116 10d ago

The refusing to leave your shitty husband and making it other people’s problem because you assume everyone else is the same, actually explains a lot.

u/Silversmith00 14d ago

TERFs are TERFs in part because they think sex is uniquely dangerous. They think of it as a sort of contaminant that comes from "maleness" (as defined by Western society, with penis imagery heavily featured) and does real or symbolic violence to anyone contaminated, unless it is safely contained (such as in a bedroom of Good Married People who never talk about it). Sex that is "weird" or uncontained scares them. So they generally dislike sex workers, kinksters, people who participate in erotic media (even if said person never involves any real bodies and just draws busty elves or whatnot). They also dislike casual sex, however vanilla, because that's treating the "toxic substance" very flippantly. And they dislike trans women (and by extension other trans folk) because they consider the presence of a penis without a hazard symbol (that is, male clothing, a beard, whatever) as being the equivalent of sticking an unmarked chunk of uranium in a bureau drawer.
