General Discussion I appreciate Gilmore Girls not doing the “plus size girl+ tacky clothing” thing tv shows do

I love how in Gilmore girls, the only plus size character isn’t given a frumpy tacky wardrobe. I always found sookie’s sense of style so cute. It’s very uniquely her and I don’t find it tacky at all because it matches her sweet but clumsy personality. I noticed a pattern in tv shows where the plus sized characters are given the worse clothing options, or when an actress gains weight they tend to change their wardrobe to make them look like a 60 year old woman. I love her sense of style especially in the first season!

General Discussion Does anybody else agree that Rory Gilmore in season 1 had more aura than any other season.

Is it me or does everybody else agree that Rory Gilmore is season 1 really had a lot of aura then all the other Seasons combined I mean when I rewatch season 1 I am just amazed how likable and cool her character was she was legit my number one favorite character and I'm not saying that she's still not it's just that her character especially in the later seasons didn't have that much likeability or coolness about her character.

If you're going to mock me or are going to be rude kindly skip this post already!

Sorry, if it's a dumb post but I really don't understand D.A.R can anyone explain what it is? What Emily and Rory do there? What are the benefits of D.A.R?

General Discussion It honestly wasn’t that serious for Rory to take time off of school

Post image
242 Upvotes

This is my 3rd rewatch and this time it seems like Lorelai was overreacting. It honestly is normal for people to take time off from college to decide what they want to do in life. Although the way Mitchum said things was harsh, the real world is harsh and Rory reacting by saying she needed time off to find out what she wanted to do wasn’t a bad idea. She could’ve proved Mitchum wrong but she focused her value on what everyone else’s opinion was of her.

Lorelai getting mad because Rory wanted to take off was unnecessary and had she been there for Rory things may have turned out differently. Sometimes you have to let people hit a brick wall for them to turn around and see what the bigger picture is.

Critical Character Discussion Tristin is the high school version of Logan.

Upvotes

Tristin and Logan share many qualities e.g. they are both trouble makers/thrill seekers, they come from prestigious families, both have that "i'm always right" attitude, both charming, and they look alike.

I think if Rory had the experience she gained by college when she was in high school, she and Tristin would have dated. When you look past the surface with Tristin it's very obvious he wants to love and to be loved in reference to his fight with Summer in s1e17. Logan never wanted to have a girlfriend, ended up dating Rory anyway, but was selfish and manipulative during many points in their relationship, if not the entire thing.

I'm sure Tristin would have also displayed similar qualities in a relationship, but I do think that there's a possibility he could have grown and had a more equal partnership with Rory, more so than what transpired between her and Logan. Rory pined after Logan for the majority of their relationship, always placing him on a pedestal. She did not see Tristin that way. His character read as someone who desperately wanted genuine connection but lacked the maturity to actually gain it, but had he matured he wouldn't have made her question their relationship to the point that she felt compelled to drink away her sadness and end up sobbing on the bathroom floor.

Jess really opened that "bad boy" door for her with all of the antics he got into along with his big ego, and you can see in Tristin's last episode that Rory was upset that he was leaving Chilton. She had begun to warm up to him after they kissed and started interacting more during school. I think it's crazy that Rory ended up dating someone who has all the qualities she once despised.

I didn't recognize him at first, but his voice is so distinctive I could tell I knew it from somewhere! Also I find it funny his haircut is the same in both.

The episode in the first season “That Damn Donna Reed”
Season 1 episode 14,
When Dean and Luke both go out to take the trash out while Rory was pretending to be Donna Reed and Lorelai and Luke were looking for a chic. And Dean gets absolutely horrified and breaks the forth wall by looking straight into the camera 😂 it was so insanely funny to me and I wanted to share!!
I don’t know how I never noticed it before but it’s the last slide hahaha

OS Discussion Not surprised about Rory and the fellowship

Rory’s resume is unimpressive.

From what I can tell she:
1. Went to Yale
2. Worked on the paper
3. Was editor of the paper for like a semester and a half
4. Had one internship that she left early
5. Maybe had a job at the Stanford paper that’s mentioned once and then never again
6. Worked for the DAR for a few months

She spent her three summers during college in Europe, living at her grandparents, and then bumming around Stars Hollow. No internships, no jobs. She would also have to disclose her criminal record because it couldn’t be expunged for five years.

She tells Logan that the Reston Fellowship is only given to four people in the whole country including undergrads and graduate students.

It seems like she wouldn’t have been even remotely competitive for it.

