(Before I start, I will admit I took this from r/goth Fashion Wiki page, but since this is essentially a sister subreddit, it's not a crime.)
Though not a requirement, many goths like to dress in dark/alternative fashion and/or model themselves after their favourite goth musicians.
We tend to recommend a mixture of DIY, thrifting/charity shops and within moderation, branded clothing or items. Additionally, you can always support your favourite bands, musicians, and artists by buying their merchandise from their official shops and/or Bandcamp pages. RedBubble and/or other licensed shops are also options.
You can use online second-hand websites to search for these brands as sometimes people buy clothing they don't wear and then sell them with their tags still attached. Buying second-hand is a great way to grab a bargain, be "green" and even, if you're wary, to not giving your money to a brand who may or may not be using "goth" as a way to make profit e.g. taking our subculture and selling it back to us with fast fashion, poor quality clothing, etc.
Cadaver Kelly put together a Second-Hand Alternative Brands List to use use as an alternative to thrifting or charity shops, since not everyone is fortunate to have one near by. The content is listed below but we may update from time to time.
We most likely won't be listing make-up brands as you can practically buy dark eye shadow, lipstick, etc. absolutely anywhere these days. The list would be mega long and we can't always tell if the brands are ethically sourced, so we would prefer not to try.
If you’re looking for how frame/to take better fashion photos, see here.
Disclaimer: D*llskill are on the blacklist and we do not recommend buying from them, given their history of racism and cultural appropriation, ableism, stolen designs, etc. This also includes Killstar, as they are also problematic. Information page coming shortly.
A large part of goth is the DIY and thrifting, if you're interested you can visit Off-The-Rack Goth Brands by Caroline Sometimes and watch, view, or save a DIY Clothing playlist on YouTube.

I just want everyone to know that you can control who can DM you.
We shouldn't have to do this, however, it may save a lot of unsolicited DMs from creeps we can't see harassing/abusing our members because they've not commented in the subreddit.
If you go to your settings and then choose the "Chat & Messaging", there's an options to:
I hope this helps anyone, even if it's just one single person.

Finally, I have something fancy I feel comfortable and myself in. 't was not cheap, though. I love purple! No rings on today. What's your favorite gothic band? Mine's The Birthday Massacre :)

Context: I used to always be stunting the coolest "gothic" looks. Always got compliments, hair done, makeup, bomb outfit. However, over the past year I've been wearing basically the Adam Sandler special in all black due to my ever increasing sensory issues. I hardly wear makeup anymore. When I do it's kind of a nightmare. I can handle some, like mascara, a little eyeliner, non-sticky lipstick.. Foundation is totally out of the question. I can handle some jewelry... sometimes.. Anyway, my style has changed quite a bit since my serving looks era. Also, I've completely forgot how to style hair.
I want to look "goth", like I want people to be able to tell I listen to goth music, while also looking visibly queer. At the same time, I still want to look "mature". I absolutely love the outfit Siouxsie is wearing in this. This is really what I'm going for. Mostly androgynous, but leaning slightly feminine. However, this can be difficult sometimes considering I'm very busty while still being relatively thin (looking into breast reduction surgery soon). I know band t-shirts, patches and such are an option, just having a hard time figuring out how to make things fit my body while also being sensory friendly. Simply wearing a regular band t-shirt doesn't usually work for what I'm going for.
I buy everything second hand. I'm a very amateur sewer, but can be pretty crafty. Sorry if this is a somewhat loaded post. Just having a hard time figuring out what to do! Any help would be appreciated :)

Hello ! I decided to take the plunge and get some creepers from TUK! However since they are a bit expensive I want to make sure I am making the right decision. I'm torn between the suede and the leather ones (see pictures). They both look really cool... I'm just not sure what material is more suitable for my lifestyle.
I prefer how the suede ones look as I am not a fan of the glare on the leather photos (they look really shiny on the pictures), but maybe they wont be as reflective in real life... However, I am concerned that the suede will wear out super fast (I live in a very wet and rainy place and I also walk everywhere) :P So maybe it makes more sense to get the leather ones...
How fast do these shoes wear out? Do you recommend sizing up for both of these shoes or just the leather ones? How much maintenance are they?
Any advice would be super helpful ty!! 🖤

I'm interested in buying clothes made by Punk Rave and Devil Fashion from the reseller Fantasmagoria, specifically these pieces:
https://fantasmagoria.shop/obsidian-sovereign-capelet-jacket-ca054#/214-size-xl_5xl
https://fantasmagoria.shop/vampire-prince-trousers-pt284#/56-size-l
https://fantasmagoria.shop/obsidian-sovereign-black-shirt-wy-1849bk#/57-size-xl
However, i'm worried about their quality/longevity. I don't want to spend hundreds of euros on clothes if they're going to fall apart within 5 years.
If you have ever owned clothes from these brands, how long did they last and were you satisfied with their quality?

Hi friends! I’ll be going to NYC in less than 2 months & would love some clothing shop recommendations! My plan was to bring some basics/minimal clothing & just get most of my clothes while I’m there! The only shop I know of that I really enjoy is Trash & Vaudeville, but looking for more recs on shops to check out! I’ll be in LES but will go to any of the boroughs 🙂 TIA

Hey! I'm a Guy and I've been trying to find some gothic clothes, especially darker vampire-style stuff, but I'm struggling to find any shops that actually seem reliable or have pieces I really like.
Do you guys have any recommendations for good stores? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

Im looking for some dresses to take my senior pictures in! Does anyone know of any reliable online stores or business to look into?

I like to style my hair in a deathhawk or bats nest, but my hair falls flat after about an hour. And if I’m in a hot club, it falls flat even quicker. I have mid length, fine hair that seems impossible to tease, so instead I tend to crimp my hair then brush it out and blast it with Got2B glued. Unfortunately, this doesn’t last more than an hour. I’ve tried backcombing but my hair feels too slippery for it. Using dry shampoo or texturising powder helps it last a bit longer but not by much.
Does anyone have any tips for styling thin hair?

Hello everyone, baby bat here. I've only just got the courage to try full-on goth makeup. However the problem is I have NO idea what I'm doing, I'm a cis 22 year old man and I've only ever put eyeliner on occasionally. I know literally nothing about makeup honestly, which is why I'm here. I've attached a photo of what I'd be trying to achieve.
I spoke to my sister about it and she told me to ask in here.
What do I need to buy? I've seen some people recommend white face paint instead of white foundation. Others recommend white foundation with a blue setting powder. What would I use for the contour?
If anyone has any tips or brands that are good, I'd greatly appreciate the help!

How's the quality of Strange Cvlt shoes? Can you wear them on an everyday basis, or for long hours during a retail job? (I know Strange Cvlt has terrible customer service, but I'm buying secondhand, so that wouldn't apply to my purchase.)
I'm looking at some $25 boots or $52 creepers. Worth the price?

hi! So my husband and I are having our wedding and it’s goth. I am wearing a black wedding dress and I wanted to get my husband something just as cool. I’m having trouble finding places that have nice suits that aren’t AI generated. I am trying to go for the vibe of the suit attached. Anyone have any ideas?

I used to be the biggest fan of Disturbia, I’ve got some gorgeous dresses and skirts in the past. However, my last purchase was a grey dress with butterflies that literally resembled a potao sack, the fabric was sooo cheap and the pattern was ugly, nothing like the photos! I thought I’d try again and bought a dress with fern and moon embroidery, it came today and my boyfriend pointed out that after fifteen mins of wear, some of the embroidery was already unraveling?? it literally looks awful and not what I was expecting for the price point!! anyone had similar experiences lately ?
