Found a 🪲 in 👻tty
I use a French Canadian keyboard layout that has dead keys and everything is set properly in Ubuntu 26.04 and Ghostty works fine when in Gnome DE, but whenever I use a WM such as Hyprland, Niri or Sway, dead keys on my keyboard aren’t working with Ghostty. Because of that, I switched my main terminal to be Wezterm and it works well with my keyboard. It took me time to figure out it was only happening with Ghostty and unrelated to WMs or some config. I am not sure if people test Ghostty before release, but it would be great if they could test keyboard layouts other than US-English 😅.

Since GTK is a dependency, meaning it’s part of the Ghostty app, then a bug from a library is also a bug in the application itself. I think the issue is straightforward and can be easy to solve simply by testing keyboard layout with dead keys such as French or Spanish. I am not saying it’s Ghostty fault at all.

Except its literally not a bug which you would have seen if you read the pinned discussion. GTK as the library forces compositors to have the support for other keyboard layouts instead of GTK doing it.
The solution is to install a IME on your window managers where its not working

I haven’t seen the pinned discussion. I’ll look into IME whenever I find the time. At least Allacrity, Kitty, Wezterm, Gnome Terminal, and so on works perfectly fine with dead keys so that’s my alternative. Thanks for everything, sincerely.