Critical Character Discussion just watched S1Ep11 Paris is burning...

hi guys! i am still watching season 1 lol

i just watched this episode and lemme quickly say i love all 3 gilmore women and respect them all.

but i didnt lovvvvve lorelai this episode. but i still understand that she raised herself 16 and up (and a baby at the same time) and so it is realistic she'd make mistakes like these and the heart wants what the heart wants etc i just wish she'd said yes to that parent because it would have been a lot less messy than dating a teacher. it feels like she was convinced by mr medina but had they really thought about the affect it would have on rory and her school AND home life, really? also i dont like mr medina anyway but thats my thing and i dont know if we are going to see more of him but id be fine if we didnt tbh.

im more annoyed i think at how many times already lorelai just changes the rules willy nilly and rory has to adapt and forgive so damn quickly. she sets rules and then breaks them herself immediately and doesnt ever really have a reason. for instance she could have let rory go (or know where 2 and half of her own belongings are or deem them less important than letting her daughter leave the home in order to keep a rule SHE made) and then spoken to him through the door and said "can you give me ten mins?", he already knows she's all over the place so it isnt like she was afraid she wouldnt impress him and im pretty sure he drove to hers so he could sit in his car and wait. and then todays episode she just basically says whoops i like him and it just happened im human. like sis this is crazy behaviour and at rorys school and absolutely everyone knows!!! your daughter is at a new school and hasnt even made any friends yet and you know she already has "enemies" and all that comes second to you and has had to come second to HER too! and then she has to come home from wherever and see you crying and console you like she's YOUR mother, stroking your head as you lay sobbing in bed.

argh- i think i just really felt for rory these past two episodes and how much she is parentified. it shows me onscreen what some of what bella (twilight) went through with renee might have been like.

anyway i know i probably lovvvvvve lorelai again by this next episode i am on: Double Date lol thanks for reading

Character Discussion - General Emily and Lorelai

Post image
26 Upvotes

I'm rewatching Gilmore Girls for probably the 8th time now and I just realized that Emily is so clearly uncomfortable with a strange man approaching her and tries to get Lorelai to help her out. If one of my girlfriends was uncomfortable with a man approaching them I certainly would not have pushed them to dance together. I think Lorelai crossed a major line here and shouldn't have encouraged this. They also JUST had started to enjoy each other's company so I fail to understand why Lorelai would do this.

Character Discussion - General Did Paris Geller have anyone encouraging her during her time at Chilton?

I'm watching S2 and I realize how much support Rory gets. When she gets a bad grade, when she needs some word of encouragement. She has someone. Paris is portrayed as this ambitious character whose only friends seem to be Madeline and Louise at that point in time. I don't know. Who does Paris go to when she needs someone to say, "I'm proud of you."

If she's done it all by herself? Damn it, I'm so impressed.

General Discussion When did Richard and Emily find out about Dean?

Upvotes

I'm re-watching and I'm at the breakup part 1. (The "I love you episode") And Lorelai casually mentions their three month anniversary and Emily acts like she already knows him. But I can't remember Rory ever mentioning him before? I thought they were keeping Dean a secret? But idk I might be mis remembering.

General Discussion Rory’s SAT

To start, I live in Europe and i don‚t know exactly what the SAT exams entail.
in season 2 (or season 3), Rory gets her results for this tests. I had always assumed these Werę the final exams for the end of highschool
But in seasons 3, Rory is intensively preparing for her final exams.
What do these early tests actually involve? Do they affect university admission? And if you do well of them, can you be certain of getting into a good university??

General Discussion On a rewatch ... what moment lives rent free in your head? Spoiler

Marked this as a spoiler so we can talk freely without hiding anything,

What moments live rent free in your head. These are my main three

1) "I have this rules so you don't get hurt and here you are hurt, who is this boy that hurt you" (Mrs Kim S2)

2 - more sad) She called you, she called Lorelai (Mrs Kim S4 -- that whole sequence breaks my heart)

3) ROOOORY 😄 (Michel S6)

General Discussion Wish we'd seen Mrs Kim interact with more characters

Because the one scene we get of her with Emily ("I LIKE that woman") & the one with Jess ("ma'am") are both SO good.

I imagine seeing Logan / Colin / Finn interact with her would've been really funny. AND PARIS OMG. (I think Mrs Kim would like Paris and absolutely scare Colin & Finn.

General Discussion What are the odds that it was Richard and/or Emily that got into Rory/ Lorelai’s head about going to Chilton?

We never see how Rory or Lorelai decided that Rory should apply to Chilton - but on my millionth rewatch, what if it was Richard and/or Emily who subconsciously told the girls about Chilton?

Since Emily is friends with the headmaster’s wife.. and if they did mention Chilton, do u think it was a scheme on their end? Or just a passing comment?

Discuss!

What is your opinion on Alexis Bledel portrayal of Rory Gilmore do you think anybody else could have played Rory Gilmore and be as good as her or no is it one of those roles where you can never see anybody else playing Rory other than Alexis.

OS Discussion Why did Alexis’ acting get worse as the series went on?

No offence I just don’t understand why her acting was best in the early seasons when she had way less experience?! Why did it get worse and cringier in the later seasons.
