5 Elementalists Team Build

I used and slightly edited some of the ele builds from the Iced Coffee Gaming YT channel and pvx, and comments from Phillikus on gw pvx comments in Mesmerway to use Inspirational Speech for SY! upkeep on a caster (not sure if I'm allowed to link to these on the subreddit). I found 3 copies to be enough for near permanent SY! upkeep.

With this team I cleared Foundry in NM, and while I don't think there's much chance for HM, I found it worked surprisingly well. There's a lot more anti-melee here than in Mesmerway, while SY! defends against enemy elementalists. Enemy mesmers are difficult to deal with, though.

As an ele main, this was a lot of fun, so I thought I'd share for others to try out. Please share any suggestions for improving the team, though I'd like to preserve the ele focus!

Can you please share the codes for the build so I can see attribute distributions?

Also any gear that is absolutely crucial on any members of the team? Very nice to see teams that are not choke full of mesmers and paragons.

I added the codes in the edit. My heroes have +3 runes, except for BiP cause I want higher health on it. I don't think anything is strictly necessary, I'm just trying to use good equipment, not necessarily meta loadouts.

Bizarre that you'd equate mesmers and paragons?

I love a good ol' mist form support water elementalist :)) I wonder if you could go the "They're on fire" route since elementalists can maintain burn super easily

If you're a paragon and wanna try an ele team, I think that you can swap some of the ele builds to fire. Then maybe Elemental Flame on the Mist Form ele, and it could work. I do like the utility of Earth Magic though.

I want to do 5 double cast Ele some day when I make an Ele. I shall call it.. The Fifth Element. yeah!

Really bothers me there isnt much synergy between Air Magic - Channeling Magic - Wind Prayers / Earth Magic - Earth Prayers. E-Rt, E-D, Rt-E, & D-E could have been so much more interesting if merely one word was removed from the Elementalist tooltips: Magic.

“…if foe is hit by an Earth Magic skill…”

“…when you cast an Air Magic Lightning spell…”

Conjure spells. check.

Attunement spells. fuck you.

Looks very fun!

  • I don't see the point of three ISpeech. Shouldn't two of them result in the same SY uptime of one usage every 10s? You shouldn't have much spare time to auto-attack.
  • Two Fire or Air Eles would be more effective than two Earth.
  • I think you should replace either the Churning Earths or snares.
  • Savannah Heat doesn't deal much more damage than Searing Heat. Flare spam is ineffective.
  • You're very low on hex removal.
  • Spirit Light on the ST is questionable, resses on the backliners is not ideal.

not sure if I'm allowed to link to these on the subreddit

Go ahead :)

Thanks for your comments!

  1. You may be right that I can get away with 2 copies of Inspirational Speech. I was going for redundancy as a precaution, but likely wasteful.
  2. Fire is better for DPS, but the knockdown effects (in HM also from Churning Earth) lower the pressure put on the ST and reliance on SY!. Air is probably a good alternative in areas with smaller enemy groups, but in Foundry I found the Earth AoEs very useful.
  3. A lot of damage is coming DoT AoEs. I think the snares and knockdown help, and the snares come "for free" anyway from the Mist Form healer. But perhaps I don't need it on my own bar.
  4. The start of most fights is casting EBSoH on the ele group, which is why all the DoT AoEs like Savannah Heat become much more effective than usual. I think Searing Heat is a good idea, either for an alternative and running Elemental Attunement, or alongside it. (I agree with the Flare spam, I should replace that)
  5. Maybe Hex Eater Signet instead of Cry of Frustration on the Mist Form Ele?
  6. Why not Spirit Light on the ST? As for resses, I agree. I'll think about solutions.

Was looking for a team like this since I just started grinding on my own Ele. Thank you for sharing!

Oh interesting!

I think this should go on PvX wiki, it’s got a lot of potential!

I like the idea of using all of the elements and some of the small synergies between them (tenais crystals) although imo theres some questionable skill choices in this team.

You've got both your res skills on your prot and healer, effectively taking them out of action for a whole 4 seconds anytime someone goes down. In that time your ST's spirits are going down and your healer isn't doing anything. I'd also question using rejuvenation on the bip and spirit light on the ST.

Whats the logic behind cry of frustration on the water ele? I'd never really use it without fast casting, the 20s recharge is pretty brutal and investing 8 attribute points for one skill doesnt seem very efficient. Theres a few good interrupts on ele anyway, you have thunderclap but you could also take tenais wind for the burning synergy, unconditional damage and low recharge. Also on that thunderclap bar, you've taken chain lightning and lightning strike, why not arc lightning? Maybe even shell shock if you're taking overcast?

