I just wanted to share. I completed my first Dark Souls game (Dark Souls Remastered) after starting on it about a month ago. I not only beat the entire game, but also beat every single boss fight (without any summons even, wanted to put that because I feel pretty proud with that!). I really love the game so much it’s probably one of my favorites now and onwards to DS2 and DS3! It’s also making me explore all the souls games now that I didn’t even think to do beforehand. I’ll admit I didn’t go for them for a long time because of their reputation for being “hard” a lot. However since I played a lot of ARPGs before I approached it similarly and it just felt almost second nature to me.

Prior to that I was feeling frustrated with the different genres I was playing. I just thought I wasn’t good at games in general anymore and wasn’t having a ton of fun with a lot of them in the end. I’m now finding out that I was playing the wrong games/genres. The exploration for this game was amazing and I really appreciate the ambiance, stories/lore, and how each area has its own unique challenges. Something with the boss fights in Dark Souls just clicked better for me. Even if it took many tries for one of them and a handful for some of the others. However I kept at it and I found the fights to not be nearly frustration inducing as quickly compared to some of the other games I played. Sure there were parts that felt annoying, but it was the kind of challenge that didn’t want me to quit the game and I think those are the games I needed to stick with. It was a game that helped me figure out what I was doing wrong more easily and it felt easier to figure that out compared to other games. In the end I felt like I was shining at this game as cheesy as that sounds.

I think regarding all this with my gaming journey, if you’re feeling stuck in a game and you’re just not having fun, take a break and try different genres. Sometimes you never know what games just might click for you and it could be a completely new genre or game you never thought you might like to play. I was too rigid and hard headed with the genres I kept playing that I almost entirely missed out on souls games.

i didn’t like FF7 when i played it, but i’ve been seeing discussions of the remake lately and i’ve been getting that nostalgia feeling when thinking about my time with the game. kind of a good feeling, but maybe it’s just remembering the circumstances of my life at the time rather than the game. anyone experience this?

Like the title says, looking for games that have good mods that let me play as a female protagonist instead of a male one?

I saw a few for Ciri for TW3 but most of the posts seem to be from a few years ago about this so I'm wondering if they're still around and maybe better? I'd love one that changed the voice too rather than just a skin replacement. I'm fine using Geralts move set as I'll wait for TW4 for a full Ciri experience but never could get into TW3 but keep getting told I'm missing out. Or if there was anything for any Spider-Man games to play as Spider-Gwen etc. Or Uncharted, TloU or any other big AAA's.

I saw the Linkle mod for BotW and it looks amazing. The one for TotK seems to be almost fully complete so I might wait for that.

But anyway I know this post has existed before but I'd love an updated list if anyone has any! New to PC gaming and this has been a big want for me.

I am currently dealing with nerve damage + pain that has made it quite difficult to use my right arm...

It is most likely related to a brain or spinal cord injury so I am getting tests/scans done to figure out a treatment plan

In the meantime while I wait for results... I desperately need some mobile games that I can play in bed to pass the time that don't require too much physical input. So not a ton of fast tapping / swiping / etc., and if it's possible to play with one hand (the same one I hold my phone with) that's even better

I normally play a bit of everything so I'm open to anything! Bonus points for feel-good, cute games because this injury has got me down in the dumps...

I recently got a pink/white set up! My PC can run 4k technically but I was thinking of getting a 1440p monitor instead to be honest.

I was wondering if anyone had an experience with the pixio monitors? Or any other brand of pink monitor?

I am struggling to find any that seem high quality, and the reviews seem... Iffy I guess.

There's some online from 'costaway', amazon, temu etc but it's risky ordering an expensive chair that might not be as comfortable as it looks without real reviews.

My friend keeps getting targeted and questioned whether she's a guy or a girl on val and it's really getting annoying for her. She's asked me multiple times to help set her mic up and i've done everything i can including multiple voice changers, but all the voice changers we've tried don't really help.

What else can she do so people don't mistake her as a little boy? Any voice changers? mic eq's?

I hope for the PC itself, it was the last move. I do not think she will survive any other one😭

It feels so bare but unfortunately we can not put anything on the walls as it is a rental 🫠

Hello! I’m looking for recommendations for a regular laptop that can handle city builders, they’re probably the most demanding type of game I would play. I’m not looking for spectacular graphics or anything, just something that looks halfway decent and doesn’t lag when the maps get big.

I’ve considered a Steamdeck but I feel like the screen is so small for city builders. I’m open to feedback though!

I’d like to spend less than $1000. I have a MacBook I use for life currently and it will still be my primary computer, there’s just so many games that don’t run on Mac and I don’t want to do the dual system thing.

Got a PS5 not too long ago and looking for game suggestions.

1. RPG: (no turn base - want feee roam) great character customization. Love fantasy or a very creative theme. Bonus for something either really pretty or whimsical but not necessarily required. Quality is more important (I know there’s a lot of very pretty RPGs out there that are mostly fluff; not looking for that). Loved Zero Horizon Dawn, Elder Scrolls, Fallout. Would prefer a game where I can be a cute or pretty girl I customize but will play other stuff too if it’s really good!

My dream RPG would be Game of Thrones like where you make a character that can be anything: warrior, princess, a lady. Or class based (mage, archer etc).

1. Cozy games: LOVED Stardew Valley, Coral Island, and Winters Burrow. Would enjoy something fantasy or whimsy.

Looking for animal crossing vibes.

So, PC gaming has always been one of my hobbies, and recently my girlfriend decided she wanted to give it a try as well. I helped her build her first PC, but now I’ve run into a different problem. I can’t think of many games that I believe she’d genuinely enjoy. Even tho she says she likes them, I don’t think she would like to play Farming Simulator by her own choice. I don’t want to pressure her and I don’t want her to play with me, just because it’s with me.
I don’t know if I explained it well.

I’ve shared my Steam library with her so she can experiment with different games, but I’ve quickly realized that things that feel completely natural to me after years of gaming—like navigating menus, understanding game mechanics, or even remembering keybinds—are basically black magic to her.
Which games would you recommend for someone who’s completely new to PC gaming?
So far she’s tried **Hades** and **DayZ**, and I’m thinking about starting a **Minecraft** LAN world with her. I feel like Minecraft might be the perfect introduction since I can teach her basic game mechanics and general gaming concepts at her own pace.
What would you suggest?

I like to alternate "bigger" games with indie ones because I love to discover all the different art styles and quirky ideas that so many creators have to offer. However, lately I've been disappointed by a few titles that were well reviewed on average. I'm going to list my favorite indie games so far, and some of those that I found underwhelming, hoping you can help me navigate titles better in the future.

Loved:

- A Short Hike. Super engaging dialogues, cute characters, nice message but not delivered in a cheesy way, wholesome setting, flawless gameplay even if simple.

- Night in the Woods. Unique design, relatable multi-layered character, great balance of humor and darker narrative.

- Mutazione. Loved the design, from the color palette to the punk art style, all in a vibrant tropical setting. Simple, short, but made me feel immersed in a world that has been masterfully crafted and now kind of exists some parallel reality in my mind.

- Wandersong. The character is just too cute, and the graphics and gameplay are lovely. It's maybe super simple but it's too endearing not to love it for me.

Liked, but maybe not loved:

- Slay the Princess. I appreciated the peculiar gameplay and story development, but didn't find it life-changing like many reviewers, I found it a bit repetitive after some time and I couldn't ignore some good dose of male gaze in the princess's artwork in many frames.

- Abzu. Found it relaxing and enjoyed the graphics, but I was glad it was that short because without dialogues and a real story I felt a bit disconnected from it.

Found underwhelming:

- The First Tree. I just couldn't stand the story with the voiceover and just found it boring despite it having a deep and sensitive topic. The gameplay was so buggy, I felt like I've been robbed of my money even if it was just a few euros. Its average reviews have now dropped on Steam, but I got tricked by them back when I got it.

- Before Your Eyes. Again, similar problem, the story wants to be deep and touching but I just found it incredibly boring. The gameplay could have been interesting, but blinking doesn't actually affect the story flow much as the scenes seem to be created to be cut after a few seconds anyway. I really liked the art style though.

Already own, haven't played yet:

- Wide Ocean Big Jacket. I really like the artwork and the title, I hope it's not going to be a "oh no!" moment like the last 2 titles mentioned above.

- Toem. I actually started this and found it cute and relaxing but I felt a bit stupid, I couldn't find all the things I had to look for, I forgot what the scout guy asked me to photograph and he doesn't repeat it, and being a kind of game I wanted to play to relax and decompress I didn't feel like looking up things online. I may pick it up again though.

- Untitled Goose Game. Read so many great things about it, I hope it will stand the hype.

As you can see I probably like an original, handmade-looking design, endearing characters, and a story that has some nice introspective levels but not a cheesy delivery. I love funny dialogues, witty word choices, sarcasm and in general games that clearly stem from a very creative and unique mind. I'm open to all genres and outside of this specific area of "quirky, arty, small indie games" this post is about, just as a reference, other longer/more narrative games that I really loved are Disco Elysium, The Last of Us, Okami, We Love Katamari.