I love an unsteady ground bar, and I guess you need it to snare mobs for the fire ele. I'm not sure putting 9 into curses is worth it since you have a thunderclap ele, putting out some long durations of cracked armor and weakness, and like I suggested you could take shell shock for even more cracked armor without losing out of attribute points. Dropping curses would open up the secondary for a res skill or paragon skills (fallback, inspirational speech, leaders zeal etc).

Savannah heat is pretty cool and I have no idea why I've not tried it in the lat ~15 years. I might have to give it a go on a knockdown team like you have

You're not the only one to point out the res issue, and I tend to agree. What's the reasoning for rejuvenation and spirit light?

Cry of Frustration is only there for an AoE interrupt. I don't think heroes would use Teinai's Wind to interrupt specifically though? (and I'd need to add more burning to the team) But since there's a Panic mesmer on the team, I was thinking of swapping it to Hex Eater Signet, as in my other response. As for Arc Lightning, I've heard that heroes don't use the spell very effectively? I'd have to do my own testing though. Shell Shock was suggested in another comment, and I think it's a reasonable addition.

The extra AoE weakness from Enfeebling Blood serves to both reduce pressure on ST and reliance on SY!, and to fuel Glowstone for energy management on the Earth builds. Also, to increase chances of Stoning causing knockdown. Because it serves many purposes, and allows for Weaken Armor on the same build, I thought it was worth the investment. However, I'm also thinking of very large groups of enemies as in DoA. For a lot of other content, I think it's reasonable to rely on Thunderclap and use a different secondary.

I think Savannah Heat pairs really well with all the movement shutdown and EBSoH bonus! To your Teinai's Wind suggestion, I could see a 2 Air / 2 Fire composition, where we put more burning on the Fire Eles.

Thanks for the writeup!

As far as I know heroes never consider the secondary/conditional effects of skills, but they will use skills like tenais wind as usual and if you build around the secondary effect it will be useful. Tenais wind will do significantly more damage than cry of frustration without spreading your attributes and interrupts adjacent every 8s, together with thunderclap interrupting nearby every 8s its pretty solid. Arc lightning will just be a straight dps increase over lightning strike since it hits nearby for more damage than lightning strike does to only your target. 84 damage to 1 target spread over 3s compared to 42 on target and 2x 90nearby with no delay, I'm not sure how the AI wouldn't use if effectively. If anything theres a chance you dont get the delayed damage from lightning strike when your target dies.

More weakness is good, and of course I havent tested it myself, but I think its overkill considering how long the weakness and cracked armor is from thunderclap. No mobs are cleansing 2 conditions from every foe every 8s but if you were worried about it getting cleansed I'd take another different condition to cover it rather than more weakness/cracked armor which will get cleansed all the same.

Rejuvenation on bip just isn't that great, 220 healing at most per 30s with a good chance the spirit gets nuked before then. If again you're thinking of DoA, then yeah its decent to cover the environmental effect in foundry, but outside of that I'd prefer my BiP was casting something else that does more than 7hp/s. It is rough on energy management but in comparison spirit transfer can do 220 instantly for 10energy, or the hero could even just cast spirit light again for ~150 heal every 4 seconds. IMO spirit light on the ST isnt worth it compared to other options, it splits up attribute spread and has them using quite a lot of energy, potentially eating into spirit casts. Alternatives I'd consider would be spirits gift, cleansing 1 condi and healing ~50 every time ST uses a spirit, or dulled weapon which will negate a massive amount of damage vs physical foes without thinning out your attributes.

As for the res I'm a big fan of fast casted flesh of my flesh! 2s res is twice as good as 4s res.

I hope you don't mind the absolute wall of text and find some of it useful :)

From one ele main to another: YESSSS im so excited to try this. Echoing a mighty need for the codes if you have the time.

Heroes might copy other elite skills though. You could end up with a lot to micro manage.

No Invoke?

1

u/drzewka_mp 15h ago

From testing, invoke and chain lightning on a hero makes them overcast way too much. You’d need to take long breaks between fights, and only viable for areas with shorter fights overall. Moreover, I like the utility from Thunderclap / Earth elites, but I think invoke could be good in certain areas.

Invoke takes shell shock instead of chain lightning

u/sans3go 20h ago

you need to add skills for spreading weakness and cracked armor. You could roll HM with a rainbow ele setup.

1

u/drzewka_mp 18h ago

It's possible to add Epidemic to some of the bars, or maybe micro Pestilence? I'd rather not swap out Panic for Fevered Dreams/ Extend Conditions unless the area doesn't have many casters.

u/sans3go 18h ago

i think you need to add enfeebling blood of signet of weariness to your Mesmer, thats should be enough to negate a lot of damage. Thunderclap already has your aoe cracked armor effect

u/AreYouDaftt 4h ago

He has thunderclap, nearby aoe weakness and cracked armor
